Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I think fans tend to overanalyze photos searching for "hints". A whole relationship with a person doesn't show up on a single photo, unless it's something really overboard  But maybe I don't think it's a big deal because i'm also from Latin America. As another person already said, there's cultural differences, here you can post a photo with a guy kissing your cheek and/or hugging tighly and there's a really high chance that people will still label you and the guy as just friends.

Can't agree more. Honestly, just meeting no more than 3 times a year and only in competition, I don't see any chance between the two. Not to mention the language barrier. And every celebrity has his/her own life that fans don't know anything about. There is no use analyzing those photos too much because they are just a tip of the iceberg.

That's just ridiciolous they can't touch each other  I respect other cultures rules etc. but there are some boundaries of nonsense :slink:

Yes, it's just a casual photo taken at a banket, nothing more. Some people take it too far because deep down they want to know more about the person's life but that's ridiculous because this type of thing will be forever out of their reach; there's no use in discussing if there is or there isn't a chance of a relationship. It's better to focus on the work of the "celebrities" rather than hint at their personal lives. But I guess this type of fanwar exists regarding Yuzuru because there's a part of his fandom that seems to be really young and/or liking him romantically, so it's inevitable.

While I personally see nothing wrong with those pictures (quite the opposite as I've probably made clear) I wouldn't necessarily call it "ridiculous" if other people have a problem with it. Not in general anyway.
But I do question the reasoning of some people. I'm sure there are people who really feel that it's not appropriate to get so close for a picture if you don't know the other person all that well. That can have cultural or simply personal reasons. Some people just like their personal space more than others, nothing wrong with that.
But more often than not I get the feeling that those "fans" just like to ***** about stuff like that, because it's not them in the picture. Simple as that. And some fans also just tend to obsess over everything and then get mean and aggressive, it's not like we haven't had that discussion before. Those "ubers" or "bots" or whatever they are called around here, they exist in every fandom. (And everywhere they are just as annoying, but usually they represent only a very small percentage of the fans)
I've said this before: those stupid little "fan wars" are usually about stuff that the "stars" themselves couldn't give two ***** about.
And while I believe that cultural differences certainly should be factored in - you also can't just say "he's Japanese, he wouldn't/shouldn't take a picture like that with a girl". There's a difference between acknowledging cultural differences and creating prejudices based on cultural stereotypes.
Just my two cents, feel free to disagree.

I've seen a japanese show with Oda at youtube where they show the important bits of his life, like a farewell to his career, and there was photos of his weeding and him with his wife and children. I don't remember the video though, If I could I would give you the link :ohwell: But she's pretty

Nice to know! I used to see pic of him with his adorable kids though.

From Sarah Alainn tumblr http://sarahalainn.tumblr.com/post/91692675178/dream-come

As I was watching from backstage the final curtain call where all the skaters were leaving the rink, gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu motioned for me to come out and we took a bow at the edge of the rink. That was already such a generous gesture, but the next second Yuzuru took me on to the actual rink!! I was both shocked, elated, confused and feared I’d slip as I was in heels. Then the French legend Philippe Candeloro came out of nowhere and the two gentlemen walked me to the middle of the rink.. the lovely Akiko Suzuki then gracefully skated towards us with her iPhone in hand and took the amazing photos. Honestly, without these photos I’d thought I’d dreamt the whole scene! What an honour it was and a memory I will cherish for as long as I remember.
Thank you x

Go see the pictures :D

Figure skaters travel a lot for competitions and shows; they come into contact with a wide variety of people from different cultures, particularly if they train abroad and/or have a foreign coach & training mates. I don't think it's odd that Yuzuru would be a bit more relaxed with a girl, especially another skater he knows, than perhaps a "normal" Japanese teenager who hasn't been as exposed to Western life. And I've seen plenty of other Japanese skaters who take the same kind of photos - Miki Ando for example, just look at the last 2 pics she posted with Javier and Dai.

What is weird to me is how obsessively some people analyze an innocent Instagram pic or whatever (and I don't necessarily mean the Yuzuru photo, just in general), but maybe it's a generational thing.

New articles in Japanese:
http://sportiva.shueisha.co.jp/clm/othersports/2014/07/13/post_375/index.php#

A little summary of the article credited to Yude poster from yuzuruhanyu.forumatic:
・Yuzuru thinks that he didn't realized that he had been burned off after the season ended because of many shows and events, but the cheers from the audience in the ice shows made him realize that how he had been "a mere shell of a man" (after the season ended). He was motivated by welcoming as the Olympic Champion by the crowds. And he also says that to be with top skaters inluding Plushenko was one of the factors to become real him (Yuzuru) again.

・About SP, Yuzuru liked the "feeling" very much when he had skated to piano piece for two years in his junior days, so he had been thinking about using it in the competition again. He thinks that classical music is very difficult to express because the story characteristics are vague, and that that's why he chose it to broaden his range of expression.

・Yuzuru had an idea to put 4S in SP but he thought he couldn't have risk yet. He succeeded in doing 4Lo in the practice but he said he probably won't have it in the programs. He thinks the most advanced jump to put in the programs for him is 4S. He has been challenging 4Lo and 4Ltz to raise the success rate of 4S, he thinks that he needs to take his abilities and limiting point higher.

Didn´t see this video, sorry if it was already posted https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myCJKEcO5uE#t=159

Monkey Majik talk a bit about TOI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PDa3coTrP4
They mentioned how Yuzu used Change as his exhibition when he won JW.

He said Yuzu is nice, a gentleman, cool and has a pure personality (optimistic/ always looking ahead?). He really respects him^^

About the photos, I feel like fans are just overreacting to a typical bit of closeness showed (with a female). His gesture to Sarah Alainn told in her tumblr post is really kind and respectful!;)

Yep, just last week, Li posted another photo of yuzu and her at the gala after-party and that stirred another round of internet fan battle. She was writing something like ''where, when, and how was this photo taken? I can't remember it at all''. Yuzu fans are like it was you who posted it, how come you don't know where, when, and how. And it was almost 4 months after the gala, why the hell bring this up again. Li fans are again blaming Yuzu getting way too close at Li. Now Li seems to have deleted this pic. But this one is still on her SNS.

Oh I don't want to see Yuzuru fan turn to be such a stupid uber, they act like he is untouchable which only reflects their inner jealous of the female skaters.
