Yulia Lipnitskaya

Meoima, Please read the following excerpt from the Vaytsekhovskaya (EV) interview with Ilya (IA):
EV: How badly do you have to adjust yourself to a skater you are working with?
IA: The most interesting work was with Elena Radionova. She feels the music so well and sometimes would add some great gestures which integrated perfectly into the programme. It's much harder when the skaters says `I need my arms to go this way, my head that way and am going to skate this direction'. There is no room left for creativity, as you can imagine. A lot depends on the coach as well. For example working with Lipnitskaya it wasn't her I was choreographing for, but Tutberidze, so she would understand what I mean to do, so she would like it. Just that the skater is not always willing to take orders, just like Julia. But what can you do?
With these words Ilya tells us he had no use for Yulia's upper-body work. He says he found Yulia's upper body work to be anti-creative. For him Yulia was a head-strong girl who would not take orders, who would insist, "I need my arms to go this way, my head that way and am going to skate this direction." He prefers Radionova, who added touches here and there, a few embellishments to enhance his program. Eventually he gave up on Yula so he choreographed for Eteri, hoping Eteri would intercede (which didn't happen). Essentially, he confesses that he could not work with Yulia because he did not respect her efforts regarding upper body movement, and she would not let go of her method in favor of his. It's that two artists problem, where they get nowhere when attempting to work together. Remember also, Eteri said upper body movement is Yulia's creation, it is very special to her. She will take suggestions, but she decides. Upper body movement is the heart of Yulia's method of self-expression, it is a major reason why she skates. It is the only reason I watch her. Almost nothing of what I have been talking about came from Ilya.
This means that Yulia is not only a performer, but also co-productions. She is an artist, and this is another dimension compared to conventional figure skater.

This is how I see it also, collaboration/co-production are mandatory when working with Yulia. It can't be easy, yet Eteri has done it for years. Ilya would have been fine if he and Yulia had the same method. Marina sees opportunity in the same areas where Ilya experienced conflict. I have much confidence in success with Marina, based on this interview (http://www.sovsport.ru/gazeta/article-item/808787 where you can read the complete interview in English and in Russian):

- You explain what is expected of you as a director of, or you were given complete freedom of action and expression?

- Julia herself very actively involved in the creative process. She is good! And the music and movement ... She is very talented and thoughtful people. She was only sixteen years old, but she perceives mature serious music, very wise approach to setting, the choice of music is very thin feels the musical material, sense of style and can work in all styles! She led me to the United States just a week, and during that time we have put the program in three different styles, and it is primarily the merit of Julia - that we were able to do such work. He played the role of her talent, her motor abilities, her desire to express himself.

Meoima, Please read the following excerpt from the Vaytsekhovskaya (EV) interview with Ilya (IA):
I don't get the point of people give Ilya less credit just because he isn't that of a good personality.
The program was done by him. All choreographer give skaters some choices and they integrate their ideas with the skaters' ideas. It's the same for every skater. Without choreographers, skaters have nothing to begin with or else they will have to create the program by themselves or let their coach do it.

That looks like an Ohio State sweatshirt :bang: Come on Julia....Michigan is blue and yellow with a big "M" on the hoodie.

*For those of you that don't know....Ohio and Michigan are neighboring states and have a bitter college rivalry*

Yulia so underrated, it's best flow in figure skating history, minimum basic steps, maximum technical steps, body/arms movement, gorgeous shapes and incredible music timing.

Yulia does so many things so well, from skating to life choices. So much that I can't get my mind around her. We are fortunate to have this forum, a place to exchange insights and perspectives, to try to do justice to the breadth and depth of Yulia's achievements.

I can't take it anymore!

I can't wait till October! I won't make it, I will go mad or even worse.
You know what I did lately? Looked up Julia's skates in Brazil and I found both Oly programs online in Portuguese!
Seriously, if I watch SL program once again, I'll lose my sight in alergic reaction! :laugh2:

Stupid figure skating with its half-year long season break, I hate it! :scowl:

Let's make some puzzle, quiz or competition here to relieve Lipni-withdrawal symptoms.
