You could tell after the skate how upset he was because the small interview cbc had with him after was very difficult. I couldn't understand him at all, which is unusual because he's improved so much. You could tell his mind was elsewhere. I hope he recovers quickly, physically and mentally... although i"m sure the mental part will stay with him for a long time.

And I hope a coaching change isn't in the cards. I think he and Brian have a good relationship. Some married couples say their spouses are still "a mystery" to them, it's just a saying, so that quote isn't a harbinger of things to come.

Just got back from the rink and read through all these comments. Being there was an emotional roller coaster. I think I cried for 40 minutes straight. I'm heartbroken. All I wanted was to see a clean Seimei live, unfortunately that was not to be. I hope Yuzu gets his inner demons sorted. He just looked so lost out there today. He is to talented not to. But as everyone else has said, this in no way takes away from the brilliance he gave us in December. I'll be watching GPF Seimei for years to come. Please come back even stronger than ever next season!

I am so depressed about Yuzu, Patrick and Shoma I can hardly think. They all had rough skates. I left before the medal ceremony.

Yuzuru looked fine in practice today, and in the 6 min warmup. I won't speculate on what happened. Too sad. I'm glad Japan has 3 spots for next year though.

On the bright side...does this mean Seimei 2.0? He could always add the 4Lo :)

But we already have more than excellent Seimei x2 this season. I'm sure Yuzu is capable of creating a new program that's just as amazing, if not more so. As for the 4Lo, I wonder that if he adds it, whether it'll replace one of the other quads? Or 3 different quads in the FS?

I don't think there is anywhere better or anyone better out there for Yuzu to train with, to be honest. Brian Orser can do well by him as evidenced by this season's successes but he won't solve all his head problems, nobody will.

If his coach won't help solve his problems, then he shouldn't be his coach. It's what coaches are for. To me, this season isn't a success where it counts in terms of titles and the issue is a long-standing one. He completely lost it when he should have shown what he's made of and all his talent in its full glory.

Anyway, I've said the rest before. He'll do what he thinks is best and I'm only saying this anyway because to be honest till the end - Yuzuru deserves better IMO. Ah well.

Poor Brian. I wonder if he is thinking the same thoughts that are going on in here. Is his happy home going to be broken?

Really? level 4 on the steps? and here I thought it was the poorest one he did all year, LOL. shows what I know! A small victory. woot woot!

The worst thing tonight - the ABSOLUTE worst - was seeing Yuzu forcing himself to smile. Just... I can't.

I can't believe some of you blaming training situation here, I think Orser has done the best he could.
Agree, the coach can't really manipulate every instances how his student thinks and feels so we cannot blame the coach for the skaters succumbing to pressure. Sure he can teach yuzu not to be nervous and of course anyone would know being nervous isn't helpful for competitions , but rationally knowing and emotionally feeling can be totally different.

same. They are all potential skaters and all are not in their best condition, today just isn't the day for Asian guys is it? (Well Patrick is of Asian bloodline?)

Good thing you didn't, his face was so heartbreaking you could feel his pain from all the highest row up

oh that's really sad, I hope you feel better now, don't worry we all feel the same. Alright everyone :ghug:

I just can't believe someone's trying to blame Brian Orser for what happened. I can't believe someone's looking for anyone to blame now. Two months ago Brian was the best ever, now no? Frailty, thy name is a random fan who always knows better.
I'm really sorry for Yuzuru now - I feel his pain and frustration. But he's a class act nevertheless - and he's the greatest skater out there. Challenged by Javi, but what he achieved this season was monumental. Don't let us try to downplay that.

I think people just need to cool down and see things more objectively ;) Yuzuru is the one who goes and skates, at the end it depends on him between been awesome or not, I really hope he can move on from this experience and learn from it to be a better competitor next season. He is already incredible.

Exactly , luckily Yuzu seems to be more mature and classy than some of his uber.

I am heartbroken not because of his placement, feeling his sorrow and pain is the one hurting. However, every dark cloud has a silver lining. Last year's losing title, make him determine to train earlier and thus the wonderful world breaking records SP and LP emerged. This experience will only make him stronger and develop further evolution to become a true champion anywhere, anytime .
In him we trust ( his fighting spirit). Best is yet to come.:agree:

I would have felt better if he cried. But he didn't and that made me cry.

I'm so sad for Yuzu, I mean I'm happy for Javi but very very sad for Yuzu, especially since he was so happy two days ago, I do agree that he looked kind of out of it the whole week but lets hope he can overcome this. My heart broke for him.

One thing which Brian can impart very well to Yuzuru now is how to deal with coming second when it mattered. That's a pretty valuable lesson for anyone. So I'll be happy for Yuzu to stay with him. I've loved Brian Orser since the 80s - I remember those Olympics where he lost and I still remember my own pain.
That said, I'll respect Yuzuru's decision should he want to change his coach. But Brian deserves all the credit for his work.

I am not trying to lay the blame but something is going wrong and there's a cause for that. Things don't happen out of thin air. Yes, he is the greatest skater out there, for me the greatest of all time, and he cannot and did not deliver when it mattered. I am not downplaying what he achieved, I think more was his for the taking. He could have been the greatest of all time with two World titles and chasing a third, and now, he's facing even more pressure next year, with even more baggage. If Orser couldn't help him up to this point, then he sure as hell has an even bigger problem on his hands now.

Yuzuru Hanyu shouldn't even be thinking about second places.

Not to mention...

Maybe it's normal for you that Yuzuru lost and his coach wasn't with him.
His coach who was with his biggest rival who just beat him. His coach who just helped that happen.

When by all accounts he is massively gutted and needs the most focus and support, he is all alone ... because the most important person isn't there, he's celebrating with Javi and won't be there because Javi will continue on.
Knowing Yuzuru, he won't ever want to rain on Javi's parade and yeah, that's a problem too with them being with - the same coach.

It is not normal for me but hey, we'll agree to disagree.
