Praising article on Inside Skating "Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu enters history. Again."

I love the title choice

Such a great article! Thanks for sharing it! :agree:

It's only been a day since Yuzu broke the SP world record and I'm still giddy in excitement over it! What a great weekend to watch figure skating~ :yay: I hope he stays calm, continue the competitive fire and do well in the FS too.

Some of my favourite quotes from the article:

In Yuzuru Hanyu’s own words: “At a certain point, I felt I had to include two quads in the short program. As the Olympic champion, I felt that it is necessary, as I prepare for the 2018 Olympics”.

As we’ll remember them, Yuzuru Hanyu and Brian Orser, in the Kiss and Cry, applauding one another. In the end, a symbolic image: the coach taking a bow in front of his student – what a day this has been.

FS practice today SEIMEI:4S(Excellent),4T(OK),3F(Easy),2T (:(),3A3T(Great),3A1LO3S(Excellent),Skipped 3LO,3LZ(Great), So other than 4T2T became 2T, everything else looks wonderful.
Spend ~8min on step seq, talked to BO for a min than warm up with 1LO,3LO,3LZ3T,3LZ,3A,3A1LO3S,4T(Lean forward),4T,4T3T,4S

Nams excited too https://twitter.com/namnamnoodle/status/670209822235717632?s=07

It seems he is also doing major changes to his sp, meaning HE IS CHANGING THE WHOLE THING (he is going back to sinnerman) it seems they both were seriously thinking about the SP when the got back from SC.

Judging by the time he tweeted that, he seemed to have watched the competition live (which was like 4 am or so for him). Such a supportive teammate

6 quads in a single session? Someone seems to be excited, though after yesterday, who wouldn't? thank you for sharing

The favorite part of the peformance: 1) the crazy ax killer eyes at the end. As somebody said, "face of an angel, eyes of a murderer" lol.

My favorite part of the whole thing might be the video cutting from his end pose fierce 'serial killer yuzu' face to his off ice smiley face in the KnC.

IPlease, could anyone translate Yuzuru's words after his SP? Thank you! :)
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3fs5bx_yuzuru-hanyu-nhktrophy-sp_sport

Interview after SP was summerized in the article and mikaboo provided us with the translation!
(The article below includes one part of the interview of the video.)

I was just at it not knowing if anybody would be interested :)
Let me know if anyone finds any mistakes. I don't think I was able to understand some parts.

---------
Thoughts after performance
- In one word, there's still tomorrow. I've never skated (the SP) without making mistakes so everybody was really worried for me. I appreciate the powerful way they supported me. Tbh, it was fun.

Regarding Boyang Jin's high score
- I heard the announcement in Japanese so I knew what it was but it didn't concern me. There are things that (only) I'm able to do. I was able to skate with excitement, without being concerned about making mistakes. It wasn't perfect but I landed all the jumps. I'm capable of doing more.

Regarding the changed elements
- I'm still planning to change the entry and landing of the 4S that would earn more GOE. I want to improve its execution. It was the first time in a while that I've been able to challenge it in a relaxed manner. It was not planned for this season. The program has become a totally different program. This was the first time I jumped the 4-3 in competition. If everything went well, I was going to include it in the latter half of the FS. I'm glad I could do it without mistakes. (In the near future) I want to do include the quad in the 2nd half.

What kind of training have you been doing
- I've been doing intense and hard training.

What made you decide on changing the elements
- I thought that I'd have to include 2 quads in the SP some day to win. I'd have to do the jumps with difficult entries, landings, steps, spins, skating with total focus until the end before I go to PyeongChang. To win consecutively as an OGM, I have to be predominantly strong. I haven't reached my goal yet.

Regarding the new world record
- I thought I have to be surprised by it (not sure what he means here). It's been a while since I got a score over 100 and score-wise, people might think that Hanyu is back. I was able to execute elements of highest difficulty that I'm currently capable of.

About the new senior skaters
- Starting with Uno-senshu, a lot of wonderful skaters have come up (from junior). I'm only 20 years old but I'm treated like an old man. When I'm competing with Mura-senshu, I don't think like "he's my senpai" but more like "I'm definitely going to beat him". I haven't been able to include the 4lz yet. I want to tell Jin-senshu that I'm studying him.

Are 2 quads in the SP necessary?
There are skaters who can do them, and there are skaters who can't. If I were asked if they are definitely necessary, then "definitely" is not the answer. I was able to score over a 100 with 1 quad. If I went with 2, I'd have nothing to lose. I wish to do more than quads (something in addition to quads?).

Any memories of 1998 Nagano Olympics?
- It was before I started skating so I don't remember much. I don't remember the Olympics then.

Thoughts for the FS
- I want to focus, enjoy, and do what I'm capable of doing to my full potential. I want to enjoy the feeling of joy after the SP and go about it in a relaxed manner.

Nice closing sentence for the article. I also love the hug and Yuzu holding Brian's hand up I thought it's sweet. :2thumbs:

Praying and hoping that all these positives, excitement, and energy will carry on to his performance today. Best of luck, Yuzu, you can do it! :cheer:

Does anyone know how many hours after FS start is Yuzuru skating? I'm almost falling asleep at my comp.

Saw that NHK accidentally(?) showed him using his inhaler yesterday during backstage warm-up. I know he and his team is on top of his health situation but I still got a little worried tbh.

Anyways sending good vibes and hope that he has a good FS as well! :agree2:

I caught that too, when he was in the warm up area sitting on his matt. But I guess that performance showed us he's in top shape, I didn't see him too tired afterwards either, though that may have been adrenaline :)

Do you mind sharing which video is it?
And yes I think it's more of a precaution like the other have said.. but I understand I mean he'll never fail to leave us worrying even if it's just a little bit.

Btw, my 100th post!! I'm finally 'on the ice'! :yay:

Hopefully this is like a lucky post.. I'm feeling pretty good so sending Yuzu the positive energy. Hopefully he'll be able to perform well and feel satisfied! :cheer:

Russian commentary...can any one do a basic translation?

Rough Translation. I'm gonna work on mistakes later.

Man: So Yuzuru Hanyu, Olympic champion.
Tatiana Tarasova: He works very well now, practices a lot. It’s not enough yet but he’s becoming a professional.
Man: So let’s see how Yuzuru will answer to the challenge.
TT: 4S Bravo took it out and straight into a difficult position.
TT: Great jump. 4 & 3. This is the first time we see him do 2 quads.
Man: People say that he did change it. And that’s what he does, shows us the 2 quads, in the SP I mean.
TT: From the amazingly difficult entry he does the axel. ......The hands with the music are just amazing, exactly intact. Truth is, the program itself is great, just makes one stand up. It suits him very well and he feels it well.
All the elements and STPSQ and the turns, all difficult.
Man: Yuzuru is Goood, very very good.
TT: Simply the King!
Man: I have a feeling that we’ll see a new record. He’ll beat his own record. 101.45 and it will be beaten well, very well. That’s what means an Olympic champion. He just saw how everyone else skated and towards where the Men Figure Skating is heading and he answered. Answered with a statement!
TT: I bet there’ll be about 110. I’m very happy that they decided to keep this program because I didn’t have enough of it. I wanted to see exactly what I saw now, an interpretation, impersonation of Chopins' music.
Man: When I look at his face sometimes I’m worried for his health as he’s just giving all of himself to it, you know, just like the actors sometimes are actually living in the role.
TT: He’s got a bit of under rotation but I doesn’t matter.
Man: Well they did give him a bit more for the salcho.
TT: Well you gotta be an Olympic champion to get some extra points.
Man: Yes, yes one can’t be just a newbie. Hanyu shows that when he’s in the mood you can’t fight with him, no matter who you are, Chan or someone else.
TT: He was very focused. He’s just gotta get a bit tougher. You see the entry to the salcho, it’s the most difficult one, from the turn he does the axel. There’s no more difficult way to enter a jump especially one that’s as complicated as the axel.
Man: We gotta give him the credit. He’s beating everyone.
TT: Truth is, he was born for this. His legs are long and he is very flexible.
Man: OOO 106.33, It’s not 110 but it’s great! 5 points over the previous record. Though Kovtun and Menshov are in the second group but with this Yuzuru, no one has a chance.
TT: What with this Yuzuru, he’s got nothing with this, our guys just have to get out there and skate. As well Yuzu has 40kg together with the boots, our guys gotta lose some weight first and then they’ll be able to jump like that!
Man: Yuzuru Hanyu is the first! With a Gigantic difference!
TT: There’s nothing to say! People a crying, from shock and Amazement!
