Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

 I like his 'fearless' too, but unfortunately I don't think that Yuzuru will play safe .. Even if it's the smartest way. I mean, he's already exhausting himself for absolutely nothing at exhibitions, this is certainly not a a smart move :bang: I don't think he will be upgrading his program content seamlessly but someday that 4Lo will be there plus even more content and probably his consistency will suffer even more...
Those exhibitions are his obligation plus he makes some money out of them. I agree that if he will not play it safe during the upcoming season someone else might get the main golds. And that one being consistent and great in jumps department is... pam-pam-pam- Javier Fernandez. And being #SuperJavi I might do everything to get three main titles this coming season: GPF, Europeans and Worlds. If the programs are good and he's consistent- there wouldn't be better time for him to get it. Just saying.;)

A young Yuzu at backstage with Mao and Kanako (probably - only 1/4 face showing...) Looks like Yuzu was hanging out with Kana and wandered into the camera. See the funny reaction of Yuzu noticing the camera~

Olympic team competition, Yuzu is kinda rough to Brian?

Seems like Yuzuru will attend the tea party of the Emperor & Empress on the 16th along with 100 other athletes

photoBehind the Scenes of hana wa saku, three teammates with mascot, lovely

NHK Sendai's mascot, Yappe today posted behind the scenes of 'hana wa saku'. So lovely of Yuzu and Canno Yoko with mascot!

* Yuzu with Yappe
* Canno Yoko putting Yappe on head
* more photos...

Canno Yoko particularly praised Yuzu's last part of performance, when the voice repeating twice "for you (君のために)''. So natural expression as she hoped.

Someone know what this video is about? (asking for support or something like that?): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2K95ooRe2hc

And funny imitation of the moment when Yuzu got his score after the SP at the Olympics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC4B1sQBFg8

From Nam's twitter: If this tweet gets 1000 RT's, then I'll have Yuzuru get an Instagram or a Twitter account https://twitter.com/namskating/status/487247907989372929
Don't know what to think...If Yuzu wanted to get one he can decide on his own and there's always haters (but I would love to see more photos...I'm quite conflicted)

OK, Nam explained his tweets just now.
1) People asked him why he deleted his tweet about Yuzu opening SNS, his reply:
http://ww3.sinaimg.cn/bmiddle/005wKdpLgw1ei91y39exbj30m70ei40k.jpg

2) People asked him if Yuzu did agree to open an account, his reply:
http://ww2.sinaimg.cn/bmiddle/005wKdpLgw1ei91y6h4ssj30mc0b1ta0.jpg(So does it mean Yuzu actually is considering opening SNS account and approved Nam's game...)

3) His explanation of the whole thing:

Something about the Toronto Cricket Club and Fees I think. Can someone translate please.

News clip of FaOI Niigata preview today. Well, long time no see Yuzu's gold medal again.

Can't keep up with this thread so not sure if anyone has posted this yet. It's TV news about the rehearsal at Niigata Faoi. You get a glimpse of other skaters too plus someone who really cares if he messes up his hair :

Thanks, echotpe, for the video. Notice how the kid cares about his looks:

It seems that he said he himself likes the game very much.

He does like playing games. We don't know which game he really likes though

I don't know remember if this interview from 2010 was already posted but I'm more interested because of the location in this pic which again appeared in his 2012 interview. My sister and I are having a discussion on where it was taken (home or hotel).

Frankly I think these 2 seasons (2015 and 2016) are not as much as important as 2017 and 2018 cause you know it's the Olympics that matters the most to skaters. Young skaters should try to restrain themselves for the next olympic, while older skaters who are at their prime like Javi should try to grab as many title as possible while they still can, as you know Javi is already 23. He will be almost 27 when the next Olympic comes and little chances there. So I hope Yuzuru maintain a good health for this season and the next. Not too many ice shows, not too many difficult jumps, try to be as clean and consistent as possible. Please Yuzuru!

I think Javier won't play safe either though .. and I would love to see Javier winning the GPF, especially because it's in Spain. And that he will do so giving his best and his other main competitors too, that's why I think consistency is always desirable for everyone, especially when you achieve some reputation. I would never want to see Javier, Yuzuru or anyone winning anything in a controversial way because of consistency issues, so that's why it would be great to Yuzuru to tone down during ice shows. But if he's having fun and feel that it won't affect his next season so let him be.

That might mean he'd have to make it low and I don't think he'd be allowed to. He's a national hero now and that, say, horse of gold he's riding now, would be ridden until it's dead. Lets just say the upcoming season would be a prove-to-everyone-he's-number-one. And consistency might be shaky. It's not bad, it's a very possible reality and easy to understand. The season after 2014-2015 would be much less stressful, I think. Perhaps, Yuzu relaxes and let go of quads-no-matter-what strategy. And then the ice would start to boil again. And you are right- two seasons prior to the next Olympics would be crucial for his career if he decides that Olympic gold is his still main target. Anyways I'd love him to be a main contender for that gold but it's all a matter of the strategy. And it's out of my hands totally, I can only hope for the right people and right decisions taken in the right time and place. It's just some thoughts, not trying to be negative or pessimistic. Please don't get offended anyone reading this.:)

What I meant is to tone down the content, of course he has no say in how many shows he will attend but he has the right to skate to whatever layout he wants. I think I have never seen Yuzuru doing a "normal" exhibition content though. Just for an example, Yulia is also a "national hero" in Russia right now and her exhibitions in Moscow had absolutely no jumps. Obviously, I'm aware Yuzuru would never do this, especially because his jumps are his trademark but so many 3a, 4t, 4s, 4lo is unnecessary. Well, in the end, just like you said, it's out of our hands

Meh, if I were Yuzuru's mum, I would say this to my kiddo: "Sorry, no jumping fest in the ice shows, my chid. Or else I won't cook for you. Instant ramen for a week if you disobey my rules. No too much difficult layout for the next 2 seasons if you still want to compete. Disobey my rules and you will be banned from skating."
Well, just a way if I want to protect my child. :slink:

I wouldn't compare him to Yulia though.;) Yulia is still more of a future whereas Yuzuru is NOW. Julia's trademark is spins, Yuzu's trademark is jumps. So what would you show during your best show?;)
To me his Worlds 2014 EX when he skated with all those complicated jumps not toning it down- that said a lot about his character. He's a warrior, a fighter, a true samurai. I totally respect people like him.

And he's also a growing man. This December he's 20 and would be considered an adult. I have no idea what is the tradition in raising sons in Japan, I'd rather say- keep your head and let me support you as much as I can. But that's just me.:) Actually I'd love Japanese forum members to give us a hint on how Moms in Japan deal with these kind of issues. Could you please share some wisdom? I'm curios.:)

I would not compare Yuzuru with others. He has very light body so jumps are propably not wearing him so much as for example someone with Javier's body type. Even when he falls, he have good balance so he can't hur himself really

I am a very stubborn child, at least to my mum and she always complaints that I have never listened to her even though she is always right. and we are Asians just like Yuzuru's family so I expect not much difference. My mum is also a math teacher like Yuzuru's father. But I think we are less strict than his family.

The thing I am worried about Yuzuru is exactly what you are saying. Mum in Japan would probably all say things like this to their children: "I will support you no matter what! But I am very worried about you."
:bang::bang: no, you should have ban him or something like that.

Funny how it reminded me of one of Lambiel's interviews when he had been asked what he'd rather perform- a jump or a spin and he said that jumps are less exhausting. But- his spins (Stephane's) are really complicated and he's a still amazing performing them!:)
Yuzu does have a good balance but only for the last two seasons. Prior to that his falls would go into quite a visible pause before continuation of the program. Now if he falls he rather jumps back onto blades like a cat. And I like it, he's still strong and ready to fight.

Yeah, I just hope he will start landing that damn quad salchow consistently. It is painfull to watch when he is going down in competition when you know he can do effortless quad sal in practice. ;) Hopefully it will not be longer a problem for him. It is only problem in head with that salchow :)

I have a feeling Yuzuru is a stubborn kid too. Remember BOrser saying that he tried to talk Yuzu into 4T and 4T+other jump rather than stumble upon 4S and Yuzu never listened? Here you go.
And how would you imagine this kind of convo?
Mom: Son, if you do not tone it down on jumps I throw your skates out the window.
Yuzu: Okey Mom. I'll buy new ones.
Mom: But your feet will hurt!
Yuzu: I know. Pain is normal.
Mom: I'm not gonna feed you!
Yuzu: I don't care, it's summer and it's hot. Not hungry anyways.
Mom: SON!
Yuzu: MOM?

That's why I meant it as an example of another way of handling exhibitions and why I said after:

"Obviously, I'm aware Yuzuru would never do this, especially because his jumps are his trademark."

I agree, I appreciate this character too (to some extent, while always being aware of the health) especially when it's done at the actual competitions :)

I would do the same  ; Protective mom - mode on

So he loves chocolate? Really? Eats it a lot? That's news to me. Wonderful news. I love it too. BTW that line: he says "not hungry anyways" cause he had a chocolate already, so that line stays true to the character.
