Except that, since forever, that's always been exactly what it takes to make elite athletes?

I mean...

I feel that recenty we're having a lot of people who don't realise the amount of work that goes into making all these athletes so we can enjoy ourselves for a few minutes during their programs.

If they don't do other stuff, it's not necessarily because they don't want to, it's because, if they want to get to that level, they don't have a choice. They have to work the whole day, every single day (Sundays often do not exist for elite athletes), for over 20 years of their lives.

That's what makes these people exceptional.

You don't get a Yuzu with three hours of training per week. You don't get a Phelps by swimming a couple of hours during the week.

You get people like them because their whole life revolves around their sport. They breath it, they eat it, they bath in it. It consumes their lives, quite litteraly.

To think otherwise is fooling yourself and insulting their dedication.

Stop pitying him, start appreciating the sacrifice instead.

Do you really need to get that offensive? Msteach post was perfectly fine, they were just concerned about Yuzuru, you made good points about the training necessecity but why to attack someone who politely voices their opinion?

Actual definition of the word introvert : a shy, reticent person. a person predominantly concerned with their own thoughts and feelings rather than with external things.

Err I am pretty sure this is a dictionary definition when you google what introvert is. I'm not an expert. but in psychological perspective i think it is not as simple as that (just like how general population misuse the words sociopath/psychopath) . This is the reason why many are misinformed about the term introvert itself in my opinion. That said, I am a bit appalled by the amount of people thinking that being an introvert is a negative thing. It is fine to be one and you don't need to change yourself to be an extrovert if that is who you are.
About Yuzuru, either he is one or not, as long as he is happy and comfortable with his life, I don't see it as a problem. This is the life he chose and it came with its own perks and sacrifices. He is still very young (22!) and competitive skating has a very short lifespan. Even if he retires at 27, he will still be young and he will have all the time to play and do what he cannot do while he is actively competing. Since what he wants now is to win and to push the sport, he should do what he feel is suitable to achieve those goals. I would like to think he knows what is best for himslef. :)

While Lysambre made no particular effort to "dress up" their post, I didn't think it was actually offensive, or an attack.

It was blunt, but I thought it contained good and true points...

I think the main problem between him and bo is the culture difference. By reading their interviews I can tell a lot, it's just how different japanese and canadian are. Sometimes it's not really because yuzu is "introverted" or whatever. And just saying by "asian standard", he is not introverted, definitely not. He might seems introverted to western culture (especially north americans), but that's really just how asian people are...

that's so true! I've never considered myself as an "introvert" until I went abroad for further studies. Friends of mine always think I am not too into socialising (i.e. parties and clubbing). It's the cultural difference that account for the difference in perception but yeah I called myself an Introverted Extrovert. Human beings are complex animals so one word never define a person

I wonder if he wasn't living with his mom (which at 22 would seem reasonable) he would reach out more to others he knows at the rink such as Javi, or maybe would make friends outside of the rink. His English seems to be good enough to communicate with a non-Japanese speaker and being in Toronto he wouldn't be hounded by media if he went to a restaurant or movie with friends. It makes me sad to think that as a young man he trains, studies and that's it. :sad46:

This is true too. I'm an Asian studying abroad since I was small. My mum was so worried about me that she accompanied me in the first year. It did affect my social life to a certain extent - I didn't often invite friends over since it would be awkward for both my friends and my mum (my mum really is an introvert, like Yuzu's mother). But it is also nice to have someone that you love and rely on with you when you are in such a foreign and unknown environment. It was really lonely at first for me, i know how that feels. Not that people around me are not nice, but I felt that I didn't fit in because of the culture barrier. While I believe that he would reach out more if he were living alone, I guess I can understand Yuzu's decision since his mum also takes care of his health and daily life. He's an athlete after all.

As a semi-otaku, I can confirm that I still have lots of fun staying at home. I wouldn't be bored as long as I have my computer with me

Introverts loses energy to people. Sometimes introverts are assumed to be aloof but you must imagined like in a video game, when an introvert meets another person, the energy bar immediately starts reducing. And if that companion is an extrovert and likes to talk, the bar drops faster.

Extroverts likes to absorb energy from people. The more they interact with people, the faster the energy bar increases. Some extroverts cannot bear to be alone because their energy reduces when there is no one around.

On the other hand, the energy of introverts increase when they are alone. Introverts do not necessarily likes to be alone all the time. They are perfectly happy with someone else is in the room but do not disturb them. The companion's presence is enough for them. Extroverts on the other hand feels they must talk to people.

Both introverts and extroverts are suitable for different types of job. One is not better or worse than the other. They are just different.

I don't think we're pitying him, it's more like we worry about him, which is something completely different. And in any case, Brian himself said that he'd like if Javi took him out sometime, so is not like is something unreasonable or anything since he said that Javi doesn't have much of a social life either, but he does have one. If anything, Brian might be bit worried about that part too if he felt the need to say something about it.

Yuzuru is doing exactly what he wants to do. He loves figure skating, and really fortunately he is talented in that sport. I'm sure he would laugh if he is told that someone is feeling pity or sorry for that. He devotes himself in skating, and he is rewarded for his efforts, while so many others are not. Real geniuses do not mind concentrating in training. That's why they are geniuses. Yuzuru once said he is thankful to his parents as they gave him the body and mental he has now.

We fans just hope he does not push himself too much

So!

Do we think Yuzuru likes pancakes? Or does he maybe prefer the sublime delicacy that is a proper crêpe? :agree2:

Probably crêpes? He has said he doesn't like chocolate cake, which is deliciously rich most of the time, but rather, strawberry shortcake which has a more delicate flavour.
So my guess is crêpes

Now we are asking the real questions :rofl2:
I'm guessing crepes, too. But perhaps they are not as easy to come across as pancakes?

Food questions are the only worthy questions :agree2:

He could probably be talked into at least trying one of these

Ah, crêpes in the majority so. Heaven. Yes, I absolutely agree. I also want to make some now. Though I don't do those Pami linked to, my own little house specialty is nutella and bananas, with on rare occasions some ground biscuits in the nutella. I think even Yuzu would like them though his 5% body fat would shoot up before he could blink. Though if he's ever in need of a quick 4 to 5 movement, I'm here with my nutella crêpes.

Someone tie my hands please now :palmf:

Actually he's never said he doesn't like chocolate cake, just that he doesn't usually have it (seems their family usually has shortcake aka Asian sponge cake). He loves chocolate so I'm sure he likes chocolate cake, he just doesn't normally eat it.

My guess though would be those thick type of Japanese pancakes I see Oda eating all the time.

Maybe you should elaborate before people wonder why you think that he eats Dutch babies.......

 Dutch Baby Pancakes

*Disclaimer: they are NOT made with babies of dutch descent nor any other origin. :eeking:
