Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

I hope they take it very slowly. I would imagine just stroking on the ice, feeling edges etc., would be the way to begin as that is how you would feel pressure on the foot (weight shifts etc) and notice any pain. I would think it would take time to get the foot used to it again... both feet for that matter... I wonder if it is like starting over. Well, he will be getting a great chance to really "feel" the ice and improve ss before he starts elements. Take that time, yuzu... slow and steady wins the race.

Anyone please explain to me what is this? Another competition right after 4CC and Yuzuru MUST do it? http://this.kiji.is/118269133154387448
I don't understand why, this set up is too tight. If he wins National again he has to go to this competition and skip 4CC again?? But this 4CC is important because it will happen in Olympic arena??

From what i know that is the asian winter games. And as far as i know they never send their top skaters there. But if Japan is the host they would probably want yuzuru to attend to fill seats. I bet both yuzuru and shoma would prefer to attend 4CC instead.

I don't see anywhere in that article mentioned that Yuzu goes by default. Shoma is the best too. There are a few bests in Japan
it seems they might pass a rule that National champ might be sent to that Asian Game. Kobayashi said: "I know athlete want to do 4cc next year because it will be in the same venue with olympic, but I want the best athletes for asian game" or so.
I am super PUZZLED by this. Is it official or not? 4CC this season is wayyy more important!

Well, she sure understands the meaning of testing the Oly arena so... I assume Fed will think hard and take a wise decision that would benefit skaters best interests, including country's interests that are not only focused on Asian Games after all.;)

She said that? This seems to be a weird decision. Not just because of 4CC being an olympic test event, but their athletes need to be in top condition for worlds 2017 to get that 3 spots in the olympic. Asada, Ando and Takahashi never went to asian winter games, they usually send those not in the special list right? I don't know why yuzuru and/or shoma have to go. Moreover, yuzuru just recovered from a serious injury so... :confused2:

This article says that Ms. Kobayashi said the skaters' intentions will also be considered. Hopefully the top finishers at Nationals will be able to choose which competition they'd like to skate at. According to another article, they're sending 2 men and 2 ladies to Asian Winter Games.

You know, the Team Japan has Takahito Mura and Daisuke Murakami who both have been quite impressive during the latest quad so I don't think there should be a huge problem in sending two different teams to 4CC and Asian Winter Games. All of Team Japan top men skaters deserve to get the chance to represent their country on these events in their best shape possible. I just want to repeat what I've said before- wise decision should be made. Not wearing out their athletes but giving them all the chance to add value where and when it's possible.

I think what they're interested in is not about winning but drawing people's attention to the competition they're holding in their country. So they probably would REALLY need Yuzuru but no other to compete. I just hope that he won't be forced to participate...

kobayashi confirmed the assignment will be based on skaters' willingness as well. I think there is nothing to worry about.

I think in Men's FS it is. Nobody besides these two has done it in my memory (starting from the 80's).

In Ladies, on the other hand, it seems to be the rule rather than the exception. Katarina Witt, Kristi Yamaguchi, Oksana Baiul, Tara Lipniski, Sarah Hughes, Yu-na Kim and Adelina Sotnikova all won gold at their first Olympics. Only Shizuka Arakawa won OGM at her 2nd OG in my memory.

In pair skating it's also common, although there are more exceptions. Gordeeva/Grinkov, Mishkutyonok/Dmitriev, Oksana Kazakova and Tatiana Volosozhar won OGM at their first Olympics - as opposed to Berezhnaya/Siharulidze, Totmianina/Marinin, Shen/Zhao and Maksim Trankov.

But in ice dance it's the rarest of all. Only Virtue/Moir won OGM at their first Olympics in my memory.

I did some research and there has only been 5 of them and one of them (Salchow) was because it was the first time figure skating was added to the Olympics. Dick Button is also part of that select group
I am so happy to hear that Yuzu is back on the ice now. It doesn't matter if he is not jumping yet, as long as there's progress and he is still healing. I hope he doesn't push himself too hard to make up for the time he lost on rehab, we want you healthy, Yuzu!

If JSF forces their national champs to compete at Asian winter games, I think we may see skaters lose national on purpose, so they can skip Asian winter games.

ETA: Every skater prefers 4cc over Asian winter games. If the rule states the national champ must compete at Asian winter games, it will create a perverse incentive. Skaters will compete at national to lose, rather than compete to win.

Wooooooow! Yuuuuuuuuuzu! I'm so glad this news. Our prayers were answered. Thank God! Thank you all for information and links. Please Yuzu, do not be in a hurry and use your wisdom to heal completely. We are praying and cheering for you, but could you give us a clue about the songs you have selected, so that we stay mad trying to figure out their costumes and the layout of their programs.

I really enjoyed the "Tiny Agent 330" and thought this song for him while we can dream.

i can understand it with yuzu case. figure skating is not so major sport here compared with football or baseball. but yuzu is different. his news about his condition in May got top news in yahoo japan and even my family member who doesnt have the interest in figure skating knew that. its ridiculous. definitely media want his news so much, but it seems yuzu side tries not to reveal it to prevent unnecessary fuss and i find keeping silent makes sense considering the situation in japan.

I think there'd be fuss in any case. The only difference is if it'll be fuss based on rumors and anxiety or on facts.

Well, another way to look at it is that there will probably be pressure either from sponsor/organizer/federation for him to attend ice shows had they know he had started skating. So his team probably prefer to not give out many details on his condition. He is kind of behind in program choreography schedule anyway. Especially seeing how today we received news that he is back on ice and the next following news is that there is a possibility of him skipping 4CC for Asian winter games :slink:
