Ok, after watching it like 6 times, I think I caught it at 2:31 I wouldn't have noticed if someone had not mentioned it!

I am terrible, did not notice despite watching many times and worst, even after both have pointed out, I still can't see what went wrong at 2:11. I can see the slight movement to adjust his sleeve at 2:31

LOL I thought it's so cute how he just dropped down wide-eyed pointing the screen excitedly to Brian like he couldn't believe his eyes. :luv17:

And that's such a nice article~

Oh and I think that piece of clothing came off *very small wardrobe malfunction* after his first spin (or maybe during that) somehow.. but good job on handling it well. :agree:

I read it is about M4.6, even though it is not big hope everything is ok.

Is Yuzu staying back in Japan and go to GPF (8 days from now) directly?

From someone who lives in a highly seismic area, you barely feel a 4.6 earthquake, if you can feel anything at all :)

And I would be surprised is he decided to stay in Japan before the GPF. He needs to try to keep this peak condition, keep the momentum going, and finish polishing a the new SP layout. And the best way to do it is under his coaching team.

He most likely will stay in Japan before GPF. There are only two weeks between NHK and GPF. If he goes back to Canada, then goes to Spain, he will lose a whole week of training due to travel and jet lag. I think he will go back to Japan after the GPF, to compete in national for the same reason. He will only go back to Canada after national.

It's actually less than 2 weeks.

More like 10 days, from Monday 30th Nov after NHK... to first offical practice in Barcelona on Wednesday 9th and Mens SP on Thursday 10th.

Take another day or two for travelling etc... and it's just 8-9 days between the two competitions. So I agree, I don't think it makes sense to go back to Canada and then back to Europe (more days lost to travelling, and two jet-lags instead of one?)

If Yuzuru achieved everything and still have time left before retirement age. He should try this layout in FS.

4Lz
4F
4Lo
4S
4T
3A+1Lo+3S
3Lz+3T
3F+3Lo

I called this the 'ELEVEN ORPHANS'. (akin to the mahjong hand called Thirteen Orphans).
All jumps are quads and triples (except for the 1Lo), and no jump is repeated.

Advantage: No risk of zayaking if any quads turn into triple.

And I found the video of it

Here is the CBC Podcast by PJ & Kurt on Yuzu's skate at NHK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grSbeqnEwaM

I didn't upload the whole segment because I think CBC is quite strict on their podcast and some of my clips got removed before so hopefully this one will stay available for a little longer.

Beware: Yuzuru looks very cool in the blue Kimono.

Magazines, Pictures & Other

This is the best thing ever these gifs illustrate Yuzu so perfectly I feel

The Hanyu's family crest It's to make up for the ceremony he missed last year I think. A couple of major newspapers also printed the pictures [1] [2] [3] [4]

Yuzuru's WR made an appearance in South Korean newspapers [cr] Perhaps a kind soul could give us a summary?

His book was also the 13th highest selling photobook (?) of 2015 [cr]

Haha I just saw this tweet from @iFigureSkatingc. Hanyu is cheating on Pooh

This Chinese fan must have seen the future with their crystal ball They gave a breakdown of his scores if he was completely clean back in July and they were only 2 points off the correct total! 1 point short from both the FS and SP

Judges Table Blog Covers NHK. They of course picked Yuzu as highlight of the competition

So did A Divine Sport Blog, which usually covers Pairs Skating!

A fan managed to take a picture of the SO from skaters/coaches after he landed his lutz

I was looking for this news clip (about a judge cried after Yuzu's performance) for my friend too and here it is:

It was Monday's broadcast from Asahi TV's Wide Scramble, the particular segment you're looking for is at 22:42 of the newsclip.

"OK, in this case, please make the setting 'a person of double personality'."

"Choose!? Do you mean I have to choose!? It's.....something like 'Dead or Alive'...."

I just realized that during his step sequence in the free, the string that was suppose to hold down his sleeve came right off and he had to take a moment to fix it. He did a good job turning that into choreography. I didn't even catch him doing that.

Did he skated into Domo? He was having a lot of fun with the mascot

LOL Pooh and Vege family crest

Info

People are saying that Yuzu’s family crest looks like originated from The Azai clan (浅井氏 Azai-shi), which was a line of daimyo (feudal lords) during Japan’s Sengoku period that was based in Ōmi Province (present day Shiga Prefecture).

The Azai clan, along with the Asakura clan, opposed Oda Nobunaga in the late 16th century. They were defeated by him at the Battle of Anegawa in 1570, and all but eliminated when their home castle, Odani Castle, was taken three years later.
(From Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azai_clan#)

If so, Yuzu and Nobu (descendent of the Oda family) really have a long story to tell.

More pics of the azai clan family crest and Yuzu's clothes.

Japanese Family Crest:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mon_(emblem)
https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/家紋

I'm not sure about Azai Clan things. It seems even commoners including merchants and farmers had their family crests already in Edo period. Except for some crests for high ranks such as royal family, which was prohibited for others to use, I don't think there was any strict authority to control other ones. Actually, my parents' family crest is Chigai Takanoha (Crossing pair of hawk feathers) and their ansestors were farmers for generations, and my husband's family crest is Daki Myoga (Pair of Japanese gingers), and he says his ansectors were Shinto priests, but I have never seen any evidence such as a pedigree so far

Hanyu family might be related to Azai Clan, but it might not be. They may have something to tell their family history, but I don't know.

And, sorry this might be too much just for a pun said by Yuzuru, but in case there is anyone interested

Translations

(reposting from The Edge)
I saw this interview on TV with Matsuoka Shuzo yesterday which really showed the other side of Yuzu.
He is extremely polite and kind in his interactions with every one, but his competitiveness in unmatched.
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3g8wed_1130-世界最高得点の-きっかけ-とは_sport
Here are some points from the interview and if anyone sees an error in my translation, please do tell me.

About his ending pose at the LP with a smile.
Y:I heard that the ending pose for the SP was too scary, I myself thought, "That's scary"

Matsuoka:
This may be impertinent, but I thought, you don't have to break the record so extremely, how about a little at a time? (Like Sergei, the famous pole vaulter and olympic champion that broke the world record many times little by little)

Y: Honestly, seeing the score, I felt the same way. What am I going to do? After this, what do I do and what do I aim for? My current 'self' can't do any more than this.

Y: At Skate Canada my mistakes were very frustrating, and the score for my SP was quite a shock.
(insert clips of Skate Canada and explanation about being second to Patrick there)

Y: At the medals ceremony, Patrick and I congratulated each other, He said congratulations and I said congratulations, and then I said "But next time, I'm going to win." I said "next time I'm going to be standing there (center podium) you just wait."

Matsuoka: You say such a thing...

Y: Really, from the time of the Olympic season, I'm...actually from before that....2010...I had heard that Patricks skating is wonderful! So I saw it close up, (COR 2010) and I thought, I'm going to study this! Let's steal this! And at that competition I fell to bits and was 7th. -That's where it all began!

(clips of the Gala practice from Skate Canada Yuzu practicing the 4t from Spread eagle)
Y: I thought, I've got to evolve from NOW. -And Patrick was there close by and it was a wonderful motivation. I felt like, "Look at this!" I'll try any jump, I'm going to keep growing. And with the resolve of "I'm going to win next time for sure" I continued to train.

Y:This is on a different topic from Patrick, but this time (NHK) something that got me really fired up, was Boyang Jin scoring 95 in his short program. (clip of Boyangs SP performance and getting 95 points)
The moment I saw he had 95 points I thought "It was a no-miss program! He put out his full potential here!" I thought "Yeaaahh!" (or insert any kind of 'affirmative exclamation' in Japanese 'Oshyaaa!') I thought, it's come!
I've thought this way, always, but I really don't like winning when others do a bad performance. I like being first after every one else has put out everything! I want to push myself that much.
(the rivalries of Patrick and Boyang pushed Yuzu to bring his out of this world performance) I told myself, you've got to be the undisputed champion.

Y: At the GPF, how much will be expected? (of me)
More than winning 3 times, the pressure of my own points is too strong. As a record, I really don't know what to do about it. There is nothing I can see beyond it, but I must go beyond it.

End of interview

HI everyone:

Today i attended a press call with Patrick Chan. Here is my latest blog entry - I wrote about the comments he made about Yuzu's recent NHK performance. Patrick was very well spoken!

https://sportymags.wordpress.com/20...terview-thoughts-about-yuzus-nhk-performance/

Hope you enjoy.

Wow this is a great blog post. Patrick does seem very well spoken and I am really glad he is aiming for the skate of his life to see what potential scores he can pull. I hope that it happens at the GPF but I still think Patrick should be able to figure out with the technical score that Yuzuru put out there his content can't compete.

interesting.
I went back to the protocols of skate canada and changed his 3T into a second 4T. Tripling the second quad was his only mistake there so I think you can say that by adding the 4T we would get the true potential of Patrick's program.
Result: TES=101.17 then lets give him 10 for every category of the PCS=100. Hypothetical score=201.17 (and he is never gonna get perfect 10s for PCS anyway).

So my conclusion is that Patrick certainly has chances to beat Yuzu in any competition, depending on how they both skate on that day. He is NOT going beyond that score though. Never.
As for the total score, he won't beat that either because he can't do two quads in the SP.
