Yuzu’s future? | Page 2 | Golden Skate

Yuzu’s future?

It'll probably different for him for a while when Javier retires. But as the others mentioned he has plans for the 4A so... he will most likely continue.

Yuzu talked about it last year that he spoke to scientists if its possible - same with the quints and that theoretically it is physically possible.

Yes, the whole quints thing came from Kozuka, he has a masters in physical education. I want to fling a Pooh at him for putting that into Yuzuru's head :dbana:

I bet if he coming back to TCC after he treat his injury and see the 'Gold 2018' under his name in the plague he will be like " what is r-word?! I'll go to the 3rd gold in Beijing!"

😂

Very funny 😄. I’d like a pile of those toys btw. So adorable. And just crazy to see in rain Pooh bears every time he skates. Japanese fans are so generous.

As much as I enjoy Hanyu and would love to see him in Beijing I can’t see it.

I think he’ll stick around for two more seasons tops, get a couple of more world golds under his belt and MAYBE land a 4Axel in competition before retiring.

The younger sec of skaters are only a few points behind him and are only going to get better, while Hanyu won’t be getting any younger. No matter how great an athlete there’s only so much mileage the body can take.

That said, if he’s not going to Worlds which I don’t believe he is, I hope he will take the time to heal and rest before returning to competition.

Well which is it? Yuzu at worlds then we say goodbye? Or he continues a couple more years to land quad axel? What has he told the press in Japan? Is it physically possible for him to do quad axel? Chen has problems with triple axel so it won’t be Chen to do it. Has anyone ever even done it in practice?????

Heal ankle first- he said so multiple times in interviews after men's event completed. and repeated this latest at yesterday press conference in Japan upon arrival from Korea. Then the 4A thing. He is NOT retiring yet.

I agree, and I would be amazed if he could find within him the motivation to go right to 2022 now as one of the only multi Oly winners in history now, and most already calling him the GOAT (greatest of all time) at this point. Particularly if he reaches his ultimate goal of the quadruple axel before then (as knowing Hanyu he probably will). Although if anyone can prove that wrong it would be Hanyu, and I would love to see it.

I want to give him a big hug and make him all better.

Don't worry, with the last few quiet days, it's obvious that he is taking care of himself and his family is there to hug him and make him feel better :agree:
I think he has such an amazing family that always stayed in the shadow and never tried to show the world that they had any part in his achievements. While they have supported him with whatever they had, they never put themselves in the spotlight. When you see all these conflicts between parents and coaches, you think what an amazing family he has that even asked him never mention them in interviews :agree:

I've only started following Hanyu more closely during the Olympics, and he seems to have defeated numerous odds and defied lots of expectations.

He's 23 and while he's not getting any younger, it's the age when he conceivably still improve. Patrick did. Nobunari Oda was able to learn 4Lz recently, I believe, and we know how old Oda is. There was somewhere an interview with Orser in which he mentioned the differences in approach to training between Hanyu and Javier: when Javier was learning 4Lo, the frustration of constant falling and not being able to get it right was a torture and sucked out all the will to train, for Hanyu such frustration was a normal part of training. I think this approach is what allowed him to upgrade his technical skills every year even though he he was past 20 and which could allow him to remain competitive.

If the 4A works out, the only thing, I think, which would prevent him from sticking around for the entire next quad is his propensity for injury. He's been skating injured more often than not in recent years and with going for something as difficult as 4A, the history may repeat itself.

Excited to see Yuzuru land 4A and if he intends to go to Beijing 2022 he could probably do a threepeat OGM.

New member here. I used to love and follow FS religiously but have been out of it for the last few years. I don't recall the FS event at Sochi being particularly riveting but the FS event in SK was incredible. Every event was spectacular and I really started to follow both Yuzu and Zhenya after this. I've gone back and watched some of his performances on you tube and he is so incredible. The GOAT for me (at least in the last 20-30 years, hard to compare different eras though) and I've watched Brian Orser, Boitano, Petrenko, Stojko, Browning, Urmanov, Yagudin, Plushenko and Chan many times on TV and in person. It will be sad day for the sport when he does hang up his boots but he's got such a great head on his shoulders. It's a very good move to finish his University studies to give him something to fall back on when he's done his FS career. He has done so much for FS in Asia - look at who we have now in the men's?! It's incredible!!!

JSF just announced Yuzu will miss World Championship. his injury needs 2 weeks of rest and 3 months of rehabilitation. Kazuki Tomono will replace him.

"Based on the diagnosis of the doctors, I cannot compete at #Worlds2018. I will concentrate on getting treatment and rehabilitation so that I can be back as soon as possible and do what little I can day to day."

Well, we saw this one coming. I´m sad he won´t defend his title, but the fact that he prioritizing his health shows how much Yuzuru has mature.

Hope he heals well and zoom. :)

Much as I would have loved to see Yuzu at World's, I am pretty pleased he is not forcing matters and really trying to heal. Health is more important than winning another title.

It's going to be strange to have a WC with both Javi and Yuzu missing, although we did get a (small) taste of that at the GPF. I am hoping he will be back, and if that's with a 4A bonus, even better but it's not really necessary. His skating and jumping is already top notch.

The good part is that we're going to have a complete new World Champion, as both winners of the WC in the last Quadrennium won't be present. Exciting!! Boyang, Shoma and Nathan are all worthy contenders, and who knows, perhaps one of the two Russian guys might surprise us all by having skates of their lives. I expect both would want redemption, but Kolyada especially.

I do not want to see him land a 4A, because I do not want him to injure himself training the 4A. The 4Lz is easier and hurting himself on that element took him out for months.

As usual for veteran skaters, he will be underscored so his younger rivals can win. Carolina is the only one who gets a pass.
