As I said, could be a hit or miss with Marina so who knows. Hoping for the best, but I would like Peter, Buttle or David Wilson for her.

Thanks for your thorough answer, Alba. The links help a lot. I watched the Clair de Lune. Really elegant, musical style. I'll check the others out tomorrow, it's too late now. Based on Clair de Lune, Marina and Peter would give Yulia a clear choice of where she wants to go artistically. I see Peter is in Russia, that has to be an advantage. I'll get back to this first thing tomorrow.

Yes he is, but he's also Adelina's choreographer, Buyanova team, so I don't know....:scratch:
By the way, I forgot, he did Adelina's and Kovtun programs as well.

I actually like the idea of Zueva beeing Julia's choreographer. It's true that some of Zueva's choreography doesn't seem to be inspired, but I guess that happens when she's not inspired by the pair/skater. We all know that she can make great choreos. And I guess she would be inspired by Julia. :yes:
But I don't get all the criticism towards Averbuch as a choreographer, last season was difficult because of a couple of reasons and I rather liked Megapolis despite all that.
And yes, working with different choreographers can only by beneficial for her.

Alba, I can easily see why you hope for Peter. The Clair de Lune and Danube are spectacular.
I don't know enough about anyone to be aware of potential pitfalls, but here is my reaction to Marina.
A few weeks ago I was trying to figure out what is left for Yulia's choreographer to do, given that Yulia and Eteri do nearly all of the musical interpretation. After some patient effort Alba helped me understand that Yulia's choreographer provides concept (not just places jumps and spins within the program). Her choreographer shapes the program with a broad brush and in harmony with what Yulia wants to tell us. Yesterday I came across the Gordeeva-Mahler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X9wP8-D63o when googling to learn what is so special about some older lady that would warrant a trip from Moscow to Canton, Michigan (I'm familiar with none of these important people). The performance had Yulia written all over it. The broad brush that shapes with symbols: an extended arm (yearning-reunion), rapid circles (confusion-crisis), stopping and looking (loss-abandonment), plus great emphasis on dramatic-expressive content. Note the similarities to SL. Then there are beautiful details, such as slowly coming out of the first spin, here her physical rubato traces the music's rubato and conveys tenderness.
As Sam said with characteristic understatement and a smile, Yulia is a bit of a romantic. For sure, Sam, a full-blown, heart-on-the-sleeve romantic. Artists can sense a kindred spirit a mile away, even 6000 miles away. Sam's picture "getting serious" is a good sign. Yulia will know if it is right.

Mutual inspiration is so important, especially with Yulia. No better example than Eteri-Yulia.
Zoueva was also the coach of last two Olympic champions in ice dancing - Virtue/Moir and Davis/White, although even more credit for their technical development surely belongs to Igor Shpilband who worked in tandem with her until the 2013/2014 season (not including). She was also their main choreographer, although they got help from others for some of their best and/or most acclaimed programs, and Zoueva's own choreography for them has been criticized a lot.

Now, wait a minute. Are you saying that she wasn't inspired enough by V&M and D&W? She had the two best ID couples in the world. Saying that, I like Gracie's SP that she did with Grieg's Piano concerto. It wasn't a masterpiece but it was good. I liked Ilya's program for her a lot, but I didn't liked his mouth.

No, I think she was inspired bei V&M and D&W! But more by D&W in the later years. S&K didn't inspire her much last season ... and from what I've seen I think she choreographed the best programs that Gracie ever had.Now, wait a minute. I like the fact that Averbuch speaks his mind and well, I loved him as a ice dancer and I like him now as a choreographer. And he doesn't seem to be offended by the fact that Julia seeks out (a) new choreographer(s) this season, he seems to be supporting of her decisions.

For me D&W were a miss for her, except for those 3 programs I mentioned. Beatles were not bad either tbh, but they were still young during that time. Boring and generic programs, and watching Meryl in DWTS it a pity because the girl can dance really well.
Not me. Not in public, to the press, about "your" skater. Your observation and criticism you reserve when you work with them. That's pro, for me. But we've discussed this issue a lot already.
I'm glad both sides look happy now, so that's okay. Anyway, while I'm not so thrilled (yet) about Zueva's choreographing her programs, I am glad she is working with Yulia because she could help her improve a lot with the phrasing of the music and body awareness.

If the dance programs were all I had to compare Peter and Marina, I would vote for Peter. It is odd that Marina's V&M Mahler leaves me unmoved, whereas Gordeeva's shatters with raw emotion, both with the same music. Gordeeva's Mahler fits Yulia's approach for reasons I stated in an earlier post. I remind myself that Yulia's connection with her fans, whatever their experience with skating, is emotional. It's no coincidence Yulia's goal is to express her feelings. Marina has shown that she can work on Yulia's expressive level. We will soon find out if Yulia and Eteri think she can do it with them. I understand that, and it's not that odd. Gordeeva's program and performance was done as a tribute to her dead husband, a year after his death. Her movements, the whole structure, express her imagining dancing/skating with him. You can hardly beat that, and it's not to be taken as an example because it's very personal and unique.
