congratulation for passing 6 millions views!!! All of you guys are awesome!!! I remembered the first time I saw him. It was his performance of SEIMEI in NHK and those steps when he just simply catwalk toward the judge panel and stared at them with his fierce eyes, was the part that I was impressed most. At that time, I have no idea about the spins, the jumps and step sequences, I can't even distinguish between different jumps, especially whether a jump is 3 or 4 rotations, so I admired and was attracted by the performance because of its strong and powerful impact, the energy in his movement and its aesthetic side rather than its technical issue. After that I don't remember how many times I have replayed this performance, and then I decide to follow him and figure skating, then get to know about all the technical elements, and thus my admiration to this performance just grows up more and more.

That first one was the very first time we saw this crossroll at Autumn Classic....it was so gorgeous from his hair, face, body (especially the hips), movement, under armour practice clothes.

4CC is also known for inflation. Scores at 4CC are usually higher than the scores of performances with similar quality at other competitions.
There is always the issue of injury, which can be unpredictable. Among the younger skaters, Boyang is the most serious challenger to Yuzuru in 2018. However, I see Denis Ten (barring injuries) as the most serious threat to Yuzuru in 2018. The next Olympics will be held in Korea. Korea does not have any medal contenders in skating. The majority of the audience at the Olympic games will be patriotic casual fans. (The majority of the tickets at the Olympics are reserved for local audience, not for foreign audience.) Denis is ethnically Korean. He will be at his peak (or slightly past his peak) in 2018. I see Denis as the one most favored by the Korean crowd. He doesn't represent Korea, so he won't face the home town pressure. That probably will help him give a good performance (especially given how nerve wrecking the Olympics can be) in Korea. Denis' best competition ever is last year's 4CC in Korea.
I don't expect Korean casual fans to be very friendly to Japanese skaters at the next Olympics. I think Yuzuru's biggest challenge at the next Olympics is to give a good performance in an unfavorable environment. A champion excels under all (favorable and unfavorable) conditions.

Your post reminded me that a year ago I didn't even know figure skating existed as a sport. I also discovered it after seeing Yuzu's R&J 2 (and omg I looooooove that costume). Now I have his performances on loop whenever I have (or don't have) time.
I've just had a glance at Han Yan's fs at 4CC, the music reminds me of our 17-year-old Romeo back to 2012 WC in Nice. For me this is the best Romeo and there will never be anyone can skate R&J like this anymore, even Yuzuru now. I hope he can do his best for WC this year! Go Yuzu!

Well, Sochi was not the most friendly of environments either, specially the Team SP. But given how close it is to Japan, I would think there would be a decent Japanese crowd in there, too, even if they're not majority
It was a great performance! The guys are really bringing it this season! I just hope that Yuzu doesn't put too much pressure on himself to add the 4Lo and that he only does it if he's truly comfortable with it and it's consistent :yes:
Well injuries lets not hope that - I just mention Nathan Chen - its a pity with him, big, big talent.
Denis Ten is also one of my favorite skaters - his style - but can he technically be at Jins or Hanyus level 2018 ? With only his - in the past - not really consistent 4 T ?
Patrick Chans flawless performance ( I didn't trust my eyes) at 4CC FS brings him 12 Pts in front of Jin in FS, Chan was lucky that he won 4CC by less than half a point. Even if you consider chinese inflation at Taipei, Jin is closing the gap. Like Patrick Chan also Denis Ten with having only a 4 T must perform without any technical mistakes to have a chance to win.
Hanyu won't stand still to 2018....as to this "unfavorable environment" at Olympics in Korea: He will put on his fighting and conquering mode - as You mentioned: Hanyu is a champion. Remember Takahasi : Hanyu is a carnivore.

I'm definitely biased, but after watching the men's competition of 4CC this weekend, it reminded me of how much I appreciate Yuzuru's overall skating and his presence at competitions. It just feels different to me when Yuzuru is competing compared to a competition when he's not there.

I'm pretty sure Chan's performance will have a positive effect on him. He learned the hard way (aka GP season 2013) that he should not stress or be too obsessed with a rival's results. Considering how he IS now careful with his health (as he promised to at the end of last season), we can trust him it will motivate him to work well and show at Boston that he can still be on top.
One of the things that I didn't like about 4CC was Denis's absence. He improved his programs, but didn't have a chance to show it yet. Poor guy has been injured this whole season, but I really want him to make a good comeback at World and be one more skater to push Yuzuru to be his usual ultra-talented self.

I am sure about that, remember how strong he was at NHK after Jin's performance and then at GPF after performances of Shoma and Javier?
Just remind me he said that he hates to win when others have bad performance, he wants to win when everyone have their perfect performance so I think Jin's and Chan's performances at 4CC will motivate Yuzu's ambition and determination.
