Just speculation (and that wouldn't be very Yuzu-like but) maybe he lost confidence in the 4Lz after trying to land it for the cameras and it taking a good 9 attempts? And the landing wasn't perfect either.

I just watched the full clip now and he says he isn't planning to put it in his program. so that's clear now. I didn't see the full vid before.
Sorry!

Ah thank you Specs! No harm done.

_____________

I am still in the camp of wait and see though. I just don't see how next season can work without the 4Lz when all the other top men are upping their content. So ... that's his answer now and gets media off his back. We'll see.

I have a gift

Doesn't it? But if his 3A is huge, just how much of a monster would the 4A be? I keep eyeing my floor for those 1.1 meters and oi vey. Unless you've got decent spatial awareness most won't notice the extra height, but you can't miss that length.

You know, I'm just eyeing my apartment floor, and I'm not sure that 4A would fit in here

Beautiful monster indeed. Adorable, cute, beautiful, scary monster.

Mhm... that surprises me. And I'm not sure it's the smartest thing to do, given how all of Shoma/Nathan/Boyang are likely to upgrade (and partly have a higher BV already).

But then I hope that means keeping his current layouts, max with 2x 4Lo in the LP. If they seriously take out one of his 3As for a 5th quad I'll quite figure skating and move to a farm far away from TV and internet.

Forget taking out 2 axels , it will never happen. He is confusing everyone it is strategy imo, imagine if he says I am going for 5 quads LP with lz in it , all youngsters will rush to bring 6 quad LPs since the season start.. also I do believe that he doesn't know everything for now. He has to check the consistency figure out new layout with teams. It is better to say I will not do and do , then say I'll and not able to do. Keeping same layout it is not Yuzuru, there hasn't been a year when he kept same layout. We 'll see

Generally yes, but I'm surprised there was a firm no at all. Usually he's just sticking to "I don't know yet".

And not sure if it will change what the youngsters are doing... IMO; they'll upgrade anyway, no matter what he says.

What bothers me is the decisiveness with which he answered. The way he said it seemed to me like he left no room for speculation.

Umm, didn't the journalist ask him "Are you going to include 4Lz during next season going into Olympics?" and he answered "Zenzen nai desu".
Probably I've misinterpreted the question, could you translate it correctly?

Actually, I think it was rather: "Do you plan to include 4Lz during next season going into Olympics?" and he said "No". Because, when she later asked if he has made any plans for next season, he also said: "No." And that this season has just ended. Implying, I guess, that it's too early to think (or maybe, rather, talk) about it. So it could be less of a definitive 'no, I won't add 4Lz' and more of a "Nothing's decided yet, we'll see what happens." (or, "I've decided, but I'm not telling you anything just yet~" :P) Which, IMO makes more sense... (except that Brian said Javi has already chosen his music and will start training his new programs soon, if I remember correctly :scratch2: ) If I'm wrong, please correct... somehow, my Japanese feels worse when watching Yuzu interviews... I guess it's just different vocabulary to what I'm used to :o:

However, he did also say, when going over the jumps the others are doing, something like (sorry, can't re-watch now for an exact quote): "It's not like who has the most types of quads also has the wins." As in, having quads doesn't necessarily translate into wins. So... who knows. :confused2:

I was going by what Specs said but yes, looking at that now, I still don't see it as a definitive no. What I mean is, the jump is not ready. To confirm yes, he'll do it now, would be jumping the gun. It's too soon, he needs to see how it all works in a program potentially, even if he does want to use it. I think it's better to take it as a wait and see thing. :confused2:
I know, he may include it of course.

I just find it presumptuous to speculate like many fans and especially Japanese journalists do that "if Yuzu is able to jump it, he definitely will include it, come on!"
All this talk and hype around 4L and 4A (many waited it's debut at WTT  ) puts even more pressure on Yuzu or let's say 'bricks into his backpack' (c) B.Orser.

Please, Yuzu, go back to Toronto as soon as you can and stay there all summer

I think it was almost polite way of saying: "No, I won't tell you anything because I don't want you to discuss it non-stop next 4-6 months and compare my plans to somebody else's"

Also, he might want to keep his rivals guessing... will he, won't he... lol

(Actually, I wonder... if one day he'd add 4A to his program, would he announce it? And if not, how long could he keep it a secret? Is he forced to give an accurate program plan before the skate? Or could he say he'll do 4S or so and instead slam in a 4A during the performance. On purpose, but hiding it for shock value? Totally hypothetical talk, of course, but I guess it might result in several heart attacks, not just in this forum, if it ever happened...)

Its good to hold some secrets to yourself ;) We won't know till we know (maybe he won't know till then either. YOLO quads/combos :roll9:) I never worry about his lack of foresight because he's second to none in that aspect. He understands and acknowledge the challenges he faces going forward and has never taken it lightly, even when he was the underdog chasing the sun.

I think he doesn't know yet. Maybe the lz isn't stable enough so he doesn't want to say he'll introduce it until he sees it's good enough. He has all the summer to practice new things and he'll figure out later. His answer is wise, no need to add even more presure than he already has.

He has experience with media now, lots of it, and his savvy has grown. He will only say what he wants to say.

looking at the interview, i'm still marvel at how articulate he is. very natural and something about him just draw you in, even he is not skating.

hi! i'm new to the forum... my name is Celeste, i'm 16 and i'm from Argentina. i've been into FS in general since october '16 and becoming a fan of Yuzu was one of the best things that happened to me. sadly, winter sports are not popular here (i don't think i've ever seen a latinx skater at competitions), so i'm thankful i got to know such an inspiring athlete/person through social media. it's honestly a privilege to watch him perform, even if its just through videos. i'd die to watch him live someday, tbh.
i've been following him for the last months and i'm proud of everything he's achieved this season!!!
before the next season starts, i want to learn more about the sport technically.. although i've watched his programs countless of times, i've just focused on the beauty of it since i can only tell apart one jump, lol (it's the Axel). how long did it take you guys to identify each jump on the spot? what is the quickest way to learn them?

Hi and welcome to the thread! (You happened to post at a critical moment.)
There's alot of info out there about how different jumps work and how they look. Different skaters will have slightly different techniques but Yuzu is definitely a good skater to start learning with because his are textbook. Their main differences lie in the take-off of the jumps. I would recommend watching slow-mos of jumps while paying attention to the legs and feet before and at take-off. The more you watch the easier it will come to you.

ETA: This video here discusses GOEs but it could help you with a few of the featured jumps!
