I was wanting to hear him say "parhormance". Loved his post-NHK interview in Japanese where he spoke 100 mph.

It means he can't get pronunciation of "f"and "h"? In Japanese, they are the same sound "hu". So it is difficult for us to get conscious of the difference of pronunciation between the words.:biggrin:

In the context of figure skating vocabulary? Do you maybe mean kaiten (rotation/revolution) ?

Literally the only words I know in japanese are: Arigato gozaimashita, sushi, yonkaitten, shikashi, sou desu ne

Have no idea how these are offically romanized.

Thanks FS and food.

and a couple of dirty ones

I thought maybe he was just going by hearing the word and possibly he has never seen it in writing. But with a skate like that, he can be entitled to call it whatever he wants! :eekn:

You've pretty much got all of them lol (though I usually add a u to arigatou myself because of kana and stressing). The loan words are easy too. I think it's interesting they'll call quads "yon kaiten", but then loan words for the others "toripuru" for triples and so on, lol. And it really shows how quad crazy they are too since it gets so much focus lol. But "yon kaiten" is easier than saying "quadruple" as a loan word. Though I find "san kaiten" easier than "toripuru". If anything when it comes to Japanese, it's their pronunciation of the loan words that gets me tongue tied. But I never revert to the native english sound when speaking japanese because then it seems really weird, lol. "Makudonarudo ni ikitai" will be said instead of "McDonalds ni ikitai"

Yep, I noticed they borrow some words from english but it doesn't bother me since in my country we do it a ton too, especially english and french words. (Like 'shopping' but we don't use it as a verb, we say "I'm going to the 'shopping' " instead of "I'm going to the mall" or "I'm going shopping"), or the ones we use as slang. I believe a lot of countries do this, although Portugal probably does a lot less even if it's the same language. Or just tweak it until they become official words in the dictionary like these:

knockout = nocaute
tournée (tour in french) = turnê
football = futebol
cowboy = cáuboi
cartoon = cartum
bâton (lipstick in french) = batom
blackout = blecaute
picnic = piquenique
sweater = suéter ; etc.

i'm hella off topic

LOL Yeah, it's a really interesting language. Sorry for getting off topic, guys!

But onto some Yuzu stuff. I noticed in one of the videos he seemed to be speaking more english than what showed up in the CBC clip. I wonder if NBC will show some of that tomorrow because he had an NBC mic in his face. Also, does anyone think we'll be treated to his short program during the broadcast? I mean, why not, right? It's not like there were a whole lot of LP performances better than that short, right? It's just good tv, right? From my mouth to NBC's ears, right?

I'm laughing so much at what the blonde woman said at the CBC's fluff :rofl2:

"What a peculiar start of the season for him, he was falling, which is very unusual for him!!"

GiRl, you wouldn't survive a week being a Yuzuru fan, I tell you. You would drown in SC silvers. Where have you been?

Also Kurt's "Nobody sells a landing like Hanyu" is consummate truth.

Where had she been lol he was literally always doing that almost every season since his senior debut. If he did not botch the short then he would botch the free, he was never known for not falling or being a consistent skater. Dang, that NHK and GPF back-to-back clean performance really does things to people's perception of his consistency. :laugh:

I was at SC when I was sitting near a Japanese girl who was wearing these really cute shoes... and another japanese girl passed her, pointed at her feet and said something kawaii... I thought, did I just catch her saying cute shoes??? That was a funny moment for me.

I hope NBC shows his sp, but last year they did because it was a world record. I think they will show more of that interview. The cbc one was done by nbc, cbc must have gotten permission to use it, but it did seem like he was saying more to the same person in other clips.

I do not think cbc is streaming the exhibition, so I will have to rely on other souls to post it later. I wanna see a happy, dying swan.

That cbc girl is andi petrillo... kind of newer to figure skating commentary, maybe 3rd season? Cannot remember. She would not know the early, more trying, years!

The bolded statement is so true. It's hilarious how some performances change completely some people's perception. Some are also especially keen on doing the opposite and writing them off based on some fluke outings, all I can do is laugh. Memories are so volatile, oh dear. :handw:

Although in Yuzuru's case I think right now we can say that he's the most consistent of the top men with multiple quads which I find absolutely hilarious based on past history but lmfao anyway One day I was doing some lousy math and I think he's the most consistent based on last season, but it was by no means an offical analysis, even though I try to be objective. Maybe this season things could turn around with Patrick (since he's got a less difficult layout) and Javier (if he mantains his GP form), hopefully not.

Don't tell her that Christmas is in December this year, she'd be in total shock because of this unusual holiday arrangement.

Also don't tell her that Yuzuru never skated a clean competition in seniors before NHK 2015. She might need an IV or straight up a defibrillator.

GEEZ! I heard this one too.:dance3:I was sitting by the window and we probably were really close to each other.

I know right? Even queens of consistent like Miyahara and Medvedeva FALL. Like last year Med fell on her CS, both her GP events + European and Satoko fell last year at SA and this year at NHK. And these are ladies who are doing generic layout which they probably have been doing since their junior year and probably will do for the rest of their skating career. What do you expect from a guy who keeps upgrading his layout adding a quad each season, lol.

Actually, I agree with you. Because I actually do the statistics (for personal use lol) and yes he is the most consistent in term of quad and 3A (particularly 4S, his 4T success rate is also not bad but funnily Javi's % of 4T landed is higher, but he also did less 4T). Of all those who land 3 type of quads even now I think Yuzuru is doing pretty well. About Javier, I know some are impressed with his consistency in his LP nowadays (he still struggles with SP for now, has yet to perform it clean), but he has been doing 3-quad LP since 2012 so if he is not consistent by now I would actually be surprised and think that something is wrong. Yuzuru only did 3-quad LP last season but is already used to it mid-season last year, seems like people have vague memory about this.

Finally someone that can also see it. :scard7: Cue the Hallelujah chants.

Great that you brought some stats because I lost my math.

Just like when Javier won last Worlds with that LP, the only clean LP of that season and somehow magically for some he became consistent. But I'm not singling out Javier since short!memories phenomenon happens to so many of them. When Boyang falttered at SA in obviously fluke fashion people wrote my spider boy off like their life depended on it. I'm still mad that they did spider boy wrong with that GPF spot, or lack thereof. :curse:

Hahah yes I like stats because well sometimes people brought "facts" from their *ahem*. Like "x has the most consistent 4S" and I will just roll my eyes behind the screen and judge inwardly. I only did the stats for 5 guys last season though.
Made some note about Yuzuru's quads this season too. 4Lo, landed 3 out of 6; 4S, landed 4 out of 9 (actually his solo 4S in FS is 100% landed, but 4S3T only landed 1 out of 6) :hopelessness:; 4T landed 2 out of 3; 3A, the friend you can rely on, 100%, 9 out of 9. :biggrin:

Girl, I swear the only math I do is to see if I ain't broke yet and meds but when someone pulls out these fake 'facts' I'm

So doing a stat check and one of the links for Yuzu's short has nearly 300,000 views in less than 48 hours. Meanwhile, his Skate Canada skate from a month ago has about that many views and it's a month old! :laugh:
