Yuna Kim's foot injury was severe and is still severe

I thought her foot injury was a minor injury.
But a recent news from one of Korean broadcasting company (MBC), revealed that Yuna's right foot injury was very severe as her foot was actually fractured (1.5cm+ long) and she had to go to hospital until the day before she left for Sochi. And as a result of her fractured right foot, she's been using her left foot more than she used to and this caused another muscle injuries on her left leg.

Her doctor and physiotherapist had to go to Sochi with Yuna.

Her right foot is still fractured and her doctor said Yuna must be in severe pain during her performances. The doctor also said her injuries must have affected her spins and jumps.

I can't believe Yuna delivered two beautiful performances under severe pain. I'm so proud of her.

I will update my post when I get more information.

I really do feel sorry for Yuna. Her 'people' are obsessed with making her no. 1 no matter what.

I just learned from yuna kim gallery in dcinside that Yuna was still suffering from her injured right foot. Initially back in last September, the Korean media reported it wasn't a serious injury, but the media disclosed the truth today finally. She had 1.5cm crack on her right foot bone (sorry, I'm ignorant with medical terminology) and that's considered as a serious and grave injury in this sport where the healthy foot condition is a must for all the jumping and other tech elements the skarer has to perform. She was reportedly still going thru rehab until the very last moment up to the departure to Sochi and because of her pain and not so good condition, her mom was worried for her very much and specifically asked the physical therapist to accompany her to Sochi so that she could continue to receive care from him during the games. To compensate for her injured right foot, her left leg and left foot had to overwork and the news anchor followed that her left leg was often paralyzed from time to time. That's why we had frequently witnessed her massaging or lightly hitting her left calf at times during this season. And she found herself not recovering fast and well like the past after the rigorous training regimen, so she had to take antioxident fluids and vitamins to speed up the recovery process back in home while prepping for Sochi. The news also said she really depended on the painkillers this season and some people in the yuna kim gallery suspected that her face looked quite swollen in Sochi like her face from 2008 Worlds when she had excruciating back pain and that maybe she had to take pain meds due to the foot pain. I'm writing all this info on mobile, so cannot provide you with the link, but hopefully Inspiration could do that later.

Heartbreaking, that may be the reason y she cried feeling so relieved

Is it just me or does every time Yuna loses the gold, we have to get explanations of injury or lack of motivation/stress,etc. There always has to be a reason. Personally, I wouldn't have picked Adelina as the winner, but I think there is an argument for each of the medalists for being Olympic Champion, depending on your view of skating and style preferences. This is what happens when all of the medalists produce clean performances.

Lose the Gold ?

well.. there is actually no excuses.. she delivered as the last skater in the lp and did not crumble under pressure.. but the judges think otherwise.. so.. if she loses the gold and didn't deliver then that would have been an excuse..

Why does she even need an excuse? what for? she delivered two clean programs while her physical conditions were not even suitable for skating (her foot and her 10 degrees tilted and injured vertebrae).

And please don't make me start with "losing gold thing". I do think she deserved a gold. But my opinions on that belong to another thread :)

No, it's not an excuse. Every time news of her injury leaks out, the media keeps harping on that. Being perceived as "oh, that girl with some injury" may give you an excuse for an underperformed skate, but it also sends a message to the judges and to everyone that you might be slower or less powerful because of your injury, when you might be skating just fine. Kim wouldn't have wanted the Japanese and Russian media going all about her injury, so she just wanted to keep it quiet until at least after the competition.

Yes, the news is true. Not surprising for me(I'm Korean). The doctor interviewed because the competition's over now. Yuna got a minor injury 2 weeks before the Vancouver Olympics, and the news also revealed after the Olympics was over.
The gold medal in Sochi? Her silver medal is 10000000000000000 times more precious than a diamond medal for us.
Some Yuna fans want her not to do the gala and to come back home soon, but I believe that she'll stay there until 25th.

I'm really happy that she finally retires.

Sorry for my English.

I strongly recommend yuna not to participate in gala. So many fans are worried about yuna's injury and i don't see why she has to do that 'imagine' gala in russia.

This is probably the nicest thing I've heard yet from a Kim fan. Regardless of the color of her medal, she skated her best under the circumstances, and that is enough for supporting her.

I didn't think she brought her A game, but an injury would explain why she didn't kick up the difficulty of her programs or skate like Vancouver 2010, and she should not wait to become a broken, bionic female Plushenko before she retires.

it's a gd idea of doing "IMAGINE" in russia, she deserves much better than that... but her injury made me heartbroken, how did she able to do two flawless programs with that horrifying injury...

Well...I'm not a figure skating fan but a Yuna fan, and I got to know Yuna's personality better than some Figure skating skills over the last 7, 8 years.

I don't think that the russians in the stadium deserve 'imagine' gala, but Yuna will do it for her fans and others out there.
She mentioned repeatedly that she did not care much about the result, the audience, and the judging. She only promised to do her very best to do clean performances, and she DID!!!.

For me, she was an great figure skater and a warm-hearted young lady and now, become a true champion.

I know what you mean, i couldn't agree more, it's always the same lame excuses with her over the past two years.

where is the excuse again? she skated her guts out there with back to back performances.. she didn't blame anyone after this mess.. so where's the excuse again?? :disapp:

You guys are like my mother. I messed up my bedroom two periods in my life, for good reason, and she yelled "You've never cleaned your room in your life!"

(I'm cleaner than her :) )

No matter what the circumstances or the outcome, YuNa delivered two gorgeous programs, and it was an honor to watch them. Her reputation does not stand or fall on where she placed this week but on her body of work through the years, which is astounding. I'm sorry to hear that her injury was so bad, but she skated through it and carried herself like the champion she is.

Well if she was hurting it didn't show. She landed everything very well. Even the 3Lz she was a little tilted on was landed well. Now that she's done competing, hopefully she can rest and fully heal.
