I wouldn't be mad if the yolo 3a was here to stay for worlds, regardless of if he pops the 4s3t (or whatever he puts there if he changes the combo). So long as he has the energy for it and is feeling good... He's like the 3a master and it's a brilliant end to the program (if he can repeat it)

But it would mean doing a 4T combo, which due to his injury he doesn't want to do?

I can't wait to see the 4Lz because it's gonna be gorgeous.

There is that.

 truly I don't want him to change anything. I just want him to skate the best he can and not get injured preferably give us a clean skate at worlds so he can have a little confidence boost to carry through to next season

I do want to see the 4Lz but I agree that he doesn't need to rush into changing anything. As it is now, people are like "Yuzu should add more quads!!" but if Shoma and Nathan start becoming inconsistent everybody's gonna be like "I told you so, there's no way doing 5 quads in one LP is good for the body, Yuzu made the smart choice to stay healthy." And right now there's no reason to believe with a high degree of certainty that they will maintain consistency. If they stay consistent and Yuzu loses at Worlds with clean skate the scoring system would be so broken, then so be it...Yuzu needs to trust his body and training and take this at his own pace.

I find it very very very hard to conceive how Yuzu would be outscored at worlds if he puts out 2 clean skates. If anyone did it would be either be a mind melting performance no one could argue with or it would be a class 5 sh*tstorm.

Well just a few weeks ago I feel like a lot of us would say it would be hard to believe Yuzu could lose if he landed four quads in one free skate :noshake:

Well, if he hadn't popped the sal in the sp too he would've won  Nathan had a strong SP and Yuzu had a big mistake in his. Similarly if Nathan had only landed 4 out of his 5 he might not have won, but he had 2 clean skates when yuzu didn't, (even if some of his landings were a bit crunchy. If it comes down to nathan clean and yuzu clean, yuzu wins on pcs and goe unless nathan alters his program a bit and is perfect rather than just clean, which is a bit much to ask of a 17 year old).

I love HL. I really hope Yuzu can present it in the way he wants.
I get HL from the first sight I saw his OP in Montreal.

Though Shae-Lynn explained this program in her way, I myself have a lot of pictures in mind when watching this program before that.
In my imaginary, at first he is a new born fairy in the forest, happily playing in with animals, wind, flowers, creeks with pure joy. The stsq in the first half is so beautiful and your heart are dancing with his body movement.

And in the 2nd half, I think the fairy is somehow endure a process like breaking a cocoon and became an adult butterfly. (Should be stronger than butterfly , with strong wings that can lift him high in the sky ) (the 4S3T part, actually I really love the music and the chore here, it just give the feeling that he will break the cocoon and evolve, and it turned out to be a block for him now, I am confident he will break this finally)

And then the music is not as lighthearted as the 1st half, since as being an adult fairy, you have more responsibility and encounter with more enemies difficulties, the fairy fight to protect the forest. And the chsq part, it remind me a poetry like “Not defeated by rain, not defeated by wind” ( 雨にも負けず、風にも負けず), and finally a happy ending~

first, the fairy born as the hope of this forest, and then the fairy protect the forest and left so many legacy.

That is my feeling of this program. I really love it, and it is not dramatic, but it has its own philosophy. Like a poetry like a masterpiece of picture, you can see a lot of things through it. Plot driven movies are easy to draw ppl to watch, I just feel pity for those who think art film is empty and boring.

So jealous :noshake::slink:

This heartwarming/cute little snippet as recounted by a Japanese fan, @shiromioy

About ten years ago, a bunch of little skaters were soliciting signatures for a petition on Sendai’s main street Ichibancho. The skating rink in Sendai had failed financially, and there were no place for them to practice. One of them was Yuzuru Hanyu.

I was back from living abroad, and for some reason I knew that there was a young skating prodigy in Sendai. I thought I might as well sign the petition. It’s somewhat rare to see young male skaters, so I said to the cutest one amongst the three 10-ish-year-olds lined up there, “As you would expect from Sendai! There are quite a few boys here!” He was so nervous he froze on the spot and didn’t answer.

Without missing a beat, the child beside him with a kokeshi doll and mochi-like face answered smoothly, “I suppose so! The boys work so hard~but now they can’t train~ Sendai is the root of figure skating in Japan too, such a shame, I really don’t understand," ending with a pout.

Eyes creased, he was smiling as he talked about this sad incident.

He was quite clearly thinking, “This person knows the history of Sendai’s figure skating but doesn’t know me. What I should do right now is increase the petition count~” There was a sparkle in his eyes, and cleverness that surprised me.

After I signed, I asked my friend who lives in Sendai, “Isn’t there a young skating genius in Sendai?” My friend answered in surprise, “You mean Yuzuru Hanyu, right? That was the boy in the middle who spoke.” I turned around, he was already surrounded by Sendai aunties and drowned in the crowd.

At that time, both Japan and Sendai were at rock-bottom in regression. I felt so sorry that perhaps his wish to restore the rink wouldn’t come true. I was an adult, but I wasn’t able to do anything.

In my memory, the cute one was Hino Ryuju. Next to him was Hanyu, and beside him was Tanaka Keiji. It made sense that Hanyu was there, but why were the other two also in Sendai? I couldn’t ever make sense of that, and it’s somewhat vague in my memory.

All three of them were wearing black jerseys with gold from the shoulder to the back and at the wrist. I have no doubt about that part.

But still, the ice rink closed and Sendai’s year-round rink disappeared.

Then, Arakawa Shizuka got the gold medal and resurrected the rink through her remarks at the press conference.

From the bottom of my heart, I was amazed at the power of this gold medal. I’ve always wondered about the impression that gold medal left upon those kids petitioning on Ichibancho that winter day.

And then, the great earthquake happened. When I learned that the ice rink had collapsed and that Hanyu was running around Japan looking for places to train, I felt so frustrated and sad that I couldn’t do anything. To this day, I still feel sorry about that.

Digression. Seeing his image after a long time, I was surprised “Oh! That young boy, was a girl?!” My mom, “Somehow kokeshi doll grew up to look like a girl, didn’t he?"

When he got the gold medal at Sochi and said “I realize I still couldn’t do anything.” I think he meant it, truly, from heart. No matter how hard he wished for it and tried as a child, his rink shuttered in front of his eyes. But with a single Olympic gold medal, the ice rink was revived. I wonder what dream he was hoping to fulfill with his gold medal?

This all came to mind because of the article about his donations to the ice rink, and also the 7th anniversary of the Tohoku earthquake coming up. I thought there might be people who’d be delighted with this tale from Hanyu’s childhood. I am now his fan, and I started my Twitter account because of him.

I'll be there as well, and maybe with a few gifts ;).

I love that improved Ina Bauer, with the hands right on the music, and I will miss it forever and ever, but I'll sacrifice it for a non-popped, actually landed 3Lz/YOLO 3A.

I loved it too, it was such a noticeable lovely deatil... I hope he brings it back.

I'm going too)

Yuzu's skating has improved quite a bit since he was young, his programs as a teen are wild in their energy to me. He was unrefined and it took him a few years to get to the point he has been at for awhile. He has continued to improve year by year and that is one of the things that makes Yuzu so incredible and it is something younger skaters should look up to.

I don't think it is fair to compare now Yuzu to now Nathan, but that is the nature of what happens when a young competitor beats a seasoned vetran.

I'm such a wierdo on this forums being a huge Yuzu fan and a huge Nathan fan...

Lol no you are not, I actually like Nathan too. I kind of/sort of follow him during his junior years (he has already been prodigious since then) though I admit his focus on jumps nowadays left me not excited at all. Not just because it affect his skating, but boy he just did a hip surgery and I'll be honest I am conflicted with his choice to pursuit these quads. But maybe because I used to follow him, I am not as excited as the others are. They seem to already crown him the next big thing and forgot how slippery ice is and how unexpected things could happen. (and some people jumping on his bandwagon mildly annoy me because I know some of them just do that because they want to see the incumbent top men going down) :hopelessness:

Quite the contrary, though I watched skating casually on and off since early 2000s, I had only been a Yuzu uber around last season. I think his skating growth post-sochi is just otherwordly and exponential. In all honesty, he is the embodiment of what I want to see in men's figure skating and how the ideal men's FS should be. Superb jump, superb spin, superb SS, and though these are more subjective, I think his performance and interpretation is outstanding too, his skating style is just so my style. :luv17:

Also, about comparing them, though I agree that his potential as a skater should not be judged only by what he put out now, I think he still should be compared to his current rival in his current state; because he is not competing with 17 y.o Yuzuru or 17 y.o patrick either. :)

whole post

I'm all for the drama and the pretty. basically the chanyu :dbana:
Come here let me give you a hug my twin :ghug:

Same, I like Chan too (though not in the same dimension as Hanyu). He is my 2nd fave skater after Yuzu from currently competing men, I think. It's funny because sometimes I think Chan's jumping skill/technique is underrated since he has/had horrible 3A and great SS while for Yuzuru it is the opposite, his superb SS is often overlooked because of his jumping prowess (and people comparing his edges to Chan's). ;)
