As a fan only since GPF last year, I've been regretting not having been a fan earlier and when he started breaking world records... Now I feel a bit better lol. The boy's surreal. I hoped he'd blow our minds, but I was too afraid to expect it. And yet he did, majorly... :hap57:

I was a bit torn about Javi, because I really like him - I have a thing for underdogs and Javi generally seems to be a bit of an underdog - and I wanted him to do well, but not well enough to beat Yuzu... In the end, I'm sad he finished off the podium... Seeing Yuzu being so sweet makes me feel better again, though.

Also, as a newbie when it comes to figure skating, someone mentioned there being clear indications of how to give GOE points. Is there like a checklist or so? I'm curious what the judges could possibly claim wasn't perfect for Yuzu to get those points... especially his spins, this time, they really didn't like them much and I can't imagine what more he could do on those, either... I already have my own conspiracy theory of why judges might be extra harsh on Yuzu, but I feel I should learn more about the technicalities before commenting further ^^;

Oh and it's confirmed he'll be at WTT, too? *fingers crossed for world record LGC*

A few words about BBC.

So Robin Cousins and the she who shall not be named.

After the skate was over - Shivers. That was sublime. It's going to get a huge, huge score. Talked about the 1 point deduction in the SP due to the time (I get the feeling he thinks that's bs, they mentioned it was the same as for a fall).
He said it was sensational. He said then, no one will, even Javi, will not have the delicacy of his jumping. That his technique is delicate, even if he's doing quads, they are light and elegant. Then he talked about no tension in his upper body when he jumps, or when he skates anyway. What command!

Late to the party but congratulations Yuzu on your 2nd World Title!!! I'm so happy you had your ideal skate!!! So happy you showed the world once again what is possible!!!

He did everything so beautifully I cried!! Should have been +3 GOE across the board! Again others were gifted and Yuzu judged harshly but true brilliance cannot be held down and that is what he showed today.

Congratulations again Yuzu!!! Enjoy your new shiny!!!

Japan's Hanyu wins world figure skating title for second time

Hanyu had been trailing in fifth after the short programme, but pulled out a best-ever score in the free skate to reclaim the title he won in 2014.

Bears and gifts rained down on the ice after his performance at a capacity-packed Hartwall Arena in Helsinki and he wiped tears from his eyes as he watched his scores appear.

"After the short programme I was so disappointed and down, but the fans and team helped lift me," said Hanyu, who scored 321.59 points.

"I could hear the crowd roaring me on, not just the many Japanese in the crowd but everybody supporting me was very impressive," said Hanyu.

"I demonstrated everything I was capable of, my whole package. I wanted to do five quads but did not have enough energy."

"I have very warm memories about Finland as I won my first international competition here when I was a kid," recalled Hanyu after improving on his own world-record score in the free skate at the 2015 Grand Prix final by 3.72 points.

Q: It’s your first clean LP this season. What were your thoughts at the end of the competition?

YH: I thought I enjoyed the free at World Championship. I thought about doing a 5th quad if I felt good after 3A-2T, but I was too tired.

Q: Amidst the ups and downs of conditioning, how were you showing steady performance? (sorry #badtrans..)

YH: I thought it when I gave clean performances at NHK and GPF last season, but it’s hard to be clean. Mentally, and peaking of physical strength/stamina that must be matched to each competition. I feel that adjustment is difficult. In my current layout, it’s not that I can feel technically confident in the loop yet. Another step/level is difficult.

Q: It was a performance that flowed from beginning to the very end. What’s your consciousness towards the jumps?

YH About the 4S and 4T, I was very focused. As I was doing it, I felt like wind, as if I had jumped into a river… as if I am enveloped by nature. I was in a good, focused state.

Q: You controlled the amount of practice in this morning’s practice

YH I had regrets from SP, so I wanted to practice, but there wasn’t much time in between OP and the real thing, so Brian held me down. Although my legs felt tired at the 6-min warmup, I did a little final adjustment and managed to maintain my stamina.

Well some of those judges must regret themselves for not giving +3 he deserves. Even they lowballed his gorgeous spins. Well it's their lost. I love it right before the music ended, Yuzu gave one final pose - the no.1 finger - facing the judges :thumbsup:

It's tomorrow at noon at the arena. But you can only get in if you have a ticket for the gala. The stage is in the hallway and it's tiny. I'm not gonna be hear at butt Io'clock in the morning, so I won't be able to see anything there. Expect lots of people. But they said they would stream it to the screen in the arena, so I'll probably just watch from there.
