Well Taipei is a good place for Yuzu. Its the place where he won his first senior international medal at 4CC 2011 ;)
 
I like to imagine this is what goes on when the organizers for NHK have to decide on the flowers for the winners:

"What color should we go with for the bouquets this year?"
"...I don't know-- what color is Yuzuru Hanyu's costume?"

Because honestly, looking at pictures of Yuzu on the podium, that bouquet matches his costume perfectly.

I don't know for sure, but didn't Yuzu get the flu sometime during/after 2013 4CC? The Olympics he actually did well for all his SP, but I think the pressure and the late schedule for the men after the SP made everyone tired. 2015 WC... well that was more health related and lack of training time.

I think if Worlds wasn't in North America I think he'd definitely go to 4CC which is in Taipei. As it is he'd be traveling back and forth from Asia and Canada if he goes to 4CC, and there's about a month between 4CC and Worlds so he may opt out if he wants to stay in Canada to train for Worlds (I remember being exhausted from jet lag after being in Asia for 2.5 weeks). We'll just have to wait and see what he and his team decides. Anyone have any idea how the JSF decides who goes to 4CC? I assumed they give first choice to those that are selected for Worlds, and if they decline they select other skaters.

2) Yuzuru Hanyu, NHK Trophy SP (Ballade No. 1)
Writing a top 10 Grand Prix performances list without including Yuzuru Hanyu's performances at the NHK Trophy this season is like discussing Hamlet without actually mentioning Hamlet. So here we are. The 4S sandwiched by spread eagles was astonishing, as was the intricacy of the choreography, and not to mention, the sheer speed and flow throughout the program. Moreover, the stillness and precision Mr. Hanyu conveyed with his movements was such a stunning contrast to his wild, ragged wet noodle days. And to think, when I first found out that Mr. Hanyu's intended SP jump layout for NHK included a second quad, I had scoffed and thought, "HAHAHA, fool." As it turns out, however, the fool was not Yuzuru Hanyu.

What superlatives can I use to describe this performance that haven't already been used? Put simply, Mr. Hanyu gave an incredible, world record-obliterating performance at NHK. Even in my slightly delirious, sleep-deprived state in the middle of the night, it was exhilarating to watch. It was also, quite plausibly, one of the greatest men's long programs ever performed. What is your favorite moment of this performance? Mine is watching how silent the audience gets as Mr. Hanyu sets up for his final 3Lz, as if the crowd was collectively holding their breath--then the roar of the audience upon its realization that Mr. Hanyu did indeed nail the final lutz. Watching this performance, I now know how Victor Hugo Morales must have felt as he watched Diego Maradona score the immortal Goal of the Century against England on that fateful day on June 22, 1986--Hanyu, en una corrida memorable, en la jugada de todos los tiempos . . . That's not always true... he came in 3rd at his first worlds without going to 4cc (last competition was nationals)... the year he went to 4cc before worlds (2013), he underperformed (at least for his standards) at worlds. I honestly believe it would be a lot better for Yuzuru to rest after nationals and train in preparation for worlds instead of going to 4cc.

Thanks for the link! In the 4 months I temporarily stopped watching figure skating I've almost forgotten how much I love morozombie's blog posts :)
 
I had a really weird dream last night. I don't remember most of it, only that I was watching a figure skating competition. And that in the end the commentator said something like "Oh boy, bad day at the office for Hanyu. Only 290 points in total. That's way, way below his personal best."
I woke up like :roll9: :laugh2: man, I wish I would suck so badly more often

I also saw Yuzu in dream last night, he was sitting on the floor of a huge room and around him he had mountain of gold medals. More like its Yuzu's best dream :handw: :laugh2:
 
I was so lucky yesterday. I got home just in time to see NBC broadcast the SP and then his FS too. Seeing it in HD on a big screen is such a treat. I can only imagine the feeling those of you lucky enough to have see him live feel.

What went down at NHK was something special. :yes2:

My best moments:
- His fierce face at the end of SP
- His fists sawed after 3 Lutz and arena screams
- Your lovely smile at the end of FS
- K & C Yuzu, Brian and Pooh. Memorable. Very beautiful.

Absolutely agree with gsyzf here, I believe going to 4CC will only benefit him as it is the same time as Olympics, also it will help him to keep his competitive mindset for Boston. I don't think he has to come back to Japan for interviews and he isn't that weak not to handle traveling. JSF will Choose Him and shoma for sure , but decision will be up to him imo.

he really lacks that 4cc gold tbh :biggrin:

As a Taiwanese Yuzu fan who lives in Taipei and willing to travel to other countries just to see Yuzu skate, I hope he can come to 4CC in Feb. 2016.
