Yuzuru takes over practically all the lists!

Edit: This is such an epic moment that even Singaporean newspaper had to report it!! , though it seems that the reporter is too excited that he/she made an error, it's 3 quads in his fp, not 4!! XDD

Hanyu's NHK performance made it onto ONTD (one of the biggest LiveJournal accounts) - http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/99176238.html#comments

ONTD coincidentally also loves Hanyu.

NHK 2015: Translations

Boy, that was exciting.

Has his interview translation been posted?
I'll copy and paste the one I posted in the event thread. It's a rushed work and I was too excited so my grammar is very off...
Hanyu interview in brief (as I remember):
- Thanks for the fans' support, the TV audiences, Cricket team, Sendai rink (To fans, he said 'You may have not directly done anything to me, but you gave me support, a great power for me.')
- I made a very very hard work between SC and NHK (he used expression similar to 'I sweated blood')
- I'm glad to achieve this score at Nagono rink where the Olympic took place (he mistakes the place name and says 'I'm too excited')
- I'm surprised and can't believe the score still. But I was thinking 'I will do it.'
- I was very nervous before the FS. I normally speak with Brian before the FS but today I couldn't.
- After the performance, Brian told me 'Good boy' but I thought 'Am I still a boy?!'
- This event is over now. I have done a very hard practice till now but I must thank for the fact I didn't get injured, and for my 'sensei' who took care of my body. And I will make another effort to do better.

Can't remember what else he said... anyway, he sounded very excited.

Added according to the bits I found in twitter.

Press conference 2questions and answers mostly Yuzu talking
http://sports.yahoo.co.jp/column/detail/201511280006-spnavi?p=1

Sorry I am just too tired to translate right now after exciting historical day. I will sleep because it's midnight here.

But I just wanted to say that he talked about how he heard and felt the supporting voice of people from around the world which logically and physically should not be hearing while he was performing and that has enabled him to do this.
I think our prayers reached him!!

And he said "he will continue trying to go further ahead since it is not his last competition nor Olympic Games in Pyongchang nor the next next Olympic". I think this really is the first time as far as I remember that he talked something which really indicates the possibility of competing even afte Pyongchang, and I was thrilled

Nontama0817 has already translated the gist of it above, but since I've already done it, here is my attempt.
It was kind of hard to understand Yuzuru's train of thoughts when he's still excited. Please let me know for any mistakes.

http://sports.yahoo.co.jp/column/detail/201511280006-spnavi?p=1

Thoughts after the FS (Yuzuru's reply only)
- Honestly, I'm so excited that I don't know what to say. I have a feeling of joy and also gratitude towards the people who have supported me until now. This isn't the PyeongChang Olympics yet nor the Olympics after that nor is it my retirement competition. I want to continue to work hard to give good performances. It's not about the score, but having a performance that will remain on people's minds.

Hanyu-senshu, as you were landing your jumps one by one, what kind of feelings did you have at the end?
- I just wanted to execute them carefully (any other better word for 丁寧?) and like everyone else who was surprised by my score, I was too. Right now, I don't have the words to describe how I feel, I haven't been able to digest how I feel towards my performance. I feel like I'm floating. Regarding the FS, it's not like I landed all the jumps nicely nor executed all the spins and steps well. I just performed by putting my feelings towards each of the elements, putting my trust in how I've been training and putting trust in my body. Each time people cheered for me after each successful jump, I could hear their voices, felt their gazes, thought that I could hear their inner voices that in reality I cannot hear, I felt something like that from all over Japan and all over the world.

A question for everyone. At NHK Trophy, all the skaters planned for quads in both the SP and FS. There were 25 all together which calculates to 2 for each skater on average. Looking into the future for the next PyeongChang Olympics, how many quads and how many types of quads do you think will become necessary?
- My lutz isn't stable unlike Boyang's. I have landed it by fluke once but the quality of my lutz and loop aren't as good as his. For the axel, I've challenged it a couple of times but I've never landed it nor rotated it.
So for the question, how many quads will be necessary in the future, my answer is that I don't know. I don't remember exactly, but I have a feeling that things tend to change with the Olympic Games. The most impressionistic Olympics for me was the SLC Olys and back then, all the skaters who placed in the top 10 all had high quality quads, but at Vancover Olys, Evan Lysacek won without a quad.
If I were asked which is correct and which is wrong, I think they are all correct. After Vancouver, a lot of people in the fs world were discussing whether a quad is necessary or if the winner should have been Evan Lysacek and an answer never came out of the discussion but almost 50% of us at Sochi Olympics challenged and fought with the quad.
I'm actually surprised that everyone (at NHK) went for the quad. But a quad isn't about just going for it, but it's about landing it nicely. Points are rewarded for landing nicely. The difference of BV between 3A and quads are only 2 points. A nicely executed 3A with GOE of 2~3 points is worth more than a quad. To put it bluntly, my understanding of the rules is that, if all jumps are given GOE of 3 points, you can win without a quad like how it was at Vancouver Olys.
The reason I'm going for 4 to 5 quads in the SP and FS with difficult entries and landings plus the 3A with qualities that are worth as much as quads, is because I think they are my greatest weapons. There will be more skaters of variety coming out. What I felt this time is that Boyang, who just came up from juniors, has included quads in the 2nd half of both his SP and FS and performed wonderfully. I think I'm seeing the future of figure skating in him. This isn't the only correct answer and I want to pull out everything I'm able to do and attempt quads with much more difficult entries and of higher quality.

Sorry for talking for so long

Okay, quick and dirty Dutch to English translation/transcription.

Men's FS, Yuzuru Hanyu, SEIMEI, Ivo something and... Haya Leenaerts? Let's just call her L for Lady.

Ivo: One more FS to go, and let's hope it'll be just as nice a program as with the SP. Yuzuru Hanyu, almost faultless (in the SP), almost, because his first quad S could have been better, and he got over 106 points. PC has the world record, let's look at that, 196.72, two years ago at TEB, and that [Hanyu] will win here is hopefully already a done deal in his mind. Enjoy!

(Dutch commentators not being very commentaty, in fact, shutting up altogether for the duration of the FS)

L: Yuzuru Hanyu already wrote history yesterday with his SP, a big world record into the history books, and I cannot imagine he didn't repeat that feat now. The Big Hat arena is going crazy, because this was a historic performance, really-- well, maybe the best-ever FS I've ever seen. So difficult, with a grand total of three quads, 2 3As, but everything was so well connected with transition, no long preparations (note: gee, she likes saying that, doesn't she? She said the very same at the SP, lolol), it all went so easy, and technically it was so beautiful, the whole FS is Beauty (she literally uses beauty as a noun), of course it's not just the jumps, he can present, he can skate wonderfully ("fantastisch", not the same as the English fantastic), and at the start of the season I thought, "Yes yes, maybe he's got a too difficult program, and not everything worked out yet, but now it did, every piece of the puzzle fit together, and this is what he worked for, and they knew, these two guys (at this point Yuzuru just comes off the ice and hugs Brian) knew that this was possible, and they sort of started the fight against Yuzuru himself (awkward translation), they set their sights high, not win on "safe" this summer (Dutch/English combo expression, niet op safe gaan), because he can win if he goes "safe", no, they wanted to set their sights as high as possible, and look at this, the end of November, he already reaches it.

(at this point the slowmos start, and I take a very quick break from translating, hehe)

We're going to look at the 4S, jumped even more beautifully than in the SP, on to the 4T, gorgeous, also fit very well in the music, close-up of that terrific toeloop technique, 4 rotations, beautifully landed "backwards" (not sure how you say it in English), no turning on the point, no cheating, many of these connecting passes, another jump, another 4T in the second half of the program, actually, he had planned a 2T in that combo, but he thought, what does it matter, I'll just do a 3T, I'm in a good position already, and I feeling good, and then this second 3A from passes (steps? I don't know all the correct words in English yet), jumped well from passes and then wonderfully the arms in the air, a 2T and how well did it go together with the music, another 3A, well, that was the second one, that immediately followed it in the second half of the program, he did five difficult jumps in the second half, that'll earn him another 10 % extra. Yeah, where will this go with the points score?
Of course he is given loads of presents, stuffed animals. Respect for the coach, Brian Orser. What a difference with a year ago, Ivo (note: oops, okay, so I've been going on the assumption the guy commentating was Jeroen Prins, but in fact it's Ivo... something. Maybe Prins is at NRW trophy in Germany judging?) when he skated really badly here in his home GP.
Ivo: yes, back then it was less than a point difference or he wouldn't have made the GPF, which he won. Well, he's not gonna have to worry about that this time. Look at the score. 216.07 is a new world record at almost twenty points, and then we're only talking about the LP, and the 300+ score, yes, this is--
L: never before a man has skated 200+
Ivo: and not just a bit over it, he combined the SP of his life with the LP of his life, ha, yes, even Orser is amazed/shocked, and he certainly has had some experience with this sort of thing. Unbelievable, and yes indeed, where will this go, because you said rightly, it is the end of November, this is "just" a regular Grand Prix, we still have the Final, and Worlds, and he's already skated almost perfectly, the only thing was the 4S in the SP, there were "some things" you can comment on (note: ?? honestly, Dutch people can be soooo critical, the 4S wasn't even that bad), but not more than that. He wanted to do this for his fellow countrymen, after indeed not having a great performance last year, but this is something much more than "doing it for" [someone].

Note: what a difference from the British commentators, eh? Honestly, I don't know what it is about these Dutch figure skater commentators, but you would expect a bit more excitement than this. It's all so... meh. Okay, I'm biased, and they're professionals, they're supposed to be objective, but I'm not getting even 1/10 of the excitement at what Yuzuru Hanyu accomplished as the British guys expressed.

Translation from the Russian Commentators.

Man: Let’s see how the man that loves yellow pooh will answer, Yuzuru Hanyu, Olympic champion that did something unbelievably amazing in the SP. Now he’ll try to amaze people once more and to knockout his rivals.
Tatiana Tarasova: He won’t knock out anyone today, he’ll just try to conquer himself, I think, especially after uesterday' successful skate. Yes, he will try to conquer himself.
Man: The music form the Japanese movie Seimei, composed by the Japanese composer Shigeru Umebayashi .
Man: No questions
TT: Grandiose (4S)
TT: Unimaginable beauty (4T) Such crystal clear quads.
TT: A difficult exit from the Flip (3F)…… He’s got unique legs. He can turn and raise them effortlessly. (When he was doing the Beilman.
TT: Very good STPSQ, with character.
TT: OOOH Bravo, Bravo 4T 3T in the second part!!
Man: It’s not the only jump that he’s going to have in the second part; he’s got lots of them comming up.
TT: Axel (3) and Toe Loop (2T) with raised hands, he’s always doing it so beautifully. When going to his training, there’re lots of interesting stuff to see. …. 3A 1Lo 3S
Man: There’s no way one can compete with him when he’s in this shape.
TT: Difficult entry to 3Lo. That’s so that no one would doubt who the Olympic champion is. The program has very beautiful components.
TT: Here’s his Ina Bauer. Like a beautiful ship. And in the end from the most difficult entry into the rotation. Bravo! Bravo!
Man: The man makes history.
TT: I’m so happy to see this! This IS the men’s figure skating! He gave all of himself to the performance. He’s got no more strength; he gave it all, all of it!
And Brian I’m very happy for him, he’s working very hard. He’s one of the hardest working coaches in the world, especially in the past years.
Man: 119 points for technique. This is just unimaginable! We became witnesses of another Fantastic, Phenomenal achievement of Yuzuru Hanyu. Now’s the first time in history when the points for FP will be more than 200, and of course all together 300 is the first time in the history.
TT: Yes this will be a world record as well. ………….. Both of them are very happy!
Man: Finally Hanyu is smiling. Most of times he doesn’t have enough strength to do that as he gives it all to the performances but now he’s not yet realizing what he’s done.
TT: He has grown, he’s very skinny. He was training a lot, he was working a lot. It can be seen that he is stronger. But as I said, when one goes to his training (in cricket or just before performances) one can see some unbelievable things. He does some stuff that no one else even thinks of. How he jumps in different ways, with hands up or apart. Also he’s doing some crazy stuff like jumping from difficult entries, always something new.
Man: He’s got some under rotations.
TT: So what. If they count them I will shame them! Shame on the judges that would count something like small under rotations in a performance like that. All best points should be given to the skater!
Man: No, no they didn’t count any under rotations.
TT: Thank God! It would be shameful to the judges if they did that. I haven’t seen anything. Everything was perfect.
TT: Every man makes his own destiny! I’m Very happy that I see the Olympic Champion grow so much, especially in such a short time. Many Many Many years will pass until someone will beat this score (my opinion, nagini I mean, is only if Yuzu doesn’t beat it again shortly).

Dutch gala comments: Yuzuru Hanyu skated the competition of his life here. Both his programs scored big world records, and he passed the 300 points as first man ever, thus taking over the world record from the Canadian Patrick Chan.
Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu is now officially the best figure skater ever. I think the programs skated here at Nagano will stay in the history books for a long time, and remain long in people's minds (more literally, in their eyes), and will often be viewed back on youtube. He really wrote history...

and then my recording stopped. *grumble*

edit: oh, we get a repeat tomorrow morning, two repeats, even, both on E1 and E2. They will probably include the whole Yuzu part again, so now I'll just set the recorder for a longer time and give it another try. :-)

I saw many tweets trending on my SNS today saying that this hakama that Yuzu is wearing is not from the designer, but rather his own family with his family crest - I guess that is the white circle thing on his sleeve.

The Hanyu's family crest :luv17: It's to make up for the ceremony he missed last year I think. A couple of major newspapers also printed the pictures [1] [2] [3] [4]

Yuzuru's WR made an appearance in South Korean newspapers [cr] Perhaps a kind soul could give us a summary?

I guess he had intentionally put a big pressure on himself by looking at that mark and telling himself " I am absolute King". (true OGM) According to this article and as he said that in the interview I think.

Just saw a piece of translation of what Yuzu said during his interview with Akiko. And yes, I believe that he reads comments in SNS.

This article is amazing:

I'm sorry if it was posted before, I have not read all last 20 pages yet, I just loved it and wanted to share .

So happy they showed the SP! And here it is! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYdmDViIcRs

I think the FS is automatically blocked in Japan and US by default on youtube. Here is an upload to DM: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3g4lz3 (will encode to HD)

Interview with Yuzuru and Satoko. There's also a small clip of an interview with Brian at 9:08, he still seemed overwhelmed by what Yuzu had done, but I couldn't agree more with what he said

Wow even Caroline Kennedy (JFK daughter and ambassador for Japan and U.S.) commented on Yuzu's performance. https://mobile.twitter.com/CarolineKennedy/status/671222199995334657

Apology if this has been posted already, but Oda-san gave a kentama to Hanyu-san, which is from a female champion of kentama who is a fan and heard that he likes kentama.

Someone needs a lesson taking selfie! (Glad to know he can relax and eat raw fish after a competition!)

NHK 2015 - Gala

Yuzuru Hanyu’s speech at NHK Trophy Gala (translated by yuzuland@tumblr)
“Have you all been enjoying [this exhibition]?
Thank you for those who came all the way to here, Nagano. Because of your support, we are able to continue competing in the sport of figure skating. We can practice in order to deliver a performance that can show you our growth. We wish our performances can touch your heart and make you feel something from it. I hope everyone had a great time [at this competition]. Thank you very much for today.
There are skaters who still have [Grand Prix] Final coming up, but please give a round of applause to every skater who gave it their all in this Grand Prix Series. Our journeys in figure skating are not ending here, please continue to support us this season and beyond. Thank you very much again and please come again!”

Not sure if anyone posted this already. It's a complete translation of his interview during the exhibition with Akiko.

There were many Yuzu moments at NHK, one of it is at the gala finale ending he bent down and said arigato to the boy (is he the novice national champ?) that he held hand with.

This is lovely isn't it? I wonder what kind of program he can do incorporating this.

NHK 2015 - Translations

Dutch eurosport gala comments (this time the full version):

Yuzuru Hanyu skated the competition of his life here.
He really wrote history, 27 points higher than the world record held by Patrick Chan, first man over the 300 points barrier, 322, which at the start of the season nobody would have believed possible, 3 quad jumps in his LP, 2 3As, difficult combinations, and all that connected beautifully with gorgeous transitions, beautiful choreography.
And of course Hanyu comes back for an encore to say thank you to the audience, who have been so supportive of him the whole weekend. He'll do a part from his LP.
Yuzuru Hanyu. And if you missed this LP yesterday, do check it out in the repeat, check your TV guide, or if you can't, check it out on the internet, and definitely watch the GPF in two weeks' time, where all the men will be battling it out. At SA Hanyu lost against Patrick Chan , but if Hanyu can keep this form, then Patrick Chan won't be able to match him (literally: then also Patrick Chan won't be able to do it), but who knows, maybe this has woken them all up.

Note: these Dutch commentators really are very "casual" about it all. We have a saying here, "Behave normally, then you already behave crazy enough", which just really comes to mind when I listen to these people. I'll take the British enthusiasm over these two, any day.

Morozombie has just updated his list of best performances in GPs, you know who places 1 and 2 : http://morozombie.blogspot.com/2015/11/stuff-i-like-grand-prix-2015-part-i.html

People are saying that Yuzu’s family crest looks like originated from The Azai clan (浅井氏 Azai-shi), which was a line of daimyo (feudal lords) during Japan’s Sengoku period that was based in Ōmi Province (present day Shiga Prefecture).

The Azai clan, along with the Asakura clan, opposed Oda Nobunaga in the late 16th century. They were defeated by him at the Battle of Anegawa in 1570, and all but eliminated when their home castle, Odani Castle, was taken three years later.
(From Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azai_clan#)

If so, Yuzu and Nobu (descendent of the Oda family) really have a long story to tell.

More pics of the azai clan family crest and Yuzu's clothes.

In yesterday's news (I guess TV asahi night news), there was special interview done by Matsuoka. I missed it, but it seems to be very interesting. I hope someone will upload the clip.
As I saw the partial clip, Yuzu was so unhappy about the result of the SC. It explains a lot about his thought behind changing the layout. The best part was while waiting at the rinkside before the award ceremony, P Chan said "Congratulations" and Yuzu also said "Congratulations!! " and added also " but, I will be at the top of the podium, next time(we meet)!!".
He probably said that with that angelic smile I imagine, but I would be scared if I were P Chan:luv17:

I somehow like the way he doesn't hold back his true feeling. He is very polite in almost all aspect, but he is like different person when it comes to competition. Very amusing, bit childish in someway. He loves competing with the true rivals.

I think this is the interview :)

If so, Yuzu and Nobu (descendent of the Oda family) really have a long story to tell.

That is really interesting....Asakura, where have I heard of that family name? Sounds really familiar to me :scratch3:

This is the best thing ever :) these gifs illustrate Yuzu so perfectly I feel

Lovely interview! He is always extra honest when doing an interview with Matsuoka. Aside from the episode at SC and Patrick, he also said that this time, Boyang's SP score is the one that fired him up. He said he hate it when he wins because someone else failed to perform their best. When he heard 95 points from Boyang, he thought, "Yes! Here it comes!", knowing that Boyang went no-miss in his SP. He said that he wants to be No.1 when everyone performed their best.

No way . So, after all this time a revolutionary clan comes back to life? And, stands on the top?

I can't find the video on DM any more, but in a studio interview after NHK, Yuzu told Nobu that "the enemy is not at Honnoji." (where Oda Nobunaga was assassinated). So I guess bygones are bygones. :p

I just want to say that "Yuzuru, you are a great hero in my heart! I admire your fearless fighting spirits and unrivaled skating talents! Good luck to you at the GPF!"

Yeah,I watched that video already. Just feeling the history there. But now these two are very good friends. I can see Yuzu really likes teasing Nobu. They are fun together. And actually, I found on wiki that Azai Nagamasa married Nobunaga Oda's sister who was a famous beauty that time.
