Yuzu skated amazingly in the SP! I hate that 4S, but he is just phenomenal to watch!
Also can't understand how judges didn0t give his 3A +3 GOEs all across the board

A few words from a commentator a while ago but it reflects our thoughts on Yuzuru Hanyu and this sport. Please retweet with us to support him!

“We have taken for granted that Yuzuru Hanyu should be the first as we have been so used to his unbeatable achievements. But nothing exists without a reason, everything we expected from Yuzuru Hanyu comes at a price with his diligent training and mental strength. We can sit there and enjoy his performance but it’s always a tough battle for him. Yuzuru Hanyu’s presence is not there for another world record or champion. He himself is the figure skating. The fact that he transforms himself into this sport compels admiration. If there is another miracle in this world, I wish it is named after Yuzuru Hanyu."

He still has a good chance of getting on the podium if he doesn't make major mistakes in the free but not so great a chance of winning unless Javi, Shoma and I guess Patrick make a mistake or two. Nathan could also crawl back but tbh if Nathan does try a 6 quad layout I don't think he can do it clean so, imo, he's not really in contention for gold but could reach podium, if Shoma makes costly mistakes.
I still hope for Shoma, Javi and Yuzu on the podium and I think that has a good chance of happening but what order? Anything could happen.
Of course, with this being Yuzu there's always the chance he performs phenomenally and gets enough points to secure gold even if Shoma and Javi don't make mistakes, and I would love to see that kind of performance, but realistically... Yuzu is looking at silver or bronze unless Javi bombs and Shoma has a fall, with Yuzu skating clean or pulling some kind of 4CC magic. I just want him to be even a little happy in the kiss and cry, not super disappointed and frustrated.

His LGC was not awful, he didn't bomb it, but getting the combo invalidated was costly enough with the competition being as fierce as it is. It's amazing how much the men's events have grown over the past few years. Everyone was skating incredibly yesterday, every mistake counted. His quad loop was amazing, his 3A was perfection, the step sequence was fun and lively and wonderfully performed. I hope he can see these little victories in the program and find some satisfaction even if the combo went a bit sideways. As far as crappy landings go he managed to control it and make it look kinda cool so it wasn't massively disruptive to the overall performance (shame its so freaking hard to find a hq video of it to watch back). I think maybe his energy was better at GPF but he always connects with the program and delivers the right energy when he performs. There are things to be proud of here.

I kinda wish he would swap out the 4s3t for anything else but i understand he's limited in what changes he can make to his layout right now and changes could be riskier than just trying again with the freaking combo. It's not like he can't jump it, it's just not been cooperative in competitions for a while.

I appreciate the people who talked to him backstage. The guy for the ISU interview was great and seemed to tease Yuzu out of a sulk, and PJ seems to have a talent for staring out her little videos with a nice smile (complete with nose winkle which just kills me with cuteness). His English has gotten really good! He can communicate his thoughts a lot clearer. Maybe when he said friends at rinkside he was talking about his team, and even though they are competing, other skaters he is familiar with? Or people came with him to cheer him on? Whatever he means I'm glad he has friends with him and knows he is well supported rinkside, in the crowd and on the internet.

I hope whatever he is feeling right now he can channel into his performance tomorrow. He's a fighter, he will come out and fight and it will be incredible to watch. Whatever his standing will be, I will be proud and hopeful for next season.

I never said that there's never wrong judging or that all rules are applied evenly everywhere. If you want to debate if the call was correct, feel free to do it. I was just showing you where to find the rules. People can disagree with the scoring and judging but I just don't understand why so many people are pushing the narrative that JSF and the judges are actively screwing Yuzuru over based on the scoring of this particular performance and that he is now a huge victim of the system whereas everyone else are showered with points. You'd think that he had scored in the 80's or something that would actually warrant such a reaction.

You didn't just 'point out where the rule is', you basically said "Yuzu got that score because of his performance, not because the judges were harsh with him", and that is, Well, 'debateable'.
Ehh, maybe people aren't just basing their opinion on this one performance? This is IMO another example of things that have been discussed for ages. Judges never gave him the Freebies Chan got, or that now Fernandez, Uno or Chen are getting.
And still lol about that Fed backing stuff. Yes, Federations have their favorites and back them up and favor them. The many times the JSF has screwed over Nobu and Taka in favor of Dai are still making my head hurt (and Dai is my fave out of that group). It's a reality so of course people talk about how much potential this behind the scenes stuff has in causing scores that were wrong. And if you don't see the favoritism Shoma is getting, I don't know what to say (the narrative of him being "Dais heir"; the ignoring of his obvious technical flaws like his flutz (that was still called at last years GPF fe);, BS like his Jumps being photoshopped in News papers to look bigger; and my fave: nationals this year. Yuzu last year came in as the OGM who broke every record ever twice, and still got his jumps called UR when they were (rightfully). Shoma this year was not even a world medalist and only the favorite in the first place because Yuzu WD, and he got away with more non-calls than I can count on one hand (flutz, DG on one 3A, UR on the other, at least UR on 2 of his Quads,...). Heck, he got more Freebies then Satoko in the Ladies event, when she was the 2 time Champion and reigning GPF silver medalist. That is kind of insane right there.) You are free to think whatever you want, but I'm still very opposed to people talking about judging being harsh/Fed favoritism just making up 'excuses'.

It is beautiful, thank you for sharing it. I retweeted it.

I was there in the arena during the men 's short programs. His short program is very good, except for the combination 4S+3t which became 2t with a little delay near the board. The judges are very harsh on him, very friendly with Chan, Shoma especially their favorite Fernandez. In the arena, we did not understand why his score had a deduction of 1 point.
I understand afterward that this is -1 point deduction for 3 seconds late at the beginning of the program.
Anyway, the judges can do what they want. I don't care anymore.
I regret that I did not stay in the arena to see the pairs free program.
I went back to my hotel to eat and rest, then I did not want to go back to skating.

Hi everyone, sorry to be late. My WiFi at the hotel room is so late, and my pc doesn't work comfortably. I wanted to share my report here, but it may be difficult since I can't write text with pc and can't share my photos. Im so sorry.

My heart broke last night. At practice morning, I was so excited to see yuzu for the first time since nhk cup 2015. He got mannly and handsome, and got much muscles. He just was photogenic from every single a moment and angle! I just kept taking photos of hom. But it's my first experience and it's difficult to catch him. So you can't expect my photos, haha... he was in good shape.

And what can I say... at 6min warm up, he was so nice. The arena was supportive to yuzu. But the voice kept loudly and he got 1 point reduction... so sorry for him. he really was a rock star. He got much bigger scale than before. He rocked the arena. I don't want to think about 4s. Skating god is very cruel. Ive heard his back is much worse, so he couldn't do that pose curving his back enough. All I can do is wishing his health till retirement.

But I want to believe every mountain he must crimb is leading to the gold of Pyongyang. That's all...

I really wish I can do more cheerful report after fp.

I really believe he can comeback to win with a great LP. He'll need at least 200+, for a 300+ total. Besides Yuzu, only Javi and Nathan have ever gone over 300+. If either of them (or maybe even Pchan/Uno) does it to win then you just have to say "Too good" and give props for a great performance at this WC.

Anyway, loved Yuzu's SP despite the error. Perfect 4Lo:love: and 3A:love:, absolutely werking the crowd throughout the performance. And we got an emergency 2T with hands aloft

I do wonder though, is he going to keep the CoD for Olympic season? Or will the 4Lz and/or 4Lo3T be introduced?

May I know where you heard it?

I know he didn't do biellman spin in 4CC, but he did it again at practice
His donut spin was good too. It may be not as low as when he's still 19 but I don't think there's a big problem with his back :scratch2:

whole post

:agree: I think the Fed is less willing to support him because he doesn't come from one of the skating's household of Japan (though Sendai's rink produced their only 2 OGM). And this is not only bad but also a bit stupid for the JSF because Yuzu is really the global face of the sport (a tour on Youtube shows that many fan-made videos of him with photos and songs have more views than many competitive programs of other skaters). And the only one who could potentially reach that level of likeness in Japan is, IMO, Marin Honda, if she survives the hype and gets the desired results.

:ghug: you have said everything I want to say.... but let's take it as this: Yuzuru is strong, he does not need back up from the fed to win competition.

Yuzuru does not cheats his take off or the landing, so if one day specialists become strict at jump calling, he does not need to worry about that issue at all. ;) His fate is in his hands. He will survive strict specialists (like me ).

You know all the above named skaters, if they're in my hands, they're done. Flutz, UR will be their friends . Only Yuzuru will survive!

And seriously if their fans feel offended that I call their favourites' jumps are cheating, I have all the slow motion gifs as evidence here.

Screw the people who think his time is over, he will throw his new WR to their faces.

He leaned back as usual when doing knee slide, I didn't notice anything unusual. But I remember that his scary 4lo fall was reported in Russian media immediately. I just hope his back is ok now.

Russian media is watching Yuzuru Hanyu like a whole flock of vultures. They made it as if he was lying down there for minutes. Disgusting, really.

Can anyone give me the streaming link for practices?

edit: Oh, I guess there is none.

lazy bum taking a nap in the middle of competition :p tsk tsk tsk

Your video was used later to refute the allegations of his laziness! :) So thanks a bunch for that - you've done a huge service of providing evidence for generations to come!
