Technically speaking "the more variety" thing will have to hold even if he ends up adding the 4Lz because Nathan with the 4Lo will still be above him in that number.

Oh, I'm not discounting Nathan at all. His BV will always be scary and enough to make up a lot of PCS differences.

I wouldn't either and I don't think Yuzu is underestimating anybody. I don't think Nate's 6 quad attempt went unnoticed. Better boots and a consistent season next season and it's totally game on.

I think the 6 quads are bringing good points, but a program like H&L even with 4 quads are beating the 6. Imagine if Yuzu has programs more difficult than H&L for next season with 4 quads but adds some combos to them or maybe a 5th quad, even if he moves another quad to the second half of the program, clean skate and he's unbeatable!

Do remember Nathan fell on two of those 6 quads and ended up not repeating the 4Lz he had planned. What happens if he lands them all? That'll be answered next season... I'm not sure there's anyone who can be unbeatable anymore, not the way things are going in this sport.

If he lands everything his PCS will also increase. Much like what we saw this season. Things just came back to reality at worlds because he didn't skate that well. But points wise, he wasn't far off from a podium place and even with those falls he was 4th in the free. And if we're in for a messy night at the Olympics I think it's going to come down to base value.

For next year's layout I am totally trusting Yuzuru's judgment. He has shown us time and time again how good he is at reading the scene and planning ahead and I don't think next season will be any different. If he thinks that the 4Luz is not necessary then he is probably right.
I will pray for his health and that he will deliver a performance he is proud of at the Olympics (even if it is not a winning performance)

I think Yuzuru's desire is to avoid 'a messy night', hence all the talk about raising the average this season and maximizing his GOEs and of course if possible, PCS if he's skating clean (ish).
It's a fine line actually and if he's still thinking about the 4Lz and other additions (probably combinations), I think he is thinking from that angle. How to raise 'the average' and thus have the best shot in case he isn't 'in the zone', as he calls it, and at the same time, how far should he reach into the add more difficulty theory, while still making sure that 'average' is always there at hand.
I think the answer is to keep a four quad program, with the 4Lz added because it keeps the layout of this season and yet raises the BV (especially if he changes the quad combination) and also leaves room for other possible adjustments, ie he can throw in yet another quad if push comes to shove but we'll see what he comes up with. One thing I'd be willing to bet is that there is no way he has actually already discarded the idea of the 4Lz in his program.
He had been aware of the youngsters coming up when nobody else paid them much attention. I doubt he's not aware of the danger now, when they're breathing down his neck.
I feel like I'll never catch up with it :sad4:

Aww, that's nice to hear, thank you. And honestly that's about as much as Kurt can gush short of getting onto the ice and proposing to Yuzuru lol :thumbsup:

Ahh all these discussions about layouts are making my head spin- it's a good thing that Yuzuru likes maths and science because I can only imagine the numerous factors he and TCC have to think about.
Also super late (I've been trying to catch up on a couple hundred pages) but thank you everyone for updates about WTT, videos, translations and pictures. I haven't been able to watch any of WTT live because I was on holiday in Athens that lasted exactly the length of WTT funnily enough.
One last wish from WTT from me: does anyone have Team Japan's reaction to Yuzuru's LP (I remember reading about some people watching that app that broadcasted the K&C)? I've seen his reaction to several other TJ members that have been uploaded onto YouTube, but no reactions to his.

I'm curious too. We've seen some reactions to his SP but not sure I've seen any to his FS.

Nathan is a wild card because he has to deliver his quads and hopefully stay in one piece. Adding the loop may bother his hip, and he had to leave out lutzes at WTT to favor his ankles. I hope taking risks doesn't end badly for him. He was the first person I thought of in the debate about Patrick Chan's quad injury comments. I agree Yuzu is capable of beating even a 6 quad layout, but I'll leave it to him to figure out exactly how. Who knows, Nathan may want to focus more on the second mark, so we don't really know what his programs will look like either.

I really liked seeing more of Kana Muramoto at this competition. She seems like such a kind big sister type. I think it was 4CC where Charlie White commented he thought she and Chris were underscored this year
