First outing for team Lip-Urmanov.
The ? marks are much solved after just 3 weeks: yes, he's going to be a good coach for her; yes, Sochi is great for her training.
And I have no doubts that she will be taken in charge completely, technically and psychologically. After all Urmanov was a skater and gold medalist and he can fully understand her needs.
The SP was a really great Christmas gift. And to me that was enough.
On the rise again.

I also already talked with Alba ( by the way hello Alba ) about the fact that in sport there are people who have to meet each other. I think a coach has to find his skater, and a skater has to find the coach who is going to help him being the best he can be. And Yulia found this person, I think this is a bright cooperation, and the work between the both is going to be tremendous !!!

I think you are absolutely right, and your English is quite lovely so no need to apologize! I am super happy they found each other as well, and excited to see them again next year! They ended the year on a really positive note, and still have much room to improve, which is probably the best position to be in at this point.

Well, having watched the video now (damn stream! Shakes fist!), I am moved to post here again (goodness, am I turning into a Yulia fan? ).

LOL, you and me both. Her SP was my favorite skate from this competition, and one of my faves from the year!

And it's good to see that angry, self-critical look she's had in the past after an unsuccessful skate...which is a strange thing to say, I know...but so much better than that sad, deflated expression she's had for the past two seasons. It means, she's ready to fight now. Good things to come! I'm just bummed that we have to wait so long to see her skate again.

Any chance she goes to this so I can watch it on TV. The last and only time I ever saw Yulia on TV was the FS at TEB 2014. Also, is there an Exhibition for nationals? If so, I hope Yulia gets invited...although they probably won't invite her since she's not top 5

I'm really happy about this. I think she already had a good idea about what happens when you stay too long without skating in competitions - from december last year until october this year - and I don't think it did her much good - and Urmanov seems to think the same way. I agree completely with him that they need to find a balance between training and skating, because the environement of a competition is never achieved in training, and the strenght to deal with that is needed for her.

And just by this interview it seems that Urmanov have no doubts about the work he has to do from now on - and the good thing is, he's not making excuses for her mistakes. It's amazing to see the coach himself owning up to them. He didn't even say she was unprepared for the competition, so it's good. She has in it her and now they have to work the problems out.

You're absolutely right.
She's very different now, no cry, no rage after an insuccesfull skating, it seem she knows what to do in the future and what she can improve.
We saw another Yulia in the SP, we knew she had to improve something in her free skate.
I think this sixth place in the national is a promising result for the future.

Just watched her FS... OK there were some wobbles... but just like the SP - I can see and feel the life, the emotion, the passion, the magic returning to Julia's skating. Her artistry is beginning to shine again. It was beautiful despite mistakes.

I was worried before, about such drastic changes in her life (coach and location)... but now I'm sure she's on the right road...

She was invited to SA gala let alone in her hometown. I believe she will be there.

I finally got to watch her FS - I was a little terrified after reading some of the messages in the competition thread - some of those made it sound like she had 1 of the worst skates. Was it her best, no, but I would rather see a skater go clean (no falls) and do a double than try to push for a triple and fall. Minus the popped jump and the wonky landing she was clean.

I'm glad to hear Urmanov is looking to send her to more competitions - I was wondering why Eteri didn't do that last year or earlier this year - since her problems were really only showing up in competitions, why not send her to more competitions to get the mental bugs gone.

Didn't Eteri say Yulia didn't wan't to train, and compete? Maybe as a coach, she chose to just take that at face value. I think Eteri got a bit freaked out by everything that transpired after the Sochi episode and didn't know how to help Yulia deal with her issues anymore. She did her best, but the limits of that relationship were reached. This guy comes in with a fresh perepective, and is taking control of Yulia's comeback process. I think he's making the right call. He has already fixed some of the issues with Yulia's skating that she might not have noticed, or nobody bothered to point out to her. It isn't always going to be what she wants or feels most comfortable with, but he knows what she needs to succeed. Since he is new to her circle, perhaps he can be more honest with Yulia and tell her what is best without fear of hurting her feelings. Being a huge part of Yulia's life for so long, Eteri might not have wanted to jeopardize their relationship (if I were to be cynical, I'd point out the obvious financial interest as well)...so she might have had some reservations about being totally open with Yulia...that or she was just overwhelmed. In anycase, that seems to have backfired, but Yulia is in a good place now.

Finnaly had to collect my thoughts from the last 2 days.

SP: All I gotta say is WOW. I cried with her so much, gosh she was AMAZING!!! The coaching change was definitely positive, because in only 3 weeks, that's a huge improvement. Since Sochi season, it's probably the first time she skated her heart out like that. Congratulations Yulia, all lipnitors are so proud of you!

LP: It's still so beautiful, despite the mistakes. I like the simplistic, new approach of the choreography. Like someone in the Russian Ladies LP thread already said, simple is beautiful. It now looks less rushed and cluttered, we can appreciate each second of the program.

I can't wait what Team Urmanov has in store for her! Being an ancient Mishin pupil, I believe he will help her technique too. I think the main problem until now has been psychological, but I think that he is very supportive and will boost her with confidence, because he is an Olympic champion and has felt this kind of pressure.

I hope Yulia will participate in more competitions, even if they are smaller. No better way to switch the mental game on.

OMG idk why but it just made me laugh..
I mean no guarantee even a native speaks perfect English, right. I think the most important is that to get the points across. Well of course unless you're doing a formal paper haha.

OK a bit OOT there. Going back to Julia!

Rewatching her free, I really like the way she whips those edge jumps. Also, noticed the change of technique for the flip.. and I suppose it's supposed to be a combination, whether it's a 3-3 or the half loop one. I have no doubt she'll nail that in the future.
I think she got nervous into the second half. Her 2A is normally very stable and she'd get that 3T in the end next time!
Shout out to whoever it is cheering after she did her last jump pass. I think if she could, she'd try to sneak one more combo but she ran out of room. It's alright Julia, you did well!

I also would like to mention again how much she's improved artistically. I found the way she moves, performs the choreography enchanting. No sloppy moves and she finished the moves well, holding the position long enough. It's calming if I may say, maybe because it seems so light and effortless. When she manages to deal with her trouble in the free, she'd be great. :agree2:
