No offense but why people keep saying and hoping Yuzu doesn't peak at GP or at GPF? we don't know that if he doesn't peak at GP/GPF then he WILL peak at Worlds, maybe he will do worse (I hope not).
It's just bothering me a little, why can we appreciate for what he already achieved even if it's ONLY in GP/GPF and praying that he will do the same good performance or better at Worlds..

There are benefits of doing well and winning the GPF. Winning GPF gives the skater momentum going into WC. After all, GPF is the second most prestigious competition after WC/Olympics. If a skater does poorly at GPF (or have no good performances before WC at all), he/she most likely will be low-balled at WC even if he/she skates well at WC. E.g. Denis Ten at 2013 WC. Theoretically, judges shouldn't be affected by a skater's momentum. But judges are human and they are all biased to a certain degree (nationalistic bias, reputation bias, skate order bias, home ice bias etc). The reason Yuzu got so many 10s for his SP at GPF is because he is the favorite going into the GPF after his record performances at NHK. Judges were prepared to given him huge scores if he skates well again. (I guess judges don't want to regret not giving out 10s this time.) If he performed his SP with the quality he did yesterday for the first time, he wouldn't have gotten so many 10s. He probably would've gotten only half of the number of 10s, similar to the number of 10s he got for his LP at NHK.

Also, Japan has deepest men's field. A good performance at GPF can guarantee a spot to the Olympics and worlds. There is no point peaking for the Olympics/worlds if you are not going to be sent to the Olympics/worlds.

Based on Yuzu's past record, his performances after GPF and national are usually not as good as his performances at GPF and national. His performance at the first competition after national is usually worse than his performance at the second competition after national. His past quota of good competitions per season is around 3-4 competitions. I hope he can expand his quota of good competitions to at least 4 per season, so he can win GPF, national, 4CC/Olympics and worlds with good performances.

Haven't seen anyone posted this yet, but this is the Japanese commentary + Oda-san and Matsuoka-san reporting

This video contains footage of the interview with reporters. He repeated how nervous he was, close to how he felt before the free at NHK. He felt the pressure of doing the same as at NHK. He said that he's had two seasons with this SP and then combined with his performance at NHK it gave him confidence. He said he only had really 1 week of practice time since NHK.

I love seeing him talk to reporters; amazes me how well-spoken he is every single time!

It's amazing that when he looks relaxed like crazy he says he was nervous, and when he looks totally nervous he says he was calm

I think the last one says Hanyu is 27 years old, I haven't had the time to really sit still and try and translate much of it, but some words are universal in their admiration of his skating. :-)

The last one seems to be okay, but the second one says Yuzu is 24 y/o and that he took a year off competition. Guess they're confusing Yuzuru with Patrick :palmf:

For anyone who is bored waiting for the LP.

Knock knock.

Who's there?

Yuzuru Hanyu brings Winnie the Pooh to practice session.

Yuzuru Hanyu brings Winnie the Pooh to practice session who?

Yuzuru Hanyu brings Winnie the Pooh to practice session because practice makes Pooh-fect!

Last year was just Yuzu, this year we have Yuzu and Mao. I'm sure many more fans travelled from Japan to Barcelona to just see them. Yuzu is aiming for his 3rd consecutive GPF titles, which is something no one else has done in the Men's discipline, and Mao has the possibility of becoming the first lady ever to have 5 GPF titles. Both are equally spectacular and something the fans would not want to miss. Is it possible that the local fans are just not fast enough to snatch the event tickets? Another thing is that not all Asians are Japanese. I found it funny that last year at the Worlds, the British eurosport guys were commenting on how many Japanese fans travelled from Japan to Shanghai. But in reality, those are not all Japanese fans, many of them were Chinese waving the Japanese flag to support their favorite skater.

I just purchased my Japanese flag for worlds myself, lol. Being that Shoma and Yuzu are my faves it was a no brainer.

I'm happy for Yuzuru slaying the ice field and all, but PLEASE DON'T PEAK AT GPF. I NEED (or my wallet needs) him to decisively win Worlds 2016.

I know how you feel. I'll be seeing him for the first time in April and I'd love for him to skate clean and win there. Instead of hoping for peaking, I'm just hoping that he has a new found consistency that can carry him to the end of the season. I'd be thrilled for him to win his second worlds in our home country, much like I was in 2003 when Plushy won his second one here, and Shen and Zhao had me in tears winning their second one after she had a big injury. But it's up to the skate gods :P. He seems to be holding up his end though, haha. He seems committed to wanting to put out his best and doing what he needs to do to make it happen with his training and mental toughness.

Hi all

I have two extra tickets for the World gala for sale. They are in row 7 of lower bowl on the end...more specific details and map can be provided. Please DM me if interested. Thanks!

It seems Yuzu's out of the world records has spread outside figure skating community. This morning, my brother asked whether I've heard about this Hanyu skater guy. I said "Of course! He's my favourite ever!". His reaction "Ehhh? Even you?! Since when?". He saw the news on Yahoo homepage and somehow his gaming friends talked about it (I don't know how, when and why they talked about figure skating O.o). It's a pleasant surprise. I checked Yahoo homepage and indeed, Yuzu is there :) My brother said he came across something on Yuzu online few times and he didn't expect he is very famous and a high achiever. He also didn't expect his own sister is a fan lol I'm so happy and proud :)
