Yulia Lipnitskaya

I do hope she capitalizes on this momentum and does a few more competitions before next season, just so impressed with the almost immediate improvements.

The biggest question in my mind remains how much Urmanov will be able to assist in helping her make a mental shift, insofar as being ok with making a mistake and not allowing it to unravel the rest of the program. She's clearly a fighter from how well she rebounded in the short, so I'm confident that'll eventually get addressed.

That is why I think there is no need for her to compete any longer this year. They need time to work and preparing for some minor competitions now is not gonna change that much. Better work now and start earlier the next one, competing in Senior Bs and other competitions. Kind of what Liza did. Maybe not that much though.

Well, actually seeing her skate, and in how little time we can already see improvements, I wonder how much of her mistakes were really in her head or if her technique was starting to fail her. I don't even know what to think, on the one hand, three weeks is hardly enough time to revamp all the jumps in her arsenal, but three weeks doesn't seem enough to deal with the psychological aspect of her skating too, so I don't know.

I just can say that her loop was lovely, and she hit the lutzes 2 out of 3 - by the way, two 'tano lutzes. The axel seemed to be the one to give her more problems, and the flip is still a bit of a problem for her, though, with the new technique she was able to actually land one, so, we have to wait and see.

She's mostly guaranteed two GPs next season, right (from the fed, not necessarily based on season's best)? Polina will still be a junior next year, so Julia is going to be in the top six of seniors (Sotskova probably moving up).

Yep, I totally forgot that Polina is not age eligible for seniors next year. So Yulia can get the funding!.:yahoo:

Good job holding on Julia!!
I believe this is a correct step towards even bigger improvement and better result!

It started out really good and she seemed to be feeling the music more and the refinement made by the team provided result.. They brought back more extensions/moves she used to do, which is nice. I still enjoyed her skating despite some glitches. I mean, a pop and a missing combo. Not bad and it's her best since about over a year so it's good. :agree2:

I was a little confused because obviously they redid the layout and I didn't know when the combo is supposed to be.. I know one is the 2A-2T (supposed to be 3T) but not sure where the other one should be.. first or second half, though I'm leaning more towards the second half because she didn't seem like missing anything in the first 3 jump passes.

That shot of her and Urmanov holding hands warmed my heart and love how he's comforting her. I hope she's keeping her head up because she showed improvement, not just for most of the jumps but also the artistic/performance side. And with him I'm sure he'll continue helping her towards the better result.

Keep on keeping on Julia!! :agree:

Well, if we go by infos flying around, maybe her layout could be 3L, 3Z, 3S, 3F+1L+3S(?), 2A+3T*, 3Z+(?)*, 2A+2T*(maybe).

She went for a triple-half loop combination in the warmup but didn't do the third jump. I bet the plan was 3f-1lo-3s.

I thought it'd be more likely for two 2A-3T combos, and a 3-1-2 instead, since otherwise she'd zayak, and 3t was always a stronger jump for her than 3s. Too bad she couldn't tack the 3t onto any of the 2As, though. But I just wonder, wouldn't it be smarter to try and do the three jump combo as soon as possible, so that if she misses it, she can do it on the next jump?

It will be nice of course but I think her stay in Sochi was already worked out with the fed and her sponsors to carry her thru the Olympic season. I guess the funding will probably go to Alexei and his group.

thanks~
Welcome to GoldenSkate!!! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us and your words are understood quite well :) You'll find that I too am a huge fan of Julia. Hopefully we'll hear more from you as Julia continues to improve. 3 weeks with the new coach was not enough to fix all but I'm noticing improvements in her jump technique already. Plus she skates with her heart and with so much emotion. Anyway....post often and post long here at GS :cheer2:

Ah. Whatever, as long as she has all she needs. :hap85:

Hm I see..
I think they might probably go for 2 2A-3T combo like Satoko. If not probably one of that and one 3-3. Anyway I look forward for that loop combo once she's ready for it!

(idk I'm too sleepy to be thinking about jump passes/layout guys it's time for me to go sleep.. been a long day!)

I think it is the best result for her this season. And very positive for the rest of her work with Urmanov.
First of all during interview she said that she didn't have time to work on her psychological issue in the free skate, she said that during the training she succeed to do her free program entirely without fault but that in competition there is always the psychological problem. She didn't had enough time to work on it with Urmanov, that's why she is nevertheless happy because her goal was to be in top 10 of the competition. Then she said that since she moved in sochi she just fall in love with figure skating. WOAWW what can be more beautiful and touching than this sentence ?? I think this is most important than any of the scores that a skater can have !!!
I also already talked with Alba ( by the way hello Alba :D) about the fact that in sport there are people who have to meet each other. I think a coach has to find his skater, and a skater has to find the coach who is going to help him being the best he can be. And Yulia found this person, I think this is a bright cooperation, and the work between the both is going to be tremendous !!! We just have to be patient and prepared to see our perfect yulia next season. I have the feeling that next season will be for her !!!

Sorry for my english who is still bad :pp

Interesting that her psychological problems seem to affect the combos so much. It is a bit unusual to see an FS program on this level with no 3T at all. Maybe I have missed something here, but since she seems to be more ok with the 3T-3T, couldn't she include it and try 2T in the other combos? That would have raised her TES significantly. Or was the danger of popping into 3T-2T and the subsequent Zayak threat too big?

You nailed it ;) You have wonderful English. Better than mine which is riddled with horrible grammar and slang terms. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I for one totally agree with you

I think this is the best from Yulia this season, so the coaching change is positive. She needs more time. She only has worked with Urmanov for 2 months or so, this is great already for her. Now I hope she will have some rest and work hard for next season.

Yulia said she's only been with him for 3 weeks.

Can't help falling in love with figure skating:laugh:Thank you for the information, would you mind if I post it on a website in my country?:)

Well, having watched the video now (damn stream! Shakes fist!), I am moved to post here again (goodness, am I turning into a Yulia fan? ;)).

I thought I saw a big improvement, but not just in the skate. She didn't look crushed, resigned or dead-eyed in the K&C like she has all this season. It looked like: "Ah, that's saddening. Ah, well, what I expected for now. What's next?" Massive improvement in outlook and attitude. And, with that established, Urmanov and team can go to work.

I have noticed that Urmanov isn't just hugging her as she comes off. He is talking in her ear whilst he prolongs the hug, I believe. Whatever he is saying is doing wonders. ;)

haha thank you so much, maybe we can found a team named "bad english speakers but determined to speak" :p

Rus Nats were a bit bittersweet. Realistically I did knew that the possibility of Yulia's 100% clean free was small, but oh was I hoping! Urmanov is doing miracles to her - all she needs is a little more time to hold herself together.
