No, Yuzu cannot go as an underdog, unfortunately. Everyone knows what he is capable of, he has his WRs for a reason... and he puts the pressure on himself by fully expecting to deliver and win if he delivers. Sometimes I wish he would not proclaim that he is there to take back the title, or that if he skates cleanly he will win because I swear the skate gods are listening and like to put people in their places!! But, he is who he is, we love him for it, and it cannot be changed.

among the top six, only Yuzu who is not the National Champion, so can Yuzu finally going to Worlds as underdog please? not the one to lose

I mean, his subpar performance at GPF, WD from Nats and clomplete his 3rd Silver medal collection from 4CC are his answear to naysayer about his so called 'bad' habit to peak too early.

all of those happen are not for nothing, it's to win the godd*** Worlds, no?

He hasn't been treated as an underdog since 2014, and formalities aside he is still considered Japan No. 1 and the WR keeper. He wouldn't think of himself that way either. You know he's fighting to win every competition because he believes he should. Even about peaking, didn't he said in some interview that peaking in first half of season is actually fine, the task is to bring the baseline up? To him it's always his to lose imo, and judging from some recent chatter, also to many of his competitors. :confused2:

In the Men's poll 55% if voters bank on Yuzuru.

Nope, not the underdog.

This. Unfortunately, he will likely not have the "privilege" to be the underdog this quad; the reigning OGM, the WR holder and all. He may not go as the sole and clear favorite this time, but by no means he is the underdog. At the very least, unlike pre-Sochi, he does not think of himself as an underdog anymore, so there's that. Going in not as the clear favorite might lessen the burden a bit for him. But due to his status, I doubt it will change much (for himself). Maybe somehow it is like how Mao Asada is? No matter how awful her season is, at least Japanese people will always look forward to her next skate, wishing and hoping that this is it, this is the time when she turns things around. So that pressure will always be there for him.

Well, I actually feel that it's good for him to state his confidence. I'm a really superstitious person, so I sometimes feel the same as you. But, you can think of it this way, by showing that you worked hard and having the abilities to back up your statements, wouldn't the skate gods want to help Yuzu as well? The thing is that yuzu's confidence is not arrogance and I'm sure the skate gods will bless him the way he deserves it. :D

I'm sure this vid has been posted here before, but I just wanted to share it again.

Sometimes my work drags on to the middle of the night. It will be like 3:00 in the morning, and everything seems hopeless. In those times of depression, I watch this video and I feel better. If any of you guys are having a bad day, please watch this video. It's very healing and wholesome.

I was feeling completely bad, with the consistency of a wet noodle and no energy.
This video changed that </3
Sometimes i forget just how much i love him, then i see things like this and i go "Oh my God, i really love him a lot..."

I think Yuzuru's words speak of Yuzuru's high level of self-awareness as well as of his mentality of "tossing his cap over the wall and following it" using the image John F. Kennedy used when he was promoting the US space program to accomplish the then unthinkable idea of having the first human step on the moon. And yes, Yuzuru has been consistent in publicly challenging "walls" (himself). To borrow the words of B Esp's Nicky Slater at the 2013 GPF FS: "..this confidence. 'I can do it.' There's no arrogance there." (https://youtu.be/hx_ui1MJbmA?t=506). And you are right, it is who he is and why we love him.

This is me with Anna pogorilaya. She crosses her legs at lutz so I initially thought she would do a 3Lo but then she pick her foot lol. :p I'm not going to lie, if I see it through fancam from afar, I mistook Yuzu's T and S at times because he barely pick his toepick foot. :dbana: I'm sure there are moments when I watch video snippet of his training and I think to myself, "is that a quad or a triple, that can't be a quad, it is impossible" (like that time he did 2Slo4S at NHK), but it turned out to be a quad. :
I think this season, Yuzuru has changed his quad toe loop technique a bit because of that injury in the left foot. Maybe he changes it a bit to save his foot. :)

rmb the talk about having yuzu dreams yesterday? I think I want it so much that I got it last night  but it was a really weird dream though. basically I was with two people (which I don't know but knew in the dream) and we were in a convenience store eating instant noodles. weirdly, the chilli is white. we then went to this bar-like place and yuzu was on the screen. he came in like a cute angel but once on the rink, his eyes burning like fire. apparently, he was very determined to win after 4cc happened. Suddenly, everyone was cheering. yuzu did a quad axel and it was fully rotated (I didn't see if he fell or not though).
This wasn't in worlds or anywhere tho (I don't really know actually, I just knew yuzu was in a rink). The only thing that makes sense was the mentioning of the 4cc. :palmf:
btw, don't kill me for dreaming about the quad axel now...:slink:

I too had a dream about Yuzu last night...not sure what happened, but I woke up sweating

Pity you cannot remember now. Sometimes it helps when you lie down the next evening, you suddenly remember stuff from last night's dreams. ;-)

Anyway, no more Yuzur dreaming for me, I'm getting ready to leave for Helsinki; already checked in for the flight!
Got back from Germany last night (was at a huge equestrian fair), now I just need to figure out what to throw in the suitcase. Aside from the very obvious stuff like the Pooh bears, Japanese flag, skiing pants, snow boots, winter gloves and lots of heating packs, because I have Raynaud syndrome... which means I should avoid the cold! Sorry Raynaud, supporting Yuzuru is more important.

I have dreamed last night that the SP was today. What a nightmare! I don't know how I will handle it the day of actual SP :drama:

I've decided I may not watch Yuzu's FS. Last time I watched it live (GPF), you know what happened. At 4CC I was asleep and I woke up to a YOLO layout and 206+. Maybe I'm onto something here.

This is totally not a desperate attempt at trying to get to 1k posts before Worlds

I am not superstitious, but I have also started to looking for losing/winning patterns. I have watched all competitions live this year and went to GPF. I watched some of them at home and some at work ;). No pattern found. But I know that if I start a new drawing of Yuzu I have to finish it before the competition. It works! I have one to finish before Worlds...
