Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Ah seeing people here have already bought tickets for Pyeongchang makes me worried, Korean residents are only able to enter the lottery (me and my friend have entered maybe 5 times because some friends are helping us, we are aiming for A seats for the men's SP and B seats for the men's LP. My friend will be travelling from Poland to see Yuzu so she's not going the settle for not-so-good seats) but not actually buy tickets until the general sales open later this year :gaah:
I won't find out if we got anything in the lottery until May :sad46:

H&L for me is the antithesis of that phenomenon so I have a confession to make, this season I didn't even watch repeatedly most of his FS practices because it wasn't necessary, for me he's fulfilling most of my expectations of that program at the actual competition. I know some people thought that 4CC FS had the performance aspect toned down but surprisingly I don't share this sentiment, especially after watching 384829 fancams, this one being my favourite. I see some choreographic changes like after the 3F, but for me they received the attention they deserved.

To be blunt, the main reason we're hearing/reading that comment about the toned down performance so often is because it's Yuzu. He was mainly more in fighting mode compared to what might be expected for H&L, but he still performed it well, just differently. But because of what people know he can do, he's often measured against a higher standard IMO. It's not really fair, but it's what happens with the top skaters sometimes.

My friend from Poland roped in every other person living in Korea she knows to enter the lottery for her (and me) haha. If we fail lottery I'll be trying on the Korean September general sales but I'm hoping we will get something on lottery.

That happens to his jumps too. For H&L, I know softness was expected based on his previous performances. But apart from his more restrained movements with his back, I liked the attack in the 4CC version and I think there's room for a warrior in the program. I would love if he kept some of that for Helsinki.

Ya, she's one of Eteri's kids but not Zhenia's sister, zhenia is the only child. Just same surname

I love the attack in the 2nd half of 4cc HL. The music towards the end demands more strength so it was my favourite performance to date. He can be gentle and calm in the first half, but the ending really needs extra full on energy to leave a more powerful impression. I understand that it is to be a more whimsical program, but there is strength in that too.... and i like the subtle transition from gentle to strong. From the ina bauer to the ending pose was my favourite sequence. It brought to mind his never say die spirit which is what caught me in 2012 (the defiant look he gave the judges after he finished his lp at Worlds is what specifically won me). I hope keeps that bit of aggression for Helsinki.

I fell in love all over again with Yuzuru when I saw what he did at the 4CC and this performance he gave of H&L is my favourite too for the reasons you mention. When I saw that programme live at the GPF I loved the gentle first half (and I could see the expression on his face from very close, whch was lovely) but the second part wasn't as enthralling (he slowed down a lot which gave a more laboured impression). I must confess that the young ones (Shoma and Nathan) had been more exciting to watch. But here, gosh I wish I had been at the 4CC because I love that fire and that fighting spirit he showed us. This is one of the reasons I've been so attracted to his skating in the first place, and it is as if he had finally given complete life to this programme. I can't wait for Worlds now and see if it will happen again!

There is this interview translated by someone at FSuniverse. It was quite old, in 2013, when Hanyu was not yet an olympic+ world +gpf champion or 10x world record breaker. She spoke of many skaters here though. But it is memorable how she said Yuzuru is like a beautiful girl on ice (before people get pissed I am sure she meant this as a compliment). She also thought even when his arms look carelessly thrown, it looks natural (lol maybe that's why her skaters do the same )

I think she referred to that Morozov and/or Mishin interview. Also TAT and Grishin was not very fond of him at the beginning too. But hey, they changed their mind that is all that matters.

Raf gave an interview to Ice Talk with Nathan after US Nationals this year, and the fact he doesn't smile much was mentioned. There was one time he did smile, and that was when Yuzu skated his Seimei at GPF 2015, which he didn't do even when Nathan won the JGPF that year, because Yuzu's performance was what skating was all about or something like that. I'm paraphrasing. So yes, I do think Raf was genuine asking for Yuzu's autograph, especially considering what Yuzu did. You gotta admire someone who gets within less than 4 points overall of your champion student with 2 quads less in the competition.

They answered correctly :agree: thank you guys. Wow, i didn't have any thought into there. I think it's just funny he openly 'fanboy' Yuzuru when Yuzu is competitor to his student. Well, i'm jokingly thought about potential voodoo though lol.
Yes, i listened to raf's icenetwork podcast. He talked about he didn't smile when nathan won jgpf but smiled when watched yuzu at GPF 2015.
