thanks plushyfan. This is a brilliant production, finally I see something in skating that is worthy of Yulia's gifts. Musically it is the classic Nutcracker ballet, they deserve much credit for preserving that mainstay of traditional Russian musical culture. There are some changes. For example, instead of the national dances that are a part of the Nutcracker ballet, they substitute types of athletics that are especially artistic. Like figure skating, these competitive sports have untapped artistic potential. The light show is spectacular. There are no physical stage sets, all sets are light, as in a dream. Plushenko's final dance is a wonderful tribute to the joy and mystery of dream worlds, to the magic we have just experienced. But the greatest moment is just before, where the ice dancers perform to Tchaikovsky's grand pas de deux. This music/dance is the point and high point of the entire ballet, it is about the ultimate mystery-dream, love. The skaters are glorious.* Skaters have it all over ballet dancers, dancers can't float, much less fly. There is much more to praise in this ice show. Unlike all other ice shows which tend to be random mixes of pop culture, this can become a genuine art form.

The Nutcracker ballet takes place in two worlds, the real world and the world of dreams. The traditional Nutcracker ballet calls for two different dancers representing the central character Marie, one in the role of real-life Marie, the other in the role of the dream Marie. In the current production one skater performs both roles. Yulia will most certainly take the part of the real-life Marie, which is a solo role. The dream Marie role requires an ice dancer because of the love story with the prince, so the current Marie will likely take that role only. Two skaters for Marie will emphasize the two worlds of the Nutcracker.

I hope that other artistically talented skaters who are frustrated with the low level of art in competitive skating will become a part of this remarkable endeavor.

I just rewatched the sotchi team event schlindlers list. and really its soo good, so much flow. It didn'tt felt like a competiton at all. after all this years she is still so amazing to watch. she is the only one who knows how to give all the rushed transitions from eteri camp some depth.

sorry for being off-topic, but I had to share my emotions.

If Adelina has a role it won't be major. She is the black swan in Plushenko's Swan Lake, to be premiered in Moscow at the end of this year. It is amazing they will contribute to an ice show, their involvement is a measure of their admiration for Plushenko and their respect for his vision. This has the potential to really shake up the dance world, and hopefully the skating world. Yulia will soon be creatively involved with top world-class artists.

From this clip from a longer article, it is unclear whether Adelina will even perform in Nutcracker. The article is weak factually (this won't be Yulia's first ice show). "This winter in Petersburg, the fairy tale on ice, The Nutcracker-2, will surprise not only with high-class figure skating, high-tech 3d effects and memorable scenery, but also present a real musical theater. Stars of world figure skating - Evgeni Plushenko and Adeline Sotnikova will perform to the accompaniment of a symphony orchestra. The Nutcracker 2 will be the debut for the youngest winner of the sports championships - Yulia Lipnitskaya. The figure skater, who had never before participated in ice performances, for the first time in St. Petersburg will come out on the ice as one of the main characters of the fairy tale."

The land of Yulia fandom is a deep place! This is the place to share those feelings. I agree too ;). It was frustrating back then that people say she skated with no feeling. Looking back I’m amazed at how much she skated with her heart on her sleeve with such poise and grace.
