Yulia Lipnitskaya

Thanks god there is at least one person in this forum, who saw what I saw...
I started thinking there's sth wrong with my eyes... :rolleye:

No imo your eyes are great ;) (eventhough things like these always depend on perception)
I always go a bit "arrrgh" when I see Yulia skate like at Finlandia or other competitions last season because you know she's better than that. I've always got that sentence in my head that my coach (rhythmic gymnastics) always says:
"There are many great gymnasts but only a few great competitors"
And to me that's just the thing with Yulia right now. She still is the great skater we all fell in love with, what she needs to relearn now is to be the great competitor again that everyone has seen she can be. If she can overcome her physical struggle due to puberty and regain her jumps it will be great and she will be a medal contender again, like she said herself. But what I would like to see her get back much more than medals is that competitive fire and that look that could kill.
They called her "The girl with the body of rubber and the mind of steel" during the Olympics and no one can expect her to move backwards and become that person again but whatever they'll call het or she'll call herself in the future I'll be happy with it as long as it's not "the sad looking" or "the exhausted one" or "the girl who's done" anymore, cause she's more than that.

No one with at least one exception, Yulia herself. The 4 year plan. Therein lies the rub.

I love this. I'm going to Euros and if she's gonna be there I would like to buy this. Is that possible?

I've been out of the loop for a while, and hearing the comments about Yulia's Finlandia performances, I've been a little afraid to watch them. But now that I have... the SP, at least, wasn't bad at all! Sure, she made a mistake on the combo, but I think the program is exactly what she needs: fun, upbeat, and a departure what what she's become known for ("sad little girl on the ice"). I don't understand the criticism that she's too stiff for it--I thought she performed it quite well, and it will only get better. :)

Heck, I even kinda dig the rainbow-and-sparkles outfit, though I'm not quite sure how it relates to the program.

Her LP I'm a bit hesitant about, because it does seem similar to her Olympic season SP (and it's impossible to recreate that magic). However, I don't want to make judgements on it yet; the fall seemed to take the wind out of her sails, and the rest of the program wasn't skated to its potential. Maybe it will be mesmerizing if skated clean--hopefully Yulia can regain her confidence and do just that.

I agree with you on the SP, in the test skate I really enjoyed how the 3-3 was timed to the lyrics, she's usually good with the SP, I think at Finlandia she was just getting her early season jitters out of the way. so I don't think it'll be reflective of the rest of her season

I think the LP is similar to her Olympic one too but I think the program is also exactly what she needs, something safe and in her comfort zone so she can get her mojo back. I have my own reservations about the program but I think it could be a good vehicle for her. She's got her work cut out for her in order to make the Euros/Worlds Team again. The dress is beautiful though, it's one of my favourites so far in the season, it's simple but sometimes simple is more

I don't necessarily think her costumes are bad overall...just a bit surprising, considering that I thought they were trying to move away from the little girl persona. Maybe she will have different costumes like with Romeo and Juliet last year...before settling on a final choice.
