Yulia Lipnitskaya

witcher, I won't go after Ilya again, I already upset enough people. In fact, I deleted my Ilya posts that offended others, I'm not here to be divisive.

So about Marina: the following is an excerpt from the most complete interview I've seen from Marina. Notice especially Marina's emphasis on "her" when talking about working with Yulia (as opposed to Ilya's "my"). Marina says that she feels a special responsibility with Yulia. In addition, there is no last-minute desperation over programs. Yulia has chosen two, and Marina offered another that was accepted(!). All these things represent desirable levels of collaboration, compatibility and respect that was absent last year. She wants to collaborate with Yulia "in the creative process." Marina welcomes Yulia and her method.
If I remember correctly, Michaelangelo was constantly fighting with Julius II over his vision of Sistine Chapel: he cursed pope, threw him out of the chapel, quarreled over his salary, threatened with strike or even abandoning the project. It was a long, enormous, stressful struggle between two ambitious men that provided masterpiece result: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/46/Sistine_chapel.jpg

So who is this girl that has been hanging around so much lately? Seems like they've been having fun playing in the shadows and of course if you are blessed enough to spend some time with Julia you are going to wind up playing with puppies.

PUPPIES

Sidebar.....Am I the only one diggin all of the Polina Shelepen photos that keep surfacing. I wonder if now that she is back in Russia coaching if they've been reconnecting.

Good example. You're right, conflict can take creativity to greater heights. For example, nobody got the last word with Beethoven, he just got tougher. With some personalities it can go the other way, for example with Bruckner who struggled endlessly to please his critics. For a few, such as Rachmaninoff, it can lead to long periods of zero production and depression. Tension is okay if it doesn't get in the way, and sometimes it inspires. These situations reveal a lot about the people involved.

The way things should always be.

I can only imagine the thoughts going thru her head. Inspite of the fear and uncertainty of it all she managers to look so calm and at peace. It's very inspiring for me.

Sam, I finally found where she talks about how important it is not to think during performances. Watch the first 30 seconds of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHNqlIyACbU . Her statement corresponds to Peg's post about "imagery" techniques used in sports psychology, establishing neural pathways. If she couldn't go into autopilot, then her performance would be impaired. Maybe this was part of her problem last year with R&J.

It's so touching to hear her words.

"When you come out, the body remembers and makes by itself. So it's a very series obstacle when there is extra thoughts. It's very important to know when to turn the thoughts off." -a bit paraphrased but it's the idea.

She turns very serious when describing the pain of Sochi. When the video shows Plushy leave in pain she says it's not the physical pain...which can withstand....it's the Moral problem...the heartache.

With Megapolis she was able to turn her mind off, she did well. Megaolis was a part of her, she could be automatic. R&J was too much in flux, always changing, she couldn't turn her mind off during performances. Also important, she had no problems in practices with R&J. In practices she would keep her mind on.

For anyone interested in the possible connection between Yulia's R&J challenges and the reliance on autopilot when performing, below is a copy of a paragraph that summarizes the idea behind imagery and the importance of creating neural pathways. I give credit and thanks to Peg for opening my eyes to this important practice several months ago. Imagery can be thought of as a mental exercise to develop neural pathways, among other benefits.

Repetition creates neural pattern in the brain
Repeating physical activities develops an automatic neural pattern in the brain that is a road map created by the conscious decisions required to perform the actual physical skills of the movements. Alexander Bain, (1818–1903) of Great Britain, was the first scientist to develop a theory that the brains neural pattern is the same as diagramming the specific wiring and circuits necessary to transmit an electrical current. It is this process that the brain uses to construct such neural patterns to direct and control repeated physical movement.

That is a really interesting read. Thank you so much for sharing ;) So I guess we'll see a playful SP this season. Hmm..
Sounds like it was a great experience for her and Yulia. I have to wonder if they'll return again next season considering the creative balance they seem to have achieved. I also wonder how it is that Yulia got 3 programs and Adian only one. Was she using her own money to fund it?

Google translate:
What was your first impression of Julia Lipnitskaya?
- The first impression for some reason immediately was: this girl when the time comes, shoot armor-piercing. Julia, of course, flint, but somewhere deep inside her delicate snowdrop grows. From an early age she is eating the ice and goes forward. She has a steel character and desire to achieve heights. And also - crazy data, determination and a coach who was able to combine all of this.

- What, in your opinion, are suitable Lipnitskaya most?
- Tragic and warlike. I always try to learn and understand the inner world of the skater before you choose for him a way.
