Hi to everyone:)! I do not know you have already read this analysis of Yuzu's 4L in the short programme at the GPF of Marseille: http://bit.ly/2idQf1E

What do you think about it?

I don't really understand enough technically to analyze this properly. But I question whether being too tilted in the air is the cause of a flawed jump, or the symptom of something flawed earlier in the approach/takeoff. Is the author saying he should not bend forward to start the jump? How would he perform it otherwise? I don't see a concrete suggestion for improvement here :scratch2:

Yeah... I would find more interesting had the author compared various attempts for that jump (it's not like Yuzu landed it only in that SP, after all...)
Even just comparing if there was any concrete difference between 4Lo in SP vs 4Lo in FP would have helped.
As it is, I found that analysis quite unfocused, while with just a bit more of comparison among different 4Lo would have made it a big difference.

Even when the author mentions Chen's 4Lz, it would have been interesting to point out how Yuzu's angle is on his other quads (it is similar to 4Lo or it is closer to Chen's? Aka is that angle something similar in all Yuzu's jumps or is it a "one-off" for that 4Lo?)

I think those kind of analysis have great potential, but the way that article is written threw away basically all of it.

Well, Yuzuru could retire after 2020 and then become an ice dancer
He could compete at the olympics 2022 and 2026 again :hap10:

I would love to watch Yuzuru as an ice dancer, but i would miss him as an worrier in competitions, for his brave frontier challenges.:luv17:

So I hope for him competing at the Olympics until he wants to stop challenging.

It looks like that the Russian ladies are fond of Prince :luv17:Yuzuru. I want to watch him ice-dancing with them.

As Yuzu is the one to be lifted, there's going to be more than one lady... so are we turning him into a synchronous skater?

Since they all want him, they can alternate and then the winner, the one who mashes the best with him (or you know who survives after Zhenya is done with them ;)) gets to conquer Olympics with him as his partner

They'll never get to be a true dancing pair at this rate... :)
But anyway, the matter is who lifts who then? or do they do away with lifts altogether?

Yuzu actually mentioned about the angle in an interview after GPF aired in Hodo Station. He said he became less afraid of quad loops because the angle of his upper body had become quite stabilized. After his comment there were some supplementary explanations from Shizuka Arakawa and Nobunari Oda. According to them, the right angle varies for each skater, and skaters tend to tilt their upper body too much trying to rotate or jump higher especially when they attempt difficult jumps.
Yuzu probably knows his right angle already because he has landed it successfully in practice, so in this case, as beki said in earlier post, the angle is more like a symptom than a problem itself, I think.
But this sort of analysis is interesting and must be helpful sometimes for skaters trying to figure out their problems.

Pooh could not match his lines, though, and that is essential for dance. Mismatched body types for dance.

I also can't analyze it, but as much as I understood from this, it's the symptom. At takeoff instead of the more tilted 47° a +10° would be more ideal, in this case his angle in the air would be also less tilted (around 20° instead of 26°), and the the consequence of this would be the better landing (angle of the jump's ending would be 8° instead of 10°).
It would be great if he compared various 4Los, maybe later in the season there will be more of them.
Anyway I find these kind of analysis really interesting and I learn from these a lot.

Hi back!
Interesting analysis. But as many has pointed out, it is quite incomplete, in a sense that, Yuzuru actually has many quad loops that is landed well (and caught on video too, mostly from practice though, his 4Lo landed in competition so far is not yet ideal). I think it will be more complete and beneficial when this is compared with his quad loops that actually work out and well-landed. This similar analysis has been carried out by a Japanese TV show too, mentioning his angle when taking off being too tilted and iirc they compare it with his 4Lo in open practice? But I don't remember well I might be wrong.
Anyway, since he knows how to land it right and has done so many times, I think it is probably mental and muscle memory issue. Another interesting thing is, during OP, Brian mention something about how he should cross his feet below the knee, not above the knee (if you notice, in the video he seemed to cross his leg above the knee). So interestingly in order for a 4Lo to work out, there seem to be many tiny details that should be paid attention to. :)

I agree Yuzuru should be lifted  as I can't imagine him lifting anyone...

Plus, the liftee gets to show off his/her lines/assets... ;)

A preview of the SOI koi-dance. I'm :tantrum::tantrum: over the lack of Yuzu in this. Holographic Yuzu for koi dance XD

But agreed the quad loop analysis would have been cool to see more instances of the loop (when he falls, when he lands cleanly, etc). Something like what he did for Rika Kihara's 3A :)
