Yulia Lipnitskaya

It's most likely that Yulia is not going to start this season. It is important now so that she could have recovered her health hundred-per-cent. The recovery is proceeding well but it takes some time.

At least she is recovering, which is a good news. Wish to see a stronger Yulia next season

I miss her skating so much!!! It's hard for me to really get into the sport like I did a few years ago when I could watch all disciplines and all events. Now I'm just lucky to make it thru all of a FS or SP from any one discipline anymore. I agree a great deal of magic is missing without her. It's not even like I have anything against the great skaters that still compete but it just doesn't capture my imagination and feels different.

She always seems to project straight from the heart.

I've been a sad panda lately

Do you think Russia can release her after 2018 because then she won't be a reigning OGM anymore.

It's sad that we won't be able to see her special skating just because of the rule (and honestly less pressure for her during nationals would be good, she won't have to overtrain so much in the first half of the season).

We all feel sad too... but she is one of the greats and she will be back... something to look forward to.

I think this might be the most feeling she put into Schindlers List. It's from the Summer Tour after Sochi and she turns it into more of an exhibition and if I'm not mistaken this is one of the last performances she does of SL. You can just tell that she has really mastered the program and feels every movement down to the finger tips and really takes her time and slows down a lot of the choreography. Worth a watch in my opinion.

In a way I feel very sad to see her taking so much time away from competition, because ofc I'm very selfish and want to see her competing. But I want her to be healthy more than anything, want her to feel good while skating, and if she wants to come back, it must be to smile after her programs like she did at the SP in Moscow. That's the Yulia I want to see.

Would she even want to represent another country than her own? That's a big deal.

And what country would she represent?

She isn't ice dance/pair skater to get the citizenship of her partner. Also her parents are Russian and she has never lived or trained in another country.
I hope Yulia will have spectacular come back after her injury just like Nathan Chen had. Also to be honest she needs spectacular come back.
But I wouldn't mind if she became professional. Her delicate skating and musicality is what ice shows need

She can pull a Viktor Anh  Haha...I don't really know.

She has Polish surname, just saying.

No, she doesn't. It's just the way Russian surnames are translated into Polish. Unfortunately all female surnames ended with -aya (-ая) are translated this way (I guess it has either some historical background or it's just a way to make declination easier). For example Irina Slutskaya's surname is translated into Słucka which sounds even more Polish than Lipnicka. Or even better example: Russian volleyball player Olga Chrżanowska whose surname is originally spelled as Хржановская.

EDIT: As much as I am happy that Yulia takes her time to recover fully it makes me worried about her GP Series place next season. I had a conversation today with a person who knows ISU rules better than me. She said that Yulia can be invited even without required TES score BUT each country has limited number of spots per GP so if Federation favours some other skater they might not let her go.:(

To be honest I'd prefer Yulia in Challenger Series in 2017/18 season. It will be far less stressful than Olympic Season GP Series rivalry which might be a bloodbath :slink:

I don't quite understand what you're trying to say above ("Słucka" is indeed of Polish/Belarussian origin), but even Russian figure skating people admit "Lipnitskaya" is of Polish origin.
I'm sure every Russian/Polish linguist will confirm that as well.

Actually that's a Russian name derived from a geographical location. The name itself is not of Polish origin although the way it was derived is. I'm a linguist btw.

According to wikipedia, there are 3 villages named "Lipnik" in Russia and 21 in Poland.

but..but.. I want Yulia Olimpiiskaya :slink:

Still she has no Polish roots (or at least our media said nothing about it and I also found nothing).

I want happy healthy Yulia :) There will be probably a lot of pressure from Russian media as she is Olympic Champion and I don't think she needs any unnecessary stress.
