More good news, Yuzu was awarded a 'BIG sports award' again this year along with the RIO medalists. This is a big TV event and last year he was there talking with all the gymnasts etc. Fun times.
I love Japan's Gymnastics and Figure Skating so if we can see them together at year-end it will be great!

Sharing a translation of a newspaper article by Shuko Doyle @YHIFG FB

Photo credit : https://twitter.com/yuzuporuko. The article was translated by me.

This is Not an article on Nathan Chen, but on Yuzuru, written by a newspaper reporter. I really enjoyed reading this newspaper article, so I have translated it to share with you. This tells you how thoughtful and professional Yuzu is. I also saw a similar article written by a different reporter on the web news. I have added some information from the web article in order to explain some things more clearly.

Title: He is such a nice guy, which made me feel 'I want to know more about him'
'it has passed approximately 10 days since I became in charge of winter sports instead of Chuunichi Dragon baseball team (as the baseball season has finished in Japan - shuko). I gave my business card to Hanyu who had just arrived in Marseille Airport (as it was our first meeting). He arrived 1.5 hours late due to the airport trouble (weather trouble? -shuko).

Despite arriving after 11pm, he bowed me saying, "nice to meet you" with a smile. This already gave me a good impression on him, but I was surprised to hear what he said next. Just before getting on the vehicle, Hanyu said, "Everyone, are you OK to come to my hotel (not too tired)?" The Japanese skaters were advised by the Skating Federation not to accept any interviews at the airport (due to the fear of terror attacks). I guess Hanyu must have felt sorry for the reporters who had been waiting for him at the airport till late night.

He politely suggested to meet him at his hotel so that we can ask him some questions. He responded to our questions with a smile even though it was after midnight (on 7th which was his 22nd birthday). After the interview, Hanyu bowed and said to us,"Ashita mo yoroshiku onegaishimasu" (it is very hard to translate, but in this situation, it is like "thank you for kindly spending your time for me tomorrow, again." -shuko). When he was surrounded by many reporters, he cared about us, saying, "I will speak up as loud as I can." I feel I want to know a lot more about this attentive young man who can care about people.

On the web article, the writer also said,"after all SP performances which finished at 10:00pm. Hanyu was scheduled to attend only the press conference for the top 3 competitors; however, he said, 'I will do it' and set up the interview opportunity for Japanese media .He tries his best to communicate with people."

Have to put in a word to defend H&L here ;)

Same here!
I have been in love at the first sight with this program since the first time I saw it at open practice. And as the season progresses, I fall in love with the program even more and more. I feel like this program is very Yuzuru. I know that some people prefer rockstar Yuzuru while the other prefer lyrical Yuzuru. Though I appreciate both, this side of Yuzuru is what makes me fall in love with his skating. I feel he bares his heart and soul when skating this kind of program, that's why regardless of the fall, I have that unexplainable tingling feeling in the chest whenever I watch H&L and I also feel emotional. Somehow the mistakes never really bother me.

When I watch this program, it gives me the feeling of tree branches swayed by the wind (lol I don't know this is just how I feel). I understand that this program is perhaps not for everyone and I saw many people complained that it is empty and boring. But for me, I love the quietness of it, the calming silence, the serenity and the peaceful comfort it offers everytime I watch this. The step sequence part just leaves me breathless! The rise and fall to the music, the swaying, I feel like I inhale and exhale together with him. If when he skates Seimei, he became Seimei ,played a role and becoming the character, I feel that this program is him, Yuzuru himself, the person whose skating I fell in love with.

I can't remember how many times I sigh when I watch it, for example, when they include the besti squat in the stsq, I sighs so hard at the beauty of it. I never knew what the program was since Yuzu did not explain it before, and back then a nature theme was all he mentioned. But after reading Shae-Lynn's interview, I understand why this program feels even more special to me and it explains the melodramatic feeling I felt when I watch it.
Of course I would love to see it clean someday, but even if that may not happen, this program still hold a special place in my heart. :luv17:

Another video (with slightly different angle after the GPF interview at KnC). This is where he flopped on Brian and Brian just laughed afterwards. You can see Alina Zagitova took picture with Yuzu here too. Oh, and Yuzu made pooh kissed Evgenia, I always thought that Pooh kissed Alina's plushie from a different video, since the angle is not clear

Article : Evgenia Medvedeva : Yuzuru Hanyu for me is the standard of men's figure skating
It is in Russian , if anyone can be kind enough to translate, it would be lovely :luv17:

You can really see the exhaustion on his face in this video--he almost looks drunk when he lifts his head off of Brian. He probably would have liked to leave with Brian instead of having to be gracious and do the selfies with those fawning girls--he finally ends up running from them.

It's funny but also a bit concerning as I think stamina is still an issue for him. I hope he's able to get adequate rest before Nationals.

I found this moment cute. :luv17:
It is evident that his body is adjusting gradually to the 4-quad LP. But in my opinion, i think stamina is not what I am worried for (if anything, it is timing of his 4S combo lol). He doesn't seem as winded as he was (even better than when he did Seimei, who only has 3 quads). He usually gasps for air and just keeps panting when the program is over (even in the kiss and cry), but I did not really see it so much at NHK and GPF, it looks like he adjusted well. I did feel he loses speed nearing the later part of the program (for me evident in the ChSq part), but I am sure it will get better as the season goes on :) Besides, I think a fall takes up a lot of energy, so once he manage to land all his jumps, it would make a difference.

Here is a quote from the Japan Times article:

Hanyu adds to legacy with latest triumph
The plaudits poured in for Hanyu from the experts on his latest accomplishment.

“That was fantastic,” said Eurosport announcer Simon Reed after Hanyu’s short program. “For me the greatest male skater I have ever seen.”

“He has such flare, control, strength, character … he is an immense talent,” added Eurosport analyst Chris Howarth.

CBC commentator Carol Lane said she thinks Hanyu has the ideal body type for skating.

“There is just something about his physicality that makes him totally suited to do every single thing that this sport requires,” noted Lane during Hanyu’s free skate. “He’s so slender and elegant. He almost has a bird-like structure to me that makes him weightless in the air, or appears to make him weightless in the air.”

Lane then pointed out what Ice Time has referred to as Hanyu’s “feathery touch” on his landings.

“He’s a light jumper and a light lander particularly,” Lane stated.

Four-time world champion Kurt Browning, also an analyst for CBC, then said: “That could be handy for longevity in his career.”

Hanyu’s physique looks almost identical to what it was six years ago when he was the world junior champion. It really is amazing.

Reed commented two weeks ago during the NHK Trophy about Hanyu’s strength and I concur. Ice Time estimates that Hanyu’s body fat is just 1 or 2 percent. Though he does not appear outwardly muscular, it looks like he has no fat at all.

According to the website livestrong.com, “male athletes typically have a body fat percentage of between 6 and 13 percent.” But as we have seen, Hanyu is not typical athlete. The strength needed to generate the speed and lift to do four-revolution jumps continuously has to be incredible.

The Sendai native did struggle in the second half of his free skate in Marseille, falling on his quad salchow/triple toe loop combination jump and singling a triple lutz, but still won in decisive fashion.

Nagano Olympic champion Tara Lipinski, an analyst for NBC, believes that Hanyu’s concentration can be an issue at times.

“Sometimes Yuzuru is a wild card,” she said while analyzing his free skate. “It confuses me. He is probably one of the best technicians in the world, which you would think 9 out of 10 times he is going to hit his jumps. But sometimes in the free skates he loses his mental stability a little bit and all of sudden makes these messy landings or starts popping or falling and that just should’t happen with someone so good.”

“I feel very disappointed with my long program but the result is good,” the ISU website quoted Hanyu as saying. “Figure skating is the total of the short program and the free program and I think I had a really good short here, so I’m really happy about that and I think this was a good learning experience. I’ve learned something and gained something and I’ve got my homework to move on with.”

Who estimates this body fat percentage and how precise it is? Hanyu should have some fat in his body for it to be natural, no way he doesn't have it and I think it's visible he does. Otherwise it is not healthy. Also, he's built some muscle mass, he looks quite differennt to his 19-yo self. He needs all of this to execute such a difficult layout.

In my country we say that a boy's body is not finished before the age of around 23-25. That's when they stop growing, so in my country a lot of boys that are around 19-21 and are tall, around 180cm++.
Is often very thin and don't get a lot of muscles before they are in the middle of their 25. Maby that is what happening with Yuzuru, he is no 22 years old.
