Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

We know current Yuzuru is practicing 4lz. So that makes 4 types of quads. It's a big deal for his body already. And then he says he wants to try 4A... I feel like I need a second heart for that. I wonder how much Brian has to deal with Yuzuru honestly. Poor that man lol.

whenever I see the footage of Brian watching his skaters perform, I just wonder he's got the nerves for that. Yuzu especially!

Lol. Actually, if you listen to his icetalk interview, he seemed just as chill and YOLO about it as Yuzuru when they were discussing 4Lz and 4A. I wonder what they talked about that his attitude in these quad-chasing completely change in a short time. He seemed to be extra exasperated about the focus on 4Lo before. But now he is like "4Lz? Why not? definitely on the horizon. 4A? who knows? probably?" LOL. And that IN interview when he was asked about 4Slo4S he seemed casual too like "yeah I have seen it before. he does that kind of stuff in practices you know. you know what? saw 4A too."
I personally thought 4Lo is more strenuous to the body than the 4Lz, so maybe it is not a bad idea if he mastered it one day.

I'm not that fussed over the 4Lz (and I can't believe I actually typed that!! but I am genuinely not), it's the 4A that makes me balk. I think that talk, whatever it was, between Brian and Yuzuru helped a lot of things. At least both of them sound that way now. I mean I imagine if they found a compromise over training and Brian feels secure enough, as much as you can be, in terms of safety (so harness) then it's a stress relief for him and a way to let off steam for Yuzuru. Of course, Yuzuru, so there's bound to be a YOLO here and there but I'm surprisingly positive about his health these days. I am still not entirely sure about the health of Brian's hair though with those occasional surprises

You know, if Yuzuru had been around Plushy's time, with someone like Mishin, well then. That would have been a pretty pickle.

Nah, quints aren't happening but that didn't stop Plushy from trying them. Seriously, not surprised one bit he's in the state he is.

But Yuzuru is not going to give up on that 4A. Aside now whether we believe it's possible or not, I personally think it is but regardless, his interviews, his personality, his drive and thirst? Oh he is not giving up. He's going to practice that baby. In that case I think Brian has one recourse only - let him. But under certain conditions and honestly I think that's the best we, and he, are going to get. Harness and safety first, and that hopefully for the most part satisfies Yuzuru's needs. What happens later, happens, whether he gets it or not but at least he's as safe as possible practicing it even if he does pop off a surprise one here or there. It's the best one can get IMO plus I have extra stashes of chocolate for our nerves.

Idealistically, I hope he will retire at the age of 25. Further than that, I am not sure his body can stand it, especially he can't come back to 1-2 quads per program. How do you image a 27 year old body training 4-5 quads LP? It's just too much. I don't believe.

I can't say a thing about the 4A except that I believe he is going to keep on trying it. My best guess is post Olympics, he'll truly zero in on it. He wants it but I think he knows he has to be rational, so 4Lz and all that has priority now.

I can't say a thing about the 4A except that I believe he is going to keep on trying it. My best guess is post Olympics, he'll truly zero in on it. He wants it but I think he knows he has to be rational, so 4Lz and all that has priority now.

I'm guessing post-Olympics too. Brian probably uses the Olympics as a reason to keep Yuzu rational and away from 4A
In my wildest dreams, I'd love to see a clean 4A from him before he retires.

I really don't think this is an 'accepted his fate' thing Depsite what some people might say - just look at the way Brian looks at Yuzu sometimes, how invested he is when Yuzu skates... he loves the boy. He cares about him so much. Brian isn't perfect either, nobody is, but I'm sure he's still doing anything to keep Yuzu as safe as possible. And if Mama Brian is so chill about the 4Lz, then I think it's because they are doing everything they can to make Yuzu practice it as safe as possible and because Brian is seeing too that it is simply within Yuzu's grasp. All quads are dangerous, but so is this sport in general, you can just be as good as possible - and come on, Yuzu is! (And now I've made myself all excited about seeing Mama + Yuzu again )

Sorry for the random gushing, but Christmas for my family always involves alcohol and I can always go for some random Yuzu & mama gushing :luv17:
