Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

I was delighted when I heard he was going to keep Chopin. It is my N1 program in Yuzu's list and overall best SP ever in history of men skating at least for me. It will be very hard for him to find a sp that will top Ballade but I have all hopes

I also have hope since all his SPs have been great for a while

I don't think the scores next season will be as inflated as this season. 300+ might be quite rare next season.

I don't know if anyone will join the 300 club, but inflation? Is here to stay.

First; who the hell is Daniel? Second; pretty sure that Yuzuru only rivals are Javier and Shoma and possibly Patrick! The others have many weaknesses like (mutiple quads but no artistry) or (artistry but only 1 quad).

I wouldn't be so sure about just Javier and Shoma and Patrick. It's dangerous to underestimate other skaters: Denis Ten, Boyang Jin, Nathan Chen... And Daniel Samohin is lacking in many areas (most notably consistency) but if he has a good day and Yuzuru has a bad day, Daniel could win over him, the boy has the quads, he has the charisma, and he has the Junior Worlds Champion title (which IMO is certain to improve PCS in the judges' eyes). Remember, "artistry" is in the eye of the beholder!

If the inflation continues, the ISU will have to implement the +5 GOE next season, otherwise what scores are they going to give at the Olympics?

Hey hey, just becaue they maxed out Javi and Yuzuru's PCS doesn't mean there aren't any other guys they can apply inflation to! And then after they max out other guys in 2018 the new rules will come in they can go at it again! (But seriously, it's a bit of a pity that Yuzu won't benefit from the +5 GOE rule or from cutting of the one jumping pass which might improve his overall pacing.)

I wouldn't expect big quads from Nathan next season cause he needs to recover first. But in 2017/18 he may become a problem for his rivals.

Also I wanted to mention that if the less quads rule shall apply starting with the upcoming season then, perhaps, and it's only my humble opinion- Yuzu might last longer in competitive sport. But we have what we have.

He's been recovering from a surgery since January, right? I don't know what shape he'll be in either and I hope he will go easy on himself, but knowing how determined to win these kids are he might not.

Oh well. But perhaps one less jump pass and more GOE will motivate Yuzu to stay longer anyway?

Ehh, it'd kinda a good thing that Yuzuru has been talking about post-Olympic retirement for a long time, his fans will have had years to mentally prepare for it and not get their hopes up over every little thing.

His fans want him to compete Plushenko style, that is what his fans want for real. ;)

(Honestly, I hope he doesn't compete at SC next season because the same thing might happen if he loses to Patrick again.) His program layout is very difficult and risky, if he does well in early competitions, the risk of him being injured for the rest of the season is quite high.
That's true, though I don't think he will be as worked up as last season if it happens again.

Considering 2019 World will be in Saitama, Japan, if he is healthy I think most likely he will stretch his competitive skating career for a year (he would still be 24 by then anyway, which is 1 year younger than current Javi. Also, even with less jumping passes, I doubt he will drop the quad. He will probably ditch the 3F or 3Lz instead.

He never gets fair judging in Canada because of Patrick. The only way he can win in Canada is to execute a much more difficult program flawlessly, so judges can't deny him. Nobody wants to over-train and get injured on purpose. Why put him in such a position and force him to over-train himself?

Nah. I don't want him to go to SC again either. Not because of Chan or the judging per se, but because he has been there for 13/14 and 15/16 season. He should go somewhere else for a bit of a change. He could still meet Chan at other GP though, assuming Yuzuru is not allocated to SA, cause I doubt Chan will be assigned to SA+SC. All I am saying is prior to NHK and GPF he hadn't really beaten Chan's WR score, so back then the sky is the limit for him. Especially back then he can't even beat Chan's FP score even with 3 quads. He doesn't know how much he will get if he skate his layout clean yet. Now he sort of know how his skating can go score-wise when he is clean.

Why do you guys think he hates 3F? I love that jump from him.

He always has edge call, even up to 13/14 season. His early senior season all of his 3F got edge call. i think he only starts getting a clean 3F recently. I am not sure if Yuzuru himself mention that he hate 3F but Brian made a remark about his Flip before that imply he is not fond of it in one of his interview.

He wouldn't push himself that hard if he didn't lose SC after he attempted a much more difficult program than Patrick did. I don't believe judging in Skate Canada will ever be fair (except ladies because Canadian ladies are weak). Most skaters try to avoid Skate Canada.

Yeah his score tend to be held down when he competed at SC. I doubt yuzuru will go there this season honestly, he's been there 2 times in the past 3 seasons. Hope ISU assign him somewhere else. Probably Jin or maybe Javi would be there but I don't think SC would want Javi

It's the feds that decide on the assignments. All those feds are playing strategic games with each other and doing a lot of bargaining and trading. I doubt most of Yuzu's GP assignments are even his choices.

The least signaled jump I've ever seen, really out of nowhere. Turn turn revolution revolution, twi-- jump! If Yuzu stays in 2018/19 season, I hope he won't remove the flip. The lutz can go.

Do you think Yuzu would learn a -Lo combination in order to cram as many triples as possible if he were to compete under the new rules?

He was practicing 3lz3lo in one of the video and popped the 3lo to 2lo. I think he is trying to cram as many triples as possible. I guess whether he will add a 3lo combination depends on the success rate of -Lo combo in practice.

Oooh, I didn't know he was practicing it? When was it?
