Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Inevitably, with this incident, there's going to be endless discussion in the media about many things including the whole should he/shouldn't he, hero/fool, etc. I feel really bad that at this time Hanyu-san has to be confronted with articles/tv programs saying that he is now being looked up to and that he should think more carefully, etc. The pressure of being a role model is stifling. I totally understand everyone's point, both agreeing with his decision or against it. It is just hard for me to think that he is sitting at home, trying to recover, and hearing opinion like "oh maybe this is not really setting a good example" and "maybe he should think what impact he has on other kids before he acts". Call me overprotective or oversensitive, but I can't even begin to imagine what is going through his mind right now.

I understand your worries and concern for Yuzuru because I also share the same. That is why I am glad he is not in Toronto right now but instead in Sendai with his family who only has his welfare at heart. His father is a high school teacher who I am sure has the necessary wisdom to impart to his son. His mother and sister also appear to be well-grounded people who can strike that delicate balance of supporting without mollycoddling him. With their guidance and support and his own intelligent and discerning mind, Yuzuru will take away the necessary lessons from his experience in the COC.

Earlier I have posted that I would want a jump or spin named after him. But if out of what transpired in the COC, the ISU established the needed rules/protocol and it became known as the "Hanyu/Han" rule, I would not complain.

Thanks also to those who posted links and updates.

Yeah, I agree with you @Maria Victoria. :agree: Having a jump, spin or rule named after him would be really noteworthy, Hanyu deserves it after all he's been through and accomplished!

What the “Persistent Prince” needs to go back onto the ice is that his legs fully recover. Gold medalist in men’s singles in the Sochi Olympics Yuzuru Hanyu had five injuries with some being on his head. It was revealed on the 11th that if his bruises on his left thigh and sprain in his right ankle heal, he will be able to resume training.

During the six minute warm up of Cup of China, Hanyu and China’s Han Yan suddenly collided, resulting in bleeding from his head and chin. He returned to the country to do a medical examination that found “head contusion, chin contusion, bruising in abdomen and the left thigh, and a sprain in the right ankle”. Luckily, no abnormalities were found in the brain. According to authorized people, the doctor who had examined Hanyu had said that “As long as the pain in the leg is gone, you can resume your training.”

However, it will take an estimated 2-3 weeks for all five of his injuries to heal. His back injury prior to the Cup of China also worries many. It seems for now that his attendance t NHK Trophy will be a tough decision. Hanyu’s original plan after Cup of China was to return to Canada to train, but because of the incident, he was rushed back to Japan on the 9th and received a full-body examination in a hospital in Tokyo. No major problems were found, and he returned to his hometown, Sendai, on the same day. He will not return to Canada before NHK Trophy, so if he does compete, he will have to make adjustments in Japan.

Hanyu’s comment that was announced the day before (10th) through the Japan Skating Federation was “For now, I want to slowly rest and receive treatment” and “I want to think about my schedule from today on as I see how my injuries recover.” For the sake of standing on the rink in a competition once more, he will have to stay calm and wait for the foot to recover.

I read an article saying JOC has exploited Yuzu too much and that BOrser has protested but in vain. JOC replied with "we see." but still arranged too much Shows for Yuzu so that his normal practice schedule in Canada has always been brocken. Since Mao and Taka turned into professional now, there's no one who can shall with Yuzu the burden of making money for JOC.

Maybe you mean JSF. The Japanese Olympic Commitee doesn't have anything to do with shows.
Anyway this article was shared a few days ago, but the source is a gossip magazine so it's not exactly trustworthy.

Johnny Weir, Tara Lipinski discuss collisions in figure skating

http://olympictalk.nbcsports.com/20...ion-tara-lipinski-johnny-weir-figure-skating/

Weir said he would like to see the International Skating Union increase warm-up time from six minutes to 10 minutes, but not necessarily to split the six skaters into groups of three for five minutes each. Rather, he emphasized that six minutes is a short period for a skater to warm-up an arsenal of program elements.

Additional clips uploaded from NBC & CBC - warning if you are still not ready to rewatch the actual collide......I only had the courage to look at that part of the clip last night >_<

Impossible.... that would wipe out the "get to the lobster/champagne 5 minutes quicker" measures that they only just introduced.

It is more likely they will use the CoC collision to justify eliminating the 6 minute warmup altogether, "for safety reasons". Thereby getting to the bar 11 minutes faster than a year ago.

And while they're at it, probably remove the "ready in 30 seconds" in favour of either:
"we will start your music when we choose, much like a race starting pistol. You better be ready", or
"your program begins the moment you set foot on the ice"

(then we're in the bar FIFTEEN MINUTES faster! Cheers everybody!)

Anyway, rather than giving the skaters time to take it slow and cautious... 10 minutes warmup might actually increase the chances of a collision, simply because more ice time gives more chances to collide. And they still might not take it easy anyway.

My only question is...who is it that determines he is no longer suffering pain in leg? If it's Yuzu himself....then....okay let's form a prayer group, to pray for our fragile hearts :p
Yes, if it's Yuzuru who said "pain is alright"... then I am sorry we need some oxy tank watching him again because I am afraid we might pass out even before he passes out.

I don't know ho other other can determine if Yuzuru is having pain or not if not he

I was excited about 3 quad LP, but in my opinion he should drop it this season. He can't train consistently it now, it's too much. He should go back to this subject next season :disapp:

As the doctor said that Yuzuru could resume training when the leg pain was gone, I think I know :p that he has already determined to participate in NHK, whatever other people try to tell him. Maybe he is now counting the days left, considering what to do everyday.

As far as I see this practice,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0mg7xFGHvk

I think, other than his change of 4T+3T to 3Lz+3T, he changed his biellmann spin to 'A' spin (wasn't it?)
It seems he kept his head rather clear under such condition.

If he could participate in NHK, he should give up 4S and changed it to 3S, then 4T as it is, and 3Lz+3T as in CoC, with less difficult SS. This would reduce the burden, but still there would be a strong possibility that he can secure the podium, hopefully 2nd or higher, but 3rd might be enough to go to the Final.

Withdrawal may be the best, but if he goes to NHK, he and his staff would be thinking some strategy, I hope.
Edit: He should take repeated medical checks for a while. I heard there are cases of bleeding in the brain gradually and suffering a seizure after a while, even if the person is OK right after the accident. I hope not, but just in case.

I'm doing some volume of translation of civil engineering (:scowl:) these months, I wanted to concentrate on the work, but it was and is hardly possible. I'm just praying for Yuzuru, his early recovery.
