"Warm-hearted reactions of two champions:

After the EX rehearsal finished, someone wanted to take photos of Yuzuru with Lumonde (purple packaged cookie by Bourbon), - Yuzuru also seemed to be willing to ;). Asked if anyone of the fans had one. One fan replied yes, but it took her time to find it in her bag. Yuzuru was patiently waiting, talking with me and other cameramen not to rush her. Then, everyone took lots of photos of smiling Yuzuru and Lumonde :laugh2:

Silly old men including me surrounding the calm 22-year old champion had come to notice something. "Could we use these photos?"

"Does anyone have XYLITOL of Lotte?"

"Yes, I do!" replied Medevedeva. Oh, Jenya, you understand Japanese?

"That lady gave it to me :laugh:" There was a fan waving her hand. Very fun and amusing moment after the competition.

The after story. I tried to give the Lumonde back to the fan, but Yuzuru walked to her and handed it back saying "Arigato gozaimashita." That fan had nearly got teary-eyed being moved during the shooting time, but she was just like struck by a thunder. I said to her "You are lucky having such a good souvenir", but I was not sure she was listening.

Anyway, it was such a great time."
 
Schedule for the Nats is out.

SP is on Friday, 17:25 - 21:15 (practice earlier that day 11:45 - 14:45)
FS is on Saturday, 17:55 - 21:45 (practice earlier that day 9:50 - 12:45)

Brian said he advised Yuzuru to do 4S 4T in the sp instead of 4lo after SC but Yuzuru was against it, saying he needs to do 4Lo now, and make all the mistake this season, so next year he doesn't need to go through this. Brian ended up agreeing with him and thought he was right, that it is not important to win skate canada and it is more important to do more 4Lo in competition under pressure. Mentioned how competitive Yuzuru is and how he also landed quad lutzes, thus he said the jump was on the horizon for Yuzuru. But at the same time, they are being cautious about injury especially since it is approaching the olympic season.

So far this one is what caught my attention the most, lol.

I thought Brian's discussion of the "boardroom" meeting between him, Tracy, Yuzu and other members of Yuzu's team following the Autumn Classic was the big news of that interview--and I think interviewer Nick thought so too. It confirms the suspicion by many of us that Brian's relationship with Yuzu has suffered since Worlds. Brian also acknowledged that the strain between them had a negative impact on Yuzu's skating and that his skating got a lot better following their meeting.

That is not really new though. The talk between Brian and Yuzu has been reported since NHK thropy. Several news article mentioned this and Brian himself said it in an interview with the Japanese Media (there was a video of it). Even Yuzuru himself talked about this in the NHK trophy press conference, and someone in this thread had translated it if I am not wrong. Yuzuru said that after the talk he felt the training became more effective because they both are now aiming the same thing.
There are other things mentioned in the podcast like how his coaching with Yuzu is, how Yuzu is a private person, Yuzu's relationship with Javi, how there were language barrier between them etc but most of these have been mentioned in past interviews or articles.

I forgot other interesting thing I considered new, it is Brian's plan to change his training schedule and regimen for his skaters approaching the olympic. He said they are not used to skating in the morning, so he will alter the training schedule (even put dark shade in the training place or something? I quite didn't catch it).

30 for the SP, it gets cut down by 6 for the FS, so 24.
The last group starts around 20:30, a tad later but thereabout should be safe enough, providing he's in it but we'll know in advance.

The draw for Nationals is usually super random right? Just like worlds? If I am not wrong, last year for the SP, Yuzuru's was live but I don't remember how the FS was. 24 people would take about 4 hours per discipline, so 8 for men and ladies. I don't expect them to air everything live, I think.

It sounded as it was something really though to talk about for Brian. I liked the bit where they said that they hugged at the end and everything. My guess is that the costume the tipping point, "He doesn't even tell me about his costumes". At least, if Brian wasn't being polite, it wasn't anything nasty just a lack of communication, which i think might have been something to do with his injury: the frustration feelings, the uncertainity, the fact that he did think that Boston was his last skate ever... Things like that can accumulate and poison you from the inside to the point where you stop saying anything and communicating important things. I wish i'm wrong and just trying to reach a conclusion and it was something else, because if i'm right would mean that Yuzu was horribly, horribly depressed :(. I'm glad they sorted it out♥, and it certainly shows that Brian does care for Yuzu and pays attention to him, i loved when he said how proud he felt for him :)

Language nerd talk: Omg now i totally get Yuzu's english: he sounds so much like Brian! I guess it's because he's the person he talks to the most? I'm glad that Brian said too that the language barrier isn't much of a problem anymore

More like news, i feel like Brian conveyed how serious the issue was in this interview. I had read about that too, but i got a more lighthearted impression from what Yuzu said? Brian made it sound as if it was a bit more serious and difficult.
I found really interesting what he said about training Javi and Yuzu, and how they have to "read" them before the actual training starts to know who they have to focus on more.
Lol@Brian saying "i hope Javier takes Yuzu out before the Olympics", but i agree with him, he sounds like he's a bit secluded in Toronto and :( maybe is just me that i need to go out every day even if it's just to buy groceries, but that can't be good for you! I bet he would have tons of fun with Javi :D
It was really great to know how they are already planning something to adjust them to the Olympics schedule, i guess we won't have to worry about them not being used to skate in the morning :), Brian did say that they would cover the windows and make them adjust to the schedule ("Make them go to sleep at 3pm, take lots of vitamin D" :laugh2: i can show them a few tricks hahaha, if i'm left to my own schedule, i naturally shift to a nocturnal life :laugh2: )

They don't air everything live, I remember that from the previous years, that's for sure. I expect they'd want to cover Yuzuru's group as well as Shoma's, but I suppose it's not such a big deal for the short, if one of them ends up in the early groups, to air it later. Yes, it should be random so who knows where he'll end up!
Hopefully somewhere later, so that we can catch it though Friday's not ideal for me in any case, I'll probably rely on YT.

Lol, yes. Brian does make it sound a bit more serious (though he did say in the podcast it was nothing nasty or mean). Brian did not even mention what they were talking about, while Yuzuru actually did. I am guessing he is being careful about how much he can disclose about Yuzu. While in the press conference Yuzuru mentioned part of the talk, that it was about his training approach, how Brian and Tracy wanted him to work on total package but he said there is no way he can work on that unless he nailed his jumps. So they eventually agreed to work and focus more on the jumps. I am sure they talked about more than just this, but I think this (and the lack of communication) might be the main thing they discussed about.

Yuzuru said that he is an introvert; and as an introvert myself, I would dislike having someone to force me to go out socializing. That's just how we are lol, we prefer spending our free time alone and enjoying ourselves. For some it could be playing games, reading books or maybe watching movies alone. Haha. But that does not mean we are anti-social. :laugh: For us meeting people could feel more tiring and stressful than enjoying our free time alone. :p

Me too. It is definitely not anti-social; just about personal preference. I prefer to spend most of my free time at home by myself as no matter I like or not I have to spend a minimum 10 hours outside of home from Mon to Fri.

I am an introvert too, i don't like big groups of people and when i do go out i feel really tired afterwards so i do understand. I love having me time, it's been a while since i've been at my house, just chilling with my PC (which is why i've been posting mainly from work), but i don't like to be in the house for long periods of time.
More than going out socializing, which somehow is something i can't picture him doing in Canada, i feel it would be good to have something more than just a skating life, Brian said that Yuzu's life looks like it's just skating and it was actually a bit mean that he said he'd rather have them out than having them inside the house playing videogames all day HMMMM :laugh:.
Yuzu said that Toronto is nice and everything, but he still likes Japan the best: I know he loves his home country to death(i wish i could say the same about mine...) but he would have another outlook if he saw the city in another light, not necessarily with a large group of people, maybe just Javi and his esposa :)

Brian only said that he wanted to hear his feelings from the heart, so it's clear they didn't just talk about skating. The important thing here is that whatever they did, it has worked and hopefully Yuzu and Mama Orser will never have to do this again. It probably is a cultural thing, but i hope that if it is, Yuzu understands "Ok, normally i don't do this but here with Mama Orser is different so i can say whatever i feel!"

Actually he only said that about Javier. For Yuzu he said it's mostly skating and his university studies during his off time. Yuzu is a big videogame fan, but I wonder if he has much time to play given that he studies, too. Didn't he say he found something good out of his connecting flight to Marseille being delayed because he got a lot of time to play? :laugh:

A thread for introverts occasionally ridden by anxiety. Great place to be!
I have to say I get horribly tired meeting crowds of people I've nothing to do with. Crowds of people I know is ok-ish, if it doesn't last long. Otherwise, give me a book. :)
And if you add the food factor to that - the need to be choosy and picky, because you can't consume any thing - things get worse.

Well, I personally don't find it as a problem. If Yuzuru is happy and content with it, I guess it is fine. He did say he needs to be alone and not let the external environment bother him because he is someone who is easily affected by it. So if he thinks this is how he should be, and it works for him, I don't really see it as a bad thing.

Honestly, I doubt if they have discourse and disconnect, that this will be the last. However, this is completely normal in a coaching relationship. You are bound to have disagreement and miscommunication, more than once. Especially for Yuzuru and TCC team, where language and cultural background are also a barrier here.
I feel like people have general idea that coach-pupil relationship is supposed to be completely close, heartfelt and something like a parental relationship, and anything other than that is less than ideal. I see this among Yuzuru fans too, how there are groups who portrayed the opposite extreme of his coaching dynamics: those who think they are completely distant and is not a good match for each other or those who think they are completely close. It is astonishing that some people went "gasps, omg, they have a discourse. Brian is bad for him" or the opposite "no they are completely fine,they never have problem". Like, of course there will be problem, I used to fight with my coach weekly, but this is nothing that is too deep. As long as there is still mutual trust and respect, it should eventually be fine.

I don't expect him to go out every weekend or every other weekend :laugh: and it didn't sound like Brian was referring to that either :) I have many theories, but i love this kid to death (in case you couldn't tell by now :laugh2:) so i will keep them to myself for now, his personality has a lot to do with that but i doubt is just the "introvert" part...

Every relationship has problems, i am well aware of that. Is just that this time was really apparent and it was negatively affecting his skating, and who knows since when they were like that, some said that after World's, if it was like that then my comment still stands: I hope they never have to do that again, in the sense of letting it go unresolved for so long, and IIRC we agreed that it was probably something cultural if it was the case, so that's why i said that i hope they both understood that if this is going to keep on going and want good results, they must be completely honest and speak what it's on their minds.
