Go for it! :agree:
Even though, judges would find a way to give even 11 out of 10 in PCS to their favourites...ah, the dark side of judged sport...I know I should stick to swimming...Sorry for the OT, btw, bad day!
I could include passive aggressive messages in case they want to do that
I might look into it, i already thought of another way to do it...

Haha followed the link and i have to agree with this. There is this interview where he was talking abotu Barcelona and how everyone was cheering for Javi and he was thinking "Ore dazo!" and he said with with such a tone that i burst out laughing
i want to hear him saying "ganpbappe!". I might have watched Ama-chan too many times haha.
Well that gives me an incentive to eat everything in my diet plan, there are a lot of fruits that i hate because i feel they taste/smell bad but i will eat them anyways! If Yuzu can drink that awful smelling/tasting liquid... I think i can manage to eat those fruits
Yuzuru Hanyu: Promoting healthy lifestyles

Could somone please tell me what "Ore dazo" means

I'm sad that Yuzu was not given a fair score for that combo, and the winner knew that he got a lucky strike.

Sounds to me that the lucky strike, might not be so lucky afterall.
We have a saying that this is called "bjørnetjeneste" (direct translation: bearfavor), which is giving someone a win or a favor, that later on turns out to not be so fortunet for them. Like being nice in the pcs or the goe in the beginning of the season, and then later on not being so nice in the points giving.

Japanese speakers please feel free to correct me since i've never taken formal classes of the language  just more than 12 years passively learning...

It was something along the lines of "this is me!" or "it's me(now?, given the context...)!" but Yuzuru usually uses "boku" to refer to himself when on interviews and such.
This time he used a very informal "ore" which sounds quite rough  the "da zo" ending also makes it rougher, far from the usual polite and cute Yuzuru we're used to hearing :)
I can't recall right now but i think he was using an alveolar trill in the "ore" or in some of the sentences preceding that, which gave it even more impact
In any case it was quite a manly way of speaking

You're right. And I want to add some nuance to the phrase.
I think the "Ore dazo!" is the phrase in the interview at last season's NHK Trophy, right?
If it's the one, he meant "I'm the one who will win the game, who will score the highest!" He said he cheered himself shouting the phrase in his heart just after he saw Boyan Jin's performance in which he jumped 4Ltz successfully.

No, i think it was after Barcelona, since everyone was still chanting "Javi, Javi!" even when he was already on the ice getting ready to skate. (Unless my memory is completely betraying me thanks to only three hours of sleep).

Agree… I found myself that as this GPS season is going on, ive got so much stress when I hear the scores or watch the protocols. I don’t know if I keep watching figure skating as a sport after his retirement. I don’t want to say so loudly since this is not the Edge thread, but I really feel the judging of this sport isn’t transparent. Yes, there are tons of clear standards, rules and regulations on papers. But applying them to each skater feels much different according to a skater or competition. On contrast, gymnastics is the same scoring sport but the names of judges and protocols are not published. However, the judging seems much fairer to all gymnasts and it’s quite easy to understand the reasons of the judging. It’s much different from figure skating.

Agree with Victor. Yuzuhydroblade’s explanation is to the point!
this video shows the scene of “ore dazo. it was at the Barcelona the audience was calling and cheering for Javi. I remember well the TV program describing his thought “ore-dazo”. "It’s me who are skating here from now!” But I don’t remember totally his interviews, so he may have said “ore-dazo” at the NHK interviews also. No wonder he thought “ore-dazo” at NHK cup also. That’s because luckily I was at the venue of Nagano. From my seat, the face of yuzu right before 6minutes warm up in the excitement of Boyang’s great performance (the venue shook..) wasnt seen. But actually I could feel his fierce fighting spirit like flame. It was really exciting and thrilling, which ill never forget.

I really love his aggressive and athlete side. And that situation, he shines most and looks ever handsome.

I think you got it right. Boku is also used more often with younger children, while ore is used by adult men, so it can be seen as a more masculine way of saying "I/me".

I loved that whole interview with Matsuoka.

(Super off topic but this is incredibly inspiring because it means my listening comprehension progressed  I am more serious on my japanese studies now thanks to Yuzuru, i have been incredibly inconsistent with them until now. Now if only i could find people to practice speaking  )

I can feel the passion he has for the sport when he acts like that, or when people take pictures of him when you can see he is in full competition mode. It's incredibly exciting for me to watch because i know that no matter what happens, it will be a memorable performance. He embodies the saying my drama teacher said to us when we began the classes when i was in high school: "If you care about the performance, think about the impact it will have on the people watching you. The goal is to change people after they see you, in the sense that they should leave the theater with an impression and an opinion about what you did. Negative or positive, that would mean your performance was memorable enough. If people watch you and feel nothing, and say absolutely nothing about your performance, you failed."
He really gives his best on the ice, and that competitive side it's the side i like the most, it even motivates me to do my best every day and try to be a bit more like him

I had the impression that "boku" it's a bit softer but still masculine way of addressing yourself without falling into "watashi" territory, which would explain why Yuzuru uses it: "i am polite but i'm still a guy". I've only heard him use ore when it's really clear he feels comfortable with the person interviewing him.
And i agree, that interview was amazing, i've watched it tons of times  It's fascinating to have an insight about what he thinks on the ice and in situations like that.

Yes, this was while he was on the ice and Javi was waiting for his score in Barcelona last year. I think he had messed up his triple loop before hand and feeling a bit nervous about that, then the crowd was going wild for Javi's good skate so he did his prima donna triple axel and so those words to himself.

I always remember one of my friends who isn't an avid watcher of figure skating but does tune in for the big competitions and I remember during GPF last year, after his SP she was like holy hell, he is suddenly so hot, when he looked quite fierce in the end. She was all, where did that come from  So yes, I or we agree, he looks the most handsome to me too, when he is like that!

Ore and boku is typically only used by males. Watashi can be used by either, but atashi is used almost exclusively by females. As I mentioned before, ore is typically used by male adults, which is probably why boku gives you the impression that it's softer as it's mostly used by younger males (children typically refer to themselves this way).

Usually he is really cute and idk, i think it awakens a "i want to protect him!" feeling in me. But in competition mode, the decision of being the best can be seen in his eyes, he isn't the kid we are used to seeing, it really is Hanyu senshu and he does look extremely handsome like that :hopelessness: but also, like i said, inspires me to try and have a bit of that fire in me to do even little things that are daunting right now (i am at my first job, i need lots of courage! ). The fact that someone like that exists in this world and i have the opportunity to watch him grow and evolve makes me really happy to be alive :D

During the last practice before the FS at Skate Canada he was practicing 4Lo, missing some and hitting others. He was jumping it right in front of us and one time where he held onto the landing he held the edge so that he turned and we could see his face. It was a pretty intense and scary face (I also loved it)! Reminded me of that interview haha. It might actually be in my fancam videos, but the quality of that jump video isn't as good as I had to take it from my friend (I had stopped recording for some reason) and his face is a little blurry.

:laugh2: he really hates to lose even in warm ups i guess!

You made me rewatch his last year's GP performances right now and LOL - I couldn't help that there's a new group of comments in many of Yuzuru's videos - Yuri on Ice fans. They got round to watching some real figure skating. Hope some get hooked on to the fun of rooting for Yuzu...

Their hearts will be broken after Pyeongchang (just like ours :( but at least we got to root for him longer than them)

Don't let us be greedy. We're extremely lucky he's among us now, at this moment. :) I'd never have believed anything like him was possible.
Am I fangirling enough?

I meant it in the sense that he will destroy our hearts too but we got the opportunity to root for him and watch him grow :) I wasn't a fan of men's skating before him, i only paid attention to pairs and ladies (which is what my grandma watched every now and then. He did like Yuzu after ACI hahaha). I am so happy because we are literally watching history in the making :)
