Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

sooo looking forward to the EX tomorrow

I just pray that this time the commentators might manage to shup up for a nanosecond :rolleye: during the OLY Gala K. Witt kept commenting on all the ooohh so sad programs and how they all don't seem to be too happy about winning medals. Especially after Yuzuru's program. And when the other guy said that, well, maybe that's just what the kid wants to express she kept going on in some whiny voice like "what? his deep sadness? his high capability for suffering?" ... *gasp* some time someone should tell this lady when she needs to %&§ the %§)"/ up!
(sorry, rant over, still kinda annoyed a month later :rolleye: I need a second hobby)

Who are these commentators? Omg who are they? BBC? CBC or NBC? I am curious.

nah, don't worry, you are still safe ;) German tv station.
Katarina Witt was on a mission to keep me from enjoying my new hobby and tried to (litterally) talk me out of it.

I wonder what he'll choose to do, if it's not R&J2.
Somebody asked Hanyu what exhibition he would do, after the small medals - they asked if he would do R&J #1 like in Nice 2012.

Hanyu wanted to keep his Ex number a secret, but he did say that R&J at world's 2012 was a special (legendary?) performance - and people shouldn't expect that again. If he did it in exhibition, it wouldn't be like Nice 2012.

A good answer. He can never repeat that performance, so maybe it's better to let everybody remember that free skate as it was in Nice 2012? Don't go back to it, even as an exhibition?

I'm usually not a big fan of programs from the competitions used at the gala. I like to see another side of the skaters (Machida's Queen program, for example). :)
And I agree with him, that performance can't be repeated. It's special because it's unique and it should stay like this.

2 time Olympic champion and does not know when to shut up and give the audience objective comments? Kinda disappointing. I guess her talents in old days do not help her with her current job.

It is better to watch with british esp commentary of Simon Reed and Chris Howarth than with german

I also love the British eurosport commentary
Unfortunately, the Romanian commentators are a little bit boring and seem almost sleepy  But they don't talk very much during the performances, which is good. And one of them likes Yuzu.

She just really really really likes to talk... over the years she has popped up here and there on various tv shows and at some point..... sock, meet mouth - and stay in there!

Unfortunately I had to make consessions because I don't own a tv ;) and livestreams tend to reeeeally hate me, so I like to play it safe

I tend to agree. I guess there are technical aspects that he might perform better today but still, the way he exploded in that performance... I'm not sure he could repeat that without slightly disappointing us and/or himself
or maybe he could, what do I know  keep forgetting the kid's got superpowers.
it's like before his FS yesterday, I had this weird feeling... the way he pushed away from the boards and started gliding backwards oh so slowly... I dunno, it just felt unusually reserved and cautious, gave me a bad bad feeling in my tummy (thank God it wasn't worth the two brain cells I burnt out for that thought.)

So Yuzu's ok?

He's not too injured and can perform in the gala? His gala exhibitions make me very happy but I hope he's not in too much pain when he performs them.

I hope he does R&J (1) to pay some sort of homage to his journey, and it will be special in it's own right. Or maybe the Étude short program? I'm just really missing that gorgeous costume. I hope his costume for the FP next season will be prettier and more symmetric than the costume this year, hehe.

Hello, I'm new here, and was drawn to the forum because of the active discussions about Yuzuru who I (one amongst the millions) absolutely love, ever since I saw his Sochi performance and then went on to dig up all the videos of him from kid to present day (THANK YOU SENDAI TV). He is great on ice and off ice, with talent and charm. Damn I really want to watch him perform in real life!

Congrats to Yuzu for winning WC after Olympics, and for the great performance he gave, showing that he did what he said he would, he worked on the quad salchow for sure!

He deserves all the adoration, and I hope he stays healthy and skating for a long time to come :)

The kid has never let me down, I love his answer to the EX question! IMO, he's right that such an impressive, or even legendary, program cannot be repeated. He can perform it again but the feeling will not be the same. The best way to appreciate R&J-1 is to watch the Nice 2012 for 10000000000 times:biggrin:. Let's just keep it in everyone's memory, that's what we call a classic piece of art, isn't it?

I find the judges were indeed strict to Hanyu this time. It's still acceptable and I can't say the judges were wrong but Yuzu's GOE and PCS in FS were both a bit tight. Probably the judges wanted to recover from the Olympics scandal? They really gave a test to the reigning Olympics champion.
