I am also curious as Brian didn't even mention Nam. CJH is amazing, but could it be that he thinks Nam wouldn't be a strong contender in 2022? idk :scratch2: I'm confused lol

I think this is an interview by Chinese media (i.e. Asian media), isn't it?
Then, it might be the reason why he mentioned Cha Jun-hwan, not Nam (just my guess though) :ohwell:.

I don't like the idea of limiting the number of quads. As I don't like the people criticizing Boyang Jin (and sometimes Yuzu) for being just a jumper and nothing else. After all, if a skater wants to be a jumper, approaching the sport by the pure technical and athletic side, why couldn't he. Some skaters are not comfortable with the artistic side and wil never be, so how could we refuse them to show their strong points ? I like the magic of skating being an art and a sport. I love deeply emotional performances just like athletic achievements, and I like to see both of them.
And relating to the risk of quads, some skaters may be "reckless" but their teams are not, and skating can be dangerous in lots of aspects (see where Gabriella's bad choctaw brought her...)
But again, it's just my opinion. :)

I agree with you on Jin Boyang. Also, people criticizing him seem to forget that last year he was still a junior! This is his first season on the men's field and we have to give him time to grow and become more comfortable with himself. A lot of the skaters now weren't perfect when they first came up from the junior league. Like, not everyone is "gifted" artistically and the fact that Jin Boyang is getting so much criticism for being athletic in a SPORT is annoying. They criticize Jason Brown for not having his jumps all there, they criticism Jin Boyang for not having his artistry all there. Not everyone can be a perfect, well rounded skater 100% of the time.

I really hate the idea of them trying to limit skaters who are able to do more, who can push their limits. I get that they don't want it to become a jumping competition, but if you want to call figure skating a sport you have to let them jump. Inhibiting the jumpers to make it more fair or to keep the sport "refined" is total bs in my honest opinion. Skaters like Yuzuru want to challenge themselves and I just find the whole thing dumb.

sorry for the rant :dbana:

:thank:

To break up the bickering, we're on page 1989! We're definitely going to get to 2000 pages before the GPF at this rate lol.

Even before NHK ... +Chan competing at TEB this week will take back some debates... Wait: they never stoped ? :gaah: ;)

Well, but Jun-hwan is from South-Korea - nothing to do with China... Maybe Brian just accidentally forgot Nam in his mind.

As for Yuzu's career plan, I support him. Take that gold in 2018 and happily retire!! We can still see him in ice shows afterwards.

LOL. I've been following the men's GP threads, and there was endless debate first for SA, then SC, then CoC. They actually overlapped! It was pretty amusing.

All - thanks for all the links and translations. Great information. And of course the adverts are lovely (especially the Phiten one!).

:thank:

Thank you all for links and information. This Forum is a true knowledge and learning space.

Dear all, first of all I would like to express my gratitude to links, comments, information, and etc. that are provided by you guys. you are amazing:clapper:, I have been enjoying reading this thread and l like it more and more. So, as a long time lurker, I have braced myself to send a post here.
Yuzu , with his asthma problem, will always face a challenge in his stamina. If we look at his isu bio , we may find that he actually practises for 12-14 hours per week only , as compared to others who will have at least 25 hours /per week , some even have more than 30 hours . So, with a shorter training time ( probably he would done more if physical condition permits) and yet he can manage his competition and even medaled. I find it amazing, it is like knowing you are at a worse condition and still keep on , throwing in all you might, venturing the possibilities, this fighting spirit has inspired me . Knowing the odds, and still try harder , work harder, and made every competition a possiblity to win, this is the Yuzu that I know and I salute him from the bottom from my heart.
I will definitely say " I do "

Yes. I'm a fan who admires, respects and loves this skater unconditionally.

Welcome to new members.

Well, regarding the quads and Jin's matter, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

To change subject, I wouldn't like it if Yuzu comes back to CoC before 2018 again. He's been there twice, and only to Skate America and Trophée Eric Bompard once. It would be nice to have him going to all GP events twice before 2018, imo, though the choice of GP events is something hard to understand as it's between the ISU, federations, organizers, skaters, etc... :) Except if he wants to try to win as many different GPs as possible if he does retire after 2018. In this case, coming back to CoC is something to consider, as he "only" (though only is not really appropriate coz winning a GP is a great achievement itself) won NHK and Rostelecom.

I don't think that Yuzu cares about that. It seems like NHK is a must and SC or SA are the nearest to his training base, so the choice is not that hard for him. But sometimes I wish that there would be a rule that forbid a skater to compete at the same event for example twice in a row...

About something Orser said in the interview caught my eye: that he coaches Jun Hwan Cha. I thought I recognized the name from past seasons so I looked him up and wow, he's like a mini-Yuzu. He resembles young Yuzu so much both in appearance and skating, he's got similar emotional expressiveness to his movement, it's eerie! I like him already, I hope he'll fill the Yuzu-shaped void once Yuzu retires.:luv17:

The pool of talent in Orser's stable is astonishing.
