Yulia Lipnitskaya

"What plays an important role for us is the character; we have offered cooperation to Yulia, seeing how she copes with difficulties,"

"We are impressed with diligence of the girl and her passion for sports. She's a really strong-willed athlete and concentrated on the result,” said Petrosyan. “We are convinced that Yulia Lipnitskaya is able to inspire people with her talent and charisma – many young people will want to learn from her desire to improve.”

I understand that, and it's not that odd. Gordeeva's program and performance was done as a tribute to her dead husband, a year after his death. Her movements, the whole structure, express her imagining dancing/skating with him. You can hardly beat that, and it's not to be taken as an example because it's very personal and unique.

Doesn't that sound like Yulia? Like SL and Megapolis? To paraphrase your words, structure through organized movement communicates a message that is very personal and unique. A personal and unique message is what Yulia says she wants to tell us. In Gordeeva's Mahler, Marina uses just three symbols (extended arm, rapid circles, stopping and looking) to create the entire structure. That's it, just three basic movements, each chosen to maximize emotion. It is sophisticated and expressive, like Beethoven creating 10 minutes of music out of just 4 notes. Yulia used two of those symbols (extended arm and stopping-looking) in SL, and the extended arm-kite symbol throughout Megapolis. She is on the Gordeeva path, but those symbols weren't so thoroughly integrated and developed as with Gordeeva's program.

My guess is that Eteri and Yulia have turned to Marina in hopes of reaching a Gordeeva level of personal and unique expression. Yulia has already shown us that she is capable of taking Gordeeva's performance as an example, that's why SL and Megapolis both touched so many people of all backgrounds. Yulia, Eteri and Marina all understand the power of structure based on a few emotional symbols. Marina and Yulia need each other. They could inspire each other, as psusanne suggests. You can hardly beat that!

I meant personal and unique to Gordeeva. That whole performance, the idea and choreography is about her skating with Sergei. It's a life experience. It has nothing to do with anybody else. My point was that it's not odd that you were moved by that program/performance mor than with V&M Mahler. :) Same music but two different concept, completely.

Many month later, this newspaper got the news.

According to Sotnikova's manager, Ari Zakarian, the deal shows her current position in the sports industry: "The Americans only work with real stars, it is a totally different weight class."

Poor Messi. Somebody tell him that he should sign for Nike in order to be a "real star", a "totally different weight class". :laugh2:

it sounds promising and exciting! i think she is one of rare skaters that actually feel their music, i am excited to see her next season, leave this season behind and watch her grow :cheer:

so the new MISTER X we talked about for weeks actually was... a MRS X, Marina Zueva!

She did the choreo for both short and free, plus the exhibition. She said the programs are all different from each other which is interesting because, from my point of view, Zueva has done many "classical" programs.
So what do you think she has done with Yulia?

I think the short is the easiest to do in a more original, unusual way. The free maybe will be the classical one... the exhibition.. well.. it can be something more pop, more "american style ex", even if I don't see Zueva doing something this way

I went back to check thru my YouTube channel and saw my "Julia 5000" video had 399 hits so of course I clicked it. Haven't watched it in a while but it's funny to see how OCD I was with the editing. I really went OTT trying to make everything fit the music. Yulia is so expressive with her motions that reworking her movements into new musical interpretations is very easy to do.

I mention this as more than just a shameless plug for my video but more so to point out what a joy it must be for a choreographer to work with her. I'm sure each vision is not only realized but given a signature movement that only Yulia can offer. What a connection that must be. ,,

If she ever chooses a foreign Choreographer I hope it's Rohene Ward. I think he would find that connection that I'm trying to express could exist.

They are the best coffee chain in Michigan, for sure. You ever try the Red Bull Crème Freeze? It sounds like a disgusting mix at first, but it's pretty awesome.

Some choreographer prefers other Julia's compatriot over her. :sarcasm:
