OK, this is the night of translations - one more, from the dawn of his senior days. It's quite short, don't worry.
NHK 2010 FS
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xfn0l4_yuzuru-hanyu-2010-gps-fs_sport
… Yuzuru Hanyu from Japan, Junior World Champion last season, Junior Grand Prix Champion. Music by Pablo de Sarasate with an unpronounceable title. Zigeunerweisen.
(after Yuzuru has skated)
Well, clearly Pablo de Sarasate has absolutely drained the Japanese skater, he has! He skated last 40 seconds of his program with his mouth open and his tongue nearly lolling out and having difficulty breathing.
But well done, Yuzuru Hanyu, anyway! He did everything his coach Nanami Abe told him to, he was very musical and good overall! But the most important thing is the thing he started with, great for a junior! There it is, 4T. Great! Then he fought hard for the 3A exit.
Then he started skating in a more relaxed manner, there was a musical rest before another 3A in combination with 3T. He executed nearly all his planned layout, apart from one jump.
On the whole, he was good, he worked hard, but his musicality and everything he does looks trained and introspective, so he has trouble reaching out for the audience (not that he has trouble here, the audience here know him and love him and he gets a lot of support here). I thought that he wasn’t skating that much for the audience. But that’ll change – given his age... how old is he? He was born in 1994, he’ll turn 16 in December, so the most interesting and expressive years are still ahead for him, he might well start skating as well as Takahashi. Takahashi didn’t execute such difficulty at his age.
138 points, of course, he isn’t losing to anyone at this point, and he’s ahead of Mura by 16 points.
Now does anyone want Junior JPF?

I think yuzusorbet will post brief translations on her blog soon.
But generally, there aren't many new comments in SA2, actually :scratch3:
The main arc in reviewing his competitions was, 2 quads in AC and SC, 3 in NHK/GPF, reached his goal of 4 in 4CC with the recovery! But rival Nathan! Ends with death glare + looking toward the peak.
And then the Brian vs. Yuzu arc. Brian initially thought Yuzu was too into jumps, like a "child with a new toy". And they showed his protocol at AC with the 8's.
Yuzu, as we all know, thinks that if the jumps weren't there, the program doesn't stand. That even if the performance were beautiful, if he failed on the jump - "ah, he popped" "ah, that was a mistake" - everyone will think that way, himself included. Same end goal, different approach. Then in NHK, during practice, Yuzu focused on the skating, the spins, everything between the jumps, didn't actually jump. First 300's since last season. Then they showed his protocol, now with 9's.
The clips they used (hi-def koi dance?! four seasons LGC?! etc etc) were amazing though.

Yuzuru's long interview after 4CC. Sorry, I do not have time to translate tonight. Could somebody help?

(TAT and Alexander Grishin commentating)
TAT: This boy is very talented as far as figure skating is concerned.
Gr: Yuzuru Hanyu from Japan.
TAT: This year he won the GPF.
Gr: With a result just under 100 points. In the SP.
TAT: 4T. Easy. But Zhenya (Evgeny Plushenko) had 4-3! His spin was wonderful. His second spin is wonderful too. He sits down very low – it’s always highly appreciated and assessed. 3A from a very difficult entry. No one enters their 3A like that – with a rocker.
Gr: Abbott used to jump it like that.
TAT: 3-3. Lutz-toeloop. His skating is very good, free! It fits the style, it’s musical. You see how much turned out his feet are – no one has to teach him to turn his feet out, he was just born with such feet! A difficult position in the last spin, everything is level 4 and everything will get positive GOE. He had a great skate!
Gr: Well done!
TAT: Well done indeed! Well done!
Gr: And of course he’s so light, so airy, when he enters his spin, it seems to accelerate more and more. He’s like a feather!
TAT: We’ll see. He’s got the season’s best – 99.84
Gr: It isn’t just the season’s best – it’s the world record.
TAT: That’s the WR in the SP.
Gr: He got even more in the Japanese Nationals, but it doesn’t count. Brian Orser.
TAT: There you can see Mao Asada standing. The team has come to support him, just the way our team supported our Zhenya. It was’t so easy to do that, as he cleaned the ice a lot. He fell a lot. You see, that he didn’t quite make the toe-loop… no, he didn’t quite make the lutz, but got himself to jump the toe-loop. There’s the whole team – the two girls, the dance pair… you see how good he is, he's bowing to his coach! He fell from his salchow today.
Gr: Did he?
TAT: He did. Several times. I was at the practices…
Gr: Perhaps that morning shock could come in handy…
TAT: Oh yes, he’s also jet-lagged (or getting used to the climate). The distance between Japan and Sochi must be around seven hours. In winter time…
Gr: In the depth of the winter…
TAT: In the depth of the winter, yes.
Gr: Now we’ll see. But the Japanese team is training in Armenia…
TAT: We’ll see. I think he’ll win
Gr: Yes, with a brilliant result – 97.98. His new result today. He comes first leaving Evgeny Plushenko behind by 6 points.
TAT: But he’s the only one to do that!
Gr: He’s the only one.
TAT: That’s that! And we’re glad of it!
Gr: Everyone’s bowing, bowing and bowing…
TAT: We’re glad!

... and that's what he will prove right in the beginning of the free skate, Katrin, one of the few who jump two quads in the free. He starts right away with a quadruple toeloop.
So, we are in the short program, seven elements are required in the span of two minutes and fifty seconds.
1,71m tall, light as a feather, here he is. Quadruple toeloop. Hoh.
The required flying camel spin. Six rotations are required but you can of course easily do more- as he showed.
And next is the seated spin which is usually launched forward but he launches it backward which just goes to show that he doesn't miss any opportunity to make it more difficult.
He has good transistions- which are summarized in the components.
And the approach to the next jumping pass. That is the triple axel. You can easily distinguish it as it is launched forward. From a turn! Excellent!
Now he is approaching his last jumping pass, a combination: triple lutz, triple toeloop. If he can get that one... [yuzu jumps]... then he can really go for it. That's what you see right now. Like a tornado! The step sequence and at the end, the combination spin.
Simply ins*ne what this young man is charming onto the ice here! [Charming, as in performing magic.] Nineteen years old, Yuzuru Hanyu from Sendai! His best placements in world championships until now- one 3rd place and last year 4th place. But now, with this performance here, he has made a huge step towards protest. Plushenko, as mentioned, is not participating anymore.
And now we are waiting for the scores. There is nothing to complain about, I have seen no flaw. The slow motion will prove that to us.
Well, with this he has mightily lain the ground. The world champion Partick Chan from Canada will skate later. There's quite a few skaters who are yet to skate. Eleven in total.
And you already know this young man here, it is Brian Orser. [LOL] Silver Medalist from Sarajevo Olympics 1984. Only one person exceeded him- back then there were still compulsory figures- Scott Hamilton from the USA. He also trains in Toronto with Brian Orser.
Look at this. Reaches far back, four rotations, straight as a candle in the air, his wrists tight at his chest, barely any air resistance and he lands light as a feather, as if it was a double.
Out of the turn, the triple axel, launched from the toe pick, crossed legs, and here as well, barely any instability while landing- just once there is a short correction(?) but that does not reduce his speed.
Triple lutz, triple toeloop, it's a piece of a cake for him- as if he had an afterburner in him. [LOL] And thus Brian Orser is delighted, who, by the way, back in the day was one of the few that could execute the triple axel without error. That was thirty years ago, however.
Now we are waiting for the score. She is a the team leader. It's a privilege to be seated there on the bank, as it is for all figure skating nations.
101.45... 101.45, that is an excellent score and of course means the lead for Yuzuru Hanyu.

The beginning is cut off so I'm not quite sure what he was talking about in the beginning. Katrin is the announcer's name.

(The skater who’s about to skate) is phenomenal. His star has really, genuinely ascended this season. He’s only 19 years old, he trains in Canada, in Toronto, and at the moment, mind you, he’s the one holding first place in the world ranking, not Patrick Chan. He’s had no major super-success in his career – he won the Bronze medal at the 2012 World Championship, last year, he was only fourth, but this year he pulled himself together and what he showed us at the GPF and the SP – that was incredible! He won the SP during the Team Event here at the Olympics. Let’s watch him – he’s a phenomenal boy with phenomenal skating skills. He’s tiny (what the commentator says, effectively – he’s of tiny height), but it doesn’t interfere with perception of him.
Well done!
An impeccable quad!
Toeloop. He jumps 4T on its own, not in combination and yet gets these incredible scores just short of 100 points.
That’s very difficult – off a counter, a step on one foot, he does a 3A. I’ll tell you what, not every skater from the top 10 will be able to land it successfully even during their practices.
3+3 in the second half of the program! I want to draw your attention to the fact that his axel is also in the second half, so he’s going to get a phenomenal technical score.
Yeah, bravo! And the audience understand very well how good the skate was!
You know, he’s very young, this Japanese boy, and during this Olympic quadrennial we thought, Daisuke Takahashi is undoubtedly (the leader), many Japanese skaters are top-class skaters – Tatsuki Machida, for instance, the one who skated the FS at the Team Event. But this skater stands out among them. I don’t want to compare him to Patrick Chan since they are not alike, but both get superior second mark. I don’t know… it’s more natural to take it with a more detached perception – the way Belousova and Prototopov say it “I don’t pay attention to points, I just can tell whether I like it or not”. From the point of liking it… Hanyu is more exciting. There’s something intangible in his manner of skating
I always think that he feels his music phenomenally well and he lets it sing through his body and his arms, he immerses himself in his music and you can see it.
Well, you can see the result. He’s had a lot of difficult situations in his life already. Brian Orser coaches him. And the most terrifying was… well, I’ll tell you about it a bit later, the tragedy of 2011, now let’s watch the slo-mo. 4T.
Just look at how high he jumps! Do you see the way he opens up – very cleanly. The landing – from his toepick to the edge, the foot made no waves, didn’t vibrate when he landed it. That was a top-quality jump.
There it is – a counter and 3A. It’s very difficult, since you have to turn your shoulders, stop your rotation and then enter the jump. Lutz – very clean, from the outside edge, toe-loop.. there’s a continuous movement, which means the positive GOE for everything. They seem like little details, but they mean many positive GOE added to his technical score, so his score will be sky-high.
Yes, this boy has had to go through a lot because when that famous earthquake of 2011 hit, he was at the skating rink, and during his practice the ice started to shake and split, the walls started to crumble, and he remember that he ran out of the skating rink and took off his skates. He behaved like a professional skater – he was barefoot, there was a snowstorm, he waited barefoot, while in his skating rink the roof came crashing down…
Bravo, bravo!
Look, as far as I can understand it, it’s the first time in the history!
It’s a world record! It’s a record!
101!!! 54 TES, and deservedly so, will you agree, Artur?
Deservedly, because he executes his elements so cleanly and so easily and musically. Phenomenal!
4T – GOE 2.86. nearly perfect.
And that without the second quad. That is, only with one quad…
Verbatim translation of Yuzuru’s interview (from 5’30”) ------------------------------------------
PART 1
__
(What’s your feeling now?)
Well, it’s the same pattern again [probably he is referring to another silver medal], but I feel it has been another luxurious [fruitful] experience. For, first of all, the result was a proper… well, I cannot say it was ‘proper’ per se, but the fact is that I managed to win a medal. In addition, I think I gained something [out of this]; a certain feeling of achievement. Furthermore, the feeling of frustration, which has given me more appetite for training. So, all in all, I appreciate that I have been given great experience, again.
__
(What’s your strategy for the World, given the appearance of another rival?)
Sure, of course, I have been thinking that Nathan is great, and Mr. Uno has also (reportedly) landed a (4)Lo, although I have yet to watch it; I have already seen him landing (4Lo) in practice. So, I feel they are very promising, and at the same time, well… I am thankful to them. [Perhaps, he thanks them as they give Yuzuru further impetus.]
__
(So, from now on, one mistake will be fatal; what will you do?)
Well, ‘my performance’ equals ‘a performance with no mistake’, for me. In addition, it’s not merely ‘no mistake’ but ‘a performance with complete quality with no mistake’ is my performance in my understanding. If I may say, I believe that no one can beat me if I executed such a performance. To ensure that this self-confidence should not turn into over-confidence, I think I will have to engage with further training with more precision.
__
(Have you prepared for the changes of elements during performance like this time?)
No, I hadn’t prepared for it, no, it was the first time. It was improvisation. ------------------
I'd say we could very well add English language video links into our google doc table, couldn't we? Just to serve as a general reference point - along with our page one?
And lastly, Sporthit's video of the Olympic SP. No readily available video in YT or DM, I'm afraid - but I could try and see what could be done about it later.

So, Yuzuru Hanyu – he looked brilliant in the Team Event. Everyone said about how light and weightless he looked, how concentrated he was, how technical and flexible he was. Lots of descriptions, and one of them – the last one – how young he was. Boys are different from girls – look at Lipnitskaya, 15! To do a quad at 14, 15 or 16 is a separate experiment and they haven’t reached it yet, but they will! I mean at real competitions!
The music is Gary Moore’s famous song and he’s immersed in his movements. He’s so free.
(He keeps silent during the program)
It’s just incredible, the way it looks here at the stadium, live… so free and fluent that Gary Moore’s improvisations on his electric guitar fall short of expressing the freedom of this guy’s movements. One gets an impression as if he’s just walking freely, as if he’s at a show, as if he’s Kurt Browning’s son (???), as if it’s nothing much to him, as if he didn’t start working yet! All this conceals hard work and incredible talent – only the combination of these two things will produce an impression we’re getting from Yuzuru Hanyu’s skate. And I can only wonder how much air flight his jumps have – look at his quad, off he jumps – and his skate was straight backwards on his left foot, and his landing is so exact. When he was executing his jump, there was an impression he could have added a bit to the jump. 3A – the absolute. Of course, that freedom has an element of youthful skating, he’s got a teenager face and we’re not used to such boys becoming Olympic Champions. It’s more usual with girls, but in men’s competitions it just doesn’t happen. We’re used to seeing a grown-up man’s build and character in skating, but it makes it more interesting to see that youthful viewpoint of the world. He’s gone beyond 100! That’s a record! 101,45! Oooh! The free program will be more interesting now as the experience of some athletes will try to overcome this youthful exuberance.
Hmmm, this drama does get sometimes excessive.![]()
OK, a somewhat subdued commentary now - I think I'll be done for today. Well, maybe. This is very short.

(Alexander Grishin commentating)
Still the one and only, great and unique, a samurai with a baby face. Two years in a row he skated before Fernandez and lost the title to Javier. But the fact he’s unique has been proven by him more than once this season. Requiem… no, not to Dreams, but of Heaven and Earth
(after the skate)
Hanyu raises the audience up on their feet even at gala shows. Well, he deserved it. Just look, how much sweat he sheds – quite literally, when he’s all pouring sweat after each program, both SP and FS. Today he looks a bit less exhausted (literally, ‘looks more like a human) after his gala exhibition program. Well, that’s the way major titles are won in the sport.

Would really appreciate it.
