Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

I think he is the guy to watch for in 2018. So it is not difficult to understand that why Yuzu wants 3 quads in his LP. The field is always packed with talent and if he has 2018 olympics in his mind, he would need to challenge himself technically.

Just saw this on twitter that in a magazine article Orser was asked to describe his 3 star pupils as animals:
Javi: monkey. carefree but smart.
Nam: cat. Surprises everyone with his movement and cute.
Hanyu: owl. wise calm and observant. looking at the big picture while aiming for the goal.

Brian Orser really understands his students so well!! Such great descriptions!!! I'll be getting some owl accessories to carry around besides pooh from now XDD

Yes, definitely. I've always believed that this guy would be the greatest threat to Yuzu. I already sensed that Boyang would do well in COC, but going clean in his senior debut is still better than what I had expected. He's improving really fast. But for now, I'm more worried about NHK trophy, because Boyang will compete there. I'm sure if Yuzu falls on one of his jumping passes in the sp, he can still get around 95, and Boyang will still get a little over 90 if clean. But I really wish this scenario will not happen because it does not feel right that an unclean Yuzu beats a clean Boyang. The haters are going to bash Yuzu really hard:hslap:

When I saw his interviews, so much of which were given in English, the positive youthful energy of his core kept on defining the feel of the interview, and it is totally, as well, part of him when he skates. He thinks with wisdom beyond his years, skates with wisdom beyond his years, and learns with wisdom as well. The journey continues, will continue, and the best and greatest of his ability is still to be seen.

He hasn't peaked yet, we shouldn't forget,Orser said the same. His greatest years still to come I strongly believe. Just have faith in him and follow him, remember "he is no more, or less than Hanyu Yuzuru", He always can keep old layout and play safe, but it isn't true Yuzuru. Personally I chose to believe him and his team.

Completely agree with you both! It's exciting to watch Yuzuru grow and develop. Even as he gains wisdom, he still keeps his youthful exuberance.

I think Yuzuru's 3 quad program is to challenge himself, not to stay ahead of younger "jumpers". He's always pushing forward - including the 4T before it was completely stable, then persevering with the 4S.

I actually see Shoma as the next generation great men's figure skater. At 17 many describe him as having the whole package.

We don´t know how things will continue and it´s too early to say things like "he will go to Pyeong Chang as the Japanese #1". But this is typical for Yuzuru haters. :whack::furious:

They will always find young guys to hype, next season it will be Nathan, and Aliev. It's the same circle over and over again. Ignore those who make you feel irritated. One or two good seasons don't even make you a great skater. Pushing the boundaries make you one. And Yuzuru is doing that.

I think Yuzuru knows he has to evolve to keeps the top spot, that's why he keeps pushing himself so hard. Even NA journalist said his long program is good for him in the long run. Actually now I am more worried of his SP, that 3lz3T doesn't seem to work anymore. I'd love to see Yuzuru going for 4T3T and 4S in the SP, even if the chance of him going clean in Chopin might be even much less, it's still not as annoying as being hammered down by a 3-3.

I don't worry about NHK - it is just a GPS. What I am concerned is 2018. If Boyang can have his quads consistent and improve his presentation skills, and he will be a big threat. He still have three years ahead to improve. A lot of time for a young man. But well, I think the sport is always full of competition and rivalry. There is always someone up to challenge the champion. If it is not Boyang, it will be someone else. I wish Yuzu good luck and get what he wants.

Are you addressing your comment to me since I brought up Shoma? I have never said he would be Japanese #1. I only brought up Shoma because I actually think he is more promising than Boyang.

By the way, stupid is a pretty strong word.

Actually even if Yuzuru doesn't skate clean it is understandable that he gets a higher score than Boyang because his artistry is far more developed than Boyang's artistry and is basically more of a rounded skater than him, so if anyone does bash Yuzuru for leading they're probably casual viewers and don't understand that figure skating is more than getting your jumps done. Anyway let's see in another 2 seasons or so for Boyang to get deserved components and not 'boosted components'

But I just remember Ryuju's spin was exquisite. What I rember about Yuzuru is his Ina Bauer and hair style

Yuzuru says in the video that he is drinking water containing gold to make his body flexible. (This is a kind of superstition in Japan, and it was believed so before. Vinegar is also believed to be effective to improve your flexibility, even now )

You know what? I’m glad Yuzuru peaked early in the season. I think his FP at Skate Canada will give him the confidence he needs once he acknowledges his own mental ability to get the job done when he works hard for it (btw I’m taking this theory with a grain of salt). He knows he’s back being the chaser again and probably has a strong desire to prove himself. Honestly, I think he doesn’t do so well when he’s the one everyone is chasing. There’s just a lot of pressure and it seems Yuzuru can’t really cope with it, so I’m glad Patrick is back. As for NHK Trophy, it’s still early in the season so I feel like he doesn’t need to make a statement just yet. Right now he needs to focus on himself (psychologically) than relying on extrinsic motivators to influence his drive. Yuzuru can do it. I’m sure he did clean run-throughs of his programs before this season started. However, the problem here is for him to have the right mindset for them, which he clearly didn’t have for his SP at Skate Canada. If only he can establish some sort of intrinsic motivation for himself, I’m sure it can positively reinforce him to perform well in every competition. I swear, being a fan of Yuzuru is exhausting because he’s really unpredictable When we expect him to do bad, he skates well (GPF 2014), and when we expect him to do well, he doesn’t quite meet our expectations. What a roller coaster ride of feels we’ve all been through together, and how did we ever survive them?
