Yuna Kim

In recent induction to South Korea's sports Hall of Fame event(ignore all those political drama). Yuna gave her acceptance speech and she said she will dedicate to improve/advocate Figure skating in future.
For details, maybe some Korean fans can translate the original speech.
Yuna has been helping figure skating throughout her career and she will continue to. I have all my respect to this lovely lady. :o:

As following a NHK Trophy preview on the NBC Sports site, I just found this article. :)

Yuna Kim makes South Korea sports Hall of Fame after reported rule change

http://olympics.nbcsports.com/2016/11/23/yuna-kim-hall-of-fame-south-korea/ NBC Sports By Nick Zaccardi Nov 23, 2016, 10:54 AM EST

“Those who were inducted into the Hall of Fame were veterans for sports community, and I feel that I’m too young and not qualified to be named a sports hero,” Kim said Wednesday, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Kim retired after taking a controversial silver medal at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and is now a prominent ambassador for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games, the first Winter Olympics in South Korea.

Congratulations to Yuna and thanks for the great contribution to the sport. :hap10:

Congratulations Yuna!

As expected of one of the three gods of Korea https://twitter.com/6O___o/status/801354499466166272 :laugh2:

Congratulations Yuna for this achievement! Who is the male person (sorry, not an expert of Korean matters?).
Anyway, it is really great that Eunsoo gave the speech for her, she really reminds me of Yuna in the poise and in the jumping technique (even her dress in the SP is Yunaesque)...I really hope that the Korean girls have a bright future in the sport!
And please, Yuna, skate to Arirang at the opening ceremony in 2018!!!!!

"I recognize this honor as an encouragement and support for me to lead a meaningful life."

Yuna :luv17::luv17::luv17::luv17::luv17:

It's Yoo Jae Suk, he's a host and comedian in South Korea, he's known for being a really kind-hearted person in real life.

And thanks for sharing the commercial matmuh! Yuna looks great and the kitty is cute too.

Anyone knows when Yuna will finish her university studies?
I am sure she will be very busy these coming year, because she still studies at the Uni, then she also helps Korean youngsters (I don't know though how often, how much), and she is also in the organizing of the PyeongChang Olympics. She also attends various events and galas, and does commercials.

I can see why she has no time doing shows (or she also doesn't even want to).

I heard stuff like she would be graduating soon earlier this year but it seems that she's still studying. I'm hoping for some news too but I'm guessing training a new program to perform would probably take away too much time from studying, when I was studying I had a hard time finding time for the gym. I guess she's just focused on trying to make Korean figure skating more stable before deciding to come back and skate or anything.

Anyway I made her new Maxim commercial 60s into a gif format because the world always needs more Yuna. Thanks again to matmuh for sharing.

Thanks, the gif is beautiful. I have just followed you on tumblr :agree:

Yuna's coffee commercial lead me to this video on youtube. I will never forget this. Every scene: yuna's red team korea jacket, her bare face with flying baby hair etc.... like just happened yesterday.
And I also find myself in this video.

Oh, were you there at Worlds 2013? It must have been mindblowing to watch Yuna competing live and winning her second world title. :eeking:

yes, I was very lucky to be there to witness the whole thing. very, very, very lucky. A extremely precious experience, literally once-in-a-life-time.
All the scenes in that video, I have witnessed with my naked eyes(within a very close distance). That is why it felt so real, vivid and fresh like yesterday, when randomly watched that video.
Got a little emotional again, thus posted the link.

EDIT:
something else I found randomly.
no comments about these 2 videos.
but it is interesting to watch the comparison.

It really must have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I know that watching fs live is a completely different feeling than watching it in the TV, because many details can only be seen and heard and experienced live, like the real speed, ice coverage, charisma, or the reaction of the fans, the atmosphere.
What was Yuna like in real life?
I can't remember too many ladies performances from the last 5-6 years after that the whole stadium went completely crazy, but Yuna's FS at Worlds 2013 was definitely one. I was watching it on a live stream in the middle of the night with tears running down my face already in the middle of the program.

Thanks for the videos. Yes they are interesting. I won't comment on Medvedeva but it is clear, to me that Yuna is my favourite ever jumper in the history of figure skating. The height, the distance, the lightness, the running edge are all perfect.

I've only watched one competition live, and it really is different. (I haven't watched Yuna...god how I wish I could invent a time travel machine and go back to see her!)

The one I watched was Skate America this year. It's really interesting because on one hand you realize that the skaters are actually human, and most of them are TINY, rather than larger-than-life goddesses wearing $5000 bedazzled dresses skating at 100000 mph. The camera angles really make them look really BIG and also make the rink look really big.

On the other hand, it's a whole other different type of fun to watch skating in person! You can really feel the energy emanating from the skater if he/she has momentum, and also from the crowd as they get drawn into a performance. And if you're in the front rows, seeing them whiz by you realize how much faster they go and how much more dangerous the moves they do are compared to what you see on TV.

I agree. Watching skating live is a very different experience. The crowd is more enthusiastic live than as it is feels like in the TV (Florent Amodio's long program was a super fantastic experience live at the Europeans this year, but when I re-watched it on the internet, well, the atmosphere was nowhere near as good as it was live). I also think they seem faster live and the moves are more dangerous than in the tv (especially for ice dance!).

The skaters are really very tiny in person, all of them are very skinny/small and musculous. Some of them also look younger than in tv, especially the ladies if the don't wear too much make-up off ice. Oh the costumes...they look 10x more gorgeous live. The colours are more vivid and the sparkling is even more stunning. I can't really imagine what Yuzu's Hope and Legacy costume looks like in person, because it it absolutely wooooooow in tv.

As for Yuna, she must have had lightspeed on the ice because even in the TV it was obvious that she was always way faster than any other skaters.
Neither have I watched her live, though I did have my chance. I will regret it forever that I didn't travel to Croatia for the Golden Spin in 2013. It was my first year at work and December was a a bit busy month so my boss asked us not to go on holiday. I should only have said that I've catched cold and offf..I could have traveled to Zagreb for Thursday-Friday-Saturday. I am so stupid :palmf::drama::tantrum:

Yeah, and the spins look way faster too. Like on TV some of them even look slow, but in real life it's like "Wow I've never seen anyone spin THAT FAST before."
