Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

Btw I think I caught Yuzu clapping for Liza after she made the candilever in the gala. Perhaps they were choosing who it should be though it would have been amazing to see them do SBS candilevers. Coming to think of it, SC developed in similar ways for both of them

What happened was that Jeremy Ten was choreographing the finale and he asked "can anyone do the candilever? Yuzu, can you?" So then he did it. Then Liza said she knows how to do it too and did it. Jeremy then said "Sorry Yuzu I love you but I'm gonna go with her" Hanyu-san then jokingly kicked at the ice to demonstrate he is not happy.

Hi! First post in this thread and my second post overall just because I read something that made me go: "What?" Actually I've been a figure skating fan since like I was 5, (now late 20's) and I grew up watching A LOT of skaters, so I'm rather picky. I was more fond of following ladies' skating because I'm a woman myself and I've always wanted to skate (But live in a place with extremely hot weather, so no ice rinks or anything for us lol) And really never gave a lot of chance to male skating. Still I had my favorites while growing, like Yagudin, Lambiel, (even I liked Plushenko in his early years, I think he has a lot of charisma). But then Yuzuru appears and it was like someone said somewhere: magnetic. I don't get how some people can say we are not real figure skating fans because we like his skating. (Really that post really seemed like it was some kind of trolling or something) I try to be neutral because I know everything is a matter of tastes, and well, you can't dictate what people can like or what they can't. But just because you don't like Yuzurus' work and you like someone else, doesn't mean he isn't good or makes him less deserving than your favorites, or that we as fans are blind, I mean that "Blindness" can apply to any fan! So using that excuse is lame.

I'm sorry, had to shake that bad feeling off...

ANYWAYS, I barely paid attention to other male skaters since like 2008 until 2013... I wanted to see an overall package and I think Yuzuru is the only one who can do it for my tastes. He's the only male skater from these recent years who has made me excited for competitions. I absolutely love how his jumps seem so fluid, (I just can't with those skaters who land a jump and hold their arms up stiff like a statue, sorry) and I really like his artistry. He makes me actually feel he loves to skate and he is someone who doesn't give up and does his best. He is not perfect all the time, but when he manages to do everything as he wants, he takes everyone's breath away and nobody can't deny it. Compared to last season he is stronger, for me he just needs more condition to bear with this program, but I don't see how he can't do it, he's still young. I'mglad he hasn't peaked at this moment, we are just starting the season. I think I got really passionate here guys, I'm sorry hahaha but I was a lurker and loved the positivity and the vibes of this thread, and I thought It was good to participate for the first time. I will be reading often and try to give my views too!

The Russians are the last ones that should be complaining about scoring, just saying.

I know right, but in this case they're not that bad because they have no contender at Skate Canada. So I take their words more serious this time. Overall I am ok with the placement. However I am annoyed that some people automatically think that Yuzuru's fans are not FS true fans or those who disagree with the scores are not true FS fans.

Actually, I'm more than happy and satisfied that yuzu got a silver after his saddening and disappointing short! I was super worried about him not getting onto the podium before the fs, but he did us proud didn't he?

Lols!!! I think the former reason sounded more reasonable? Though I do agree that flattened insects might have a fluid coming out which would be slippery but definitely not as slippery as the ice itself? Idk.....

Yeah! When they talked about Hanyu's tendency to be lax when jumping is very true, for me I personally love his 'floppy' style lol, but you know what they always say... a person's strength can also lead to their weakness! This actually would apply to Chan too because his style is a lot more refined and perfect but some might find that a bit more 'artificial'? Anyway it really depends on yourself at the end of the day :thumbsup:

some people here will throw stones at you for mentioning the word floppy, jk I agree completely, I also don't like much the stifness, you mentioned Patrick, but for example in Gracie Gold I see it as even more glaring, I see fluidity in Patrick from the waist down (SS of course), sometimes even in his upper body but not in every program. He's not favourite because of other aspects, I think. But overall I think I prefer fluidness too, hence why we are all in the Yuzuru bandwagon.

i love stones... :gclap: let's not discuss Gracie shall we... those arms... but yeah Patrick is 'stiff' or 'refined' in the good way because he has essentially mastered the sport! Stiffness can be good like Mao Asada she isn't 'stiff' per se but she is/was a ballerina and her lines are great (definitely not a Hanyu skater lol)

But yeah, I think Hanyu is really a unique skater. I haven't seen such a fluid or 'floppy' skater before and when I do find a floppy skater... boy the arms... so awkward

Random Question: Has any other skater received a +3 GOE more than once? I know Patrick's got a +3 once. Because Skate Canada's SP marks the 3rd time Yuzu has gotten a +3 GOE for his triple axel!

I did watch the performances of both. I’m not an expert of skating. I’m mainly seeing this from the perspective of mechanism design, so that the rules/judging can be fair and at the same time encourage technical progression. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me. Here is my reasoning.

Thank you for always providing such objective and reasonable opinions. I'm very pleased with the placement (this time) and don't care much for the rest (score or whatever), but it's always interesting to know more about this scoring system, it's just fascinating to me am i weird?

Requiem of Heaven and Earth... I can't say I love it yet (I still prefer Believe) but it does give off a very special vibe, like it's his own show or something... The emotion...

Yep, in my opinion I think Yuzuru is special because for most of the floppy skaters it works against them but for him sometimes it actually goes in his favor, I don't know how he does it. You can feel what he wants to convey, it's not perfect, it's not Chan-like controled by any means but it's so there, while with some controled skaters sometimes their presentation come across because of their basics and their polish but it doesn't feel very truthful if you dig very deep. And on the other hand with all the other floppy skaters it just falls flat but with Yuzuru it's so desperate that he grabs the attention of some people. You just can't ignore it, so he stands out. He's a 'special floppy skater'. Lol His all of nothing attitude is interesting at least for me and what makes the most out of his performances. He can be an awkward little lamb sometimes with arms everywhere and nowhere at the same time, but he can also come out and be wonderful and fluid, pretty on the ice or just go wild into those jumps like it's no ones business and throw the house down, plus the FAAAACE he gives is everything, let's be real.

Still, he's kind of a love it or hate it skater, that can throw a ton of people off you know, skating purists. because he has almost 'unreachable' goals that can label him as some kind of crazy, so it's difficult for some people understand why he does this, they tend to just label him as some kind of cold strategist that just jumps and wants all the points, points, points. When it's so much more than that. Well, I love the crazy ones, I can't help it

The time zone will probably kill me when it comes to COC, but I look forward to it :hopelessness:

^Agreed. Hanyu is not a skater for skating purists, that's Chan, whose skating is polished to perfection. Hanyu is a emotional skater and there will always be a raw element to his skating that will never disappear, no matter how much years he spends polishing his skating. It's the same raw quality that makes him so magnetic. Even when Hanyu crashes and burns, he's mesmerizing to watch. When he's on, I just want to jump up and down and scream in excitement.

It is indecent to make such comment here. Russians or non-Russians are all entitled to speak their mind on any contentious skating topic. Whether you care about or totally disagree on it is another matter.

Ha ha just forget it, something from the Olympic. But it does not matter. My point is the Russians and Italians they have no contender at Skate Canada, and their reactions' at SC are not teen reaction. They are skaters, coaches, sport reporters etc... and since I happen to be a member of their facebook and Vk community, I have seen how they think about SC. I am not member of other communities so I can't tell. But anyways my point is there are professionals who don't agree with SC. Of course if you agree with the scores there is no problem.
My friend's coach is one of the judges in the ice dance event at SC this season anyways. He was there and he texted me non-stop about how furious he was because of the scores.

But in the end, it doesn't matter much as to me, the placement is ok. I am thrilled to see that Yuzuru has not peaked yet and there is huge room to improve. Nothing better than watching his improvement from competition to competition, both in skills, mentality and his body condition. :2thumbs:
