A Japanese program about the bond between Shoma and Yuzu, with translations <3 : https://tadakixd.tumblr.com/post/159153599625/the-bond-between-yuzuru-and-shoma
(beware, extreme cuteness inside !)

I loved this short piece! Thanks for the link. Yuzuru/Shoma are quickly becoming my 2nd favourite FS friendly interaction, however nothing beats awkward or better, the recent casual ones (!!) Chanyu moments.

It's interesting to see their relationship evolve because in 2014 and 2015 Shoma could seem completely uninterested/scared with Yuzuru's annoying uncle moments, and they seemed relatively not very close. Already at this last summer ice shows I saw that Shoma was opening up much more and they seem more comfortable next to each other. They usually are seen chatting at gala practices, because they both are in Team Japan of course, but I don't sense that much awkwardness as before. There was a similar evolution with Satoko, that moment when Satoko stood up to congratulate Yuzuru I believe it was at NHK, was one of the, if not the cutest interaction of this season. I find this very interesting since at the beginning when Yuzuru became senior he, too, sometimes could seem uncomfortable around Team Japan.

And the section with the presenters at the end made me realize that Patrick's 5th place scores at this Worlds which was 295,16 is only 0,01 short of Yuzuru's silver at Worlds 2016 (295,17). Which again speaks volume for the level of skating at this competition.

Oh, and both of them would've won Sochi by a whopping 15 points!

Oh god we're already talking assignments?
Please pray to the skating gods that he goes to SC. If i go and he wins would you guys help me raise funds to go to PC
I really really want to see him in Canada:slink: Please Yuzu, please!:sad4:

Guys I think this is the most cheery and positive we've been since I joined this FF  I'm still on cloud nine :gclap:

...oh yes, please!:) , or just leave the link for the MatchArena FS video - I did not know it had the warmup in it. And I found his concentrating and moving while the other skaters were introduced really focused and intense as well. I would love to see it again.

FS MatchArena
it's ~ 7GB

I'm sorry shiro, couldn't you make it to SC maybe? :(

My schedule probably won't allow it, since it gets way too busy near the end of the year.... SA is a holiday week so I know for sure I can make it. :shame:

But since there's a high possibility of him staying, I guess I won't be too heartbroken even if he doesn't come to SA or Milan..

I'm skeptical about Milan too, but all the people yesterday when we went for celebration lunch were very sure he'd go  I'll be in Milan then too :)

I feel a little bad because I had to spend time catching up on about 100 pages before posting, but I'm back home! I'm in at work too. Apparently I'm in a great mood according to my boss who said he's never seen me so relaxed and happy returning from vacation before. Yeah, I got a little extra pep in my step, ngl, despite all the sleep deprivation. I skipped the gala and small medals but it all looked fun (I had to get back to the land of the living though)! As for some general reflective thoughts.

I was kind of thinking that I know my feelings earlier weren't popular that it felt like it'd be an all or nothing competition for Yuzu for reasons I couldn't really say (it's just a feeling I got)...but in the end I was kind of right. After the short, it was "nothing" since he didn't even place for the small medals. And then after the long it was all!! So my instincts were actually pretty good! I just interpreted them wrong ;).

After the short I wasn’t sure what to think going into the free. I was feeling a bit depressed about his chances and knew he’d have to do what he's never done before to even have a shot at winning. I clutched my Pooh bear extra tight at night like I child (we cope how we can). On Friday I was just trying to keep myself distracted and appreciate that I was there and I was meeting so many great people (like some of you guys who were there), including the skaters and their team. I watched the ladies free at the hotel with Jason Brown's parents and some coaches and that was really cool. It's so much better watching skating with people that really know the sport. I saw the final flight of girls rushing out to the shuttle bus (Med in her fur coat) and that was fun (poor Pogo at the time looked bright eyed and determined). But then when that was over I started feeling really anxious again and it was just a matter of me feeling like maybe I'd never be lucky enough to witness my all time favorite skater be amazing in person (yes, after these championships, I can decisively say he is now my all time favorite). And then Saturday happened and I had my Pooh Bear clutched early on in the competition. My friends said they saw me holding him early. My nerves were getting to be too much so I went to get that glass of wine before Misha Ge skated. It helped some but by the time Yuzu's group was to begin I was getting nervous again. So I looked at the warm up and saw him go down on the 3A and I was feeling something awful. And then it was game time.

I just remembered loving seeing him do the 4 Loop in front of me. And then the sal was good, the flip was good. And then he was coming back to my side where I saw him mess up the combo in the short. And then right before my very eyes he hit his best 4sal/3toe in front of me and I absolutely screamed. It was f*cking glorious (excuse my french). I just couldn’t contain myself and wanted so badly for him to hold on. The jumps were just looking exceptionally beautiful this day and I wanted him to keep it up and when he was done, the pure hysteria was something else. It was an absolute privilege to see an immaculate skate like that. I was trying to be reasonable and only wanted to see a clean short from him. He gave me a really good short (just costly with a small mistake). But after the free I knew at the very least he'd make the podium that way, but I was really hoping that somehow he could pull out a win. And then the biggest threats were making just enough mistakes. When the results were in I couldn't contain myself. It was a high I will never forget in my lifetime. And celebrating with all the fans was so amazing. I stayed in the arena while dance was happening and I had the pooh ears and the bear and fellow fans going by...we'd smirk to each other in delight. I found the Pooh Ears couple and we hugged! The Japanese fans were delighted and I chatted with a lot of them, making some new friends and they gave me so many gifts.

Later on I ended up meeting Tracy Wilson (and saw Brian but he was sitting and talking with a group) and I told her how happy I was and congratulated her on a job well done. I asked her how it was sitting in the K&C instead of doing commentary and she said it was very different. I told her we absolutely loved seeing her there (which is as much of a hint I could give that maybe she should do it more often :luv17:). She was VERY happy. I also met some other skaters who were really nice. I actually met Kevin Reynolds and chatted with him in Japanese a bit, and then nearby Japanese fans were impressed haha. *sigh* What a grand day that was.

I think I have some Sasha Cohen PTSD that will probably remain forever. I promised myself I'd never get invested in a skater again like I was for her, but Yuzu, I can't quit you.

Reading Narcissa's account of things reminded me of something; are there any FS warmup fancams that I may have missed?

I have one I have yet to upload (uploaded the SP one but didn't post it here yet). Will probably be a repost with my tumblr recap but as for the SP at least:

Also just saw that my first practice video upload just topped 100,000 views :eeking:

Ok, back at the end tail of the 2000s a youngster called Artur Gachinsky trained by Mishin was announced to be Plushenko-2 and pushed by the federation. But he lost the Junior Worlds 2010. Next year, both Artur and Yuzu became seniors skaters, and while Yuzuru's season was over with 4CC 2011, Gachinsky got to go to the Worlds 2011 in Moscow and with the help of Oda zayaking and Takahashi breaking his blade and domestic judging he got to be a Bronze medalist and so had lots of hopes pinned onto him.
Next year, at two GPF events Yuzu and Artur are in the same competitions - and Artur loses to Yuzu again. It wasn't so bad at CoC 2011, but in Moscow the gap was rather too big - Yuzu won, and Gachinsky came fifth.
Gachinsky won silver at Europeans 2012, beaten by Plushenko... but when they competed with Yuzu again at Worlds 2012, he messed up very badly and remained 17th, I think.
Whenever these two met, Artur just collapsed. After that he just went downhill, got injured and retired in December 2015. Before that at an interview he said that Yuzuru was a great athlete, but not a great artist. And that Yuzuru beats his competitors ruthlessly - he just tears them apart. But he had poor posture, no extension blablabla.

Yeah, I think Mishin and Gachinsky never got over losing to Yuzu - and it's a sort of obsession to them. Though even Mishin mentions in the same interview that Yuzuru's always courteous to him - saying that male skaters are really friendly to each other...

Yeah, Mishin, Yags and Plush were not men, then - they were girls...

I just opened Gachinsky's program at JW and I want the first 4 seconds in gif form.

(...) I clutched my Pooh bear extra tight at night like I child (we cope how we can). (...)

Lovely report :D I would have loved to be there too, but really, i feel so happy for all of you who were there supporting him and got the opportunity to see such beauty of a skate :D My heart feels full of joy reading the reports from you guys!
The part i left of the quote... That's how i've been coping since Skate Canada. I bought my Pooh the week before iirc, i knew i wouldn't make it through the season without a Pooh to hug :) That's why i also keep a pocket sized Pooh in my desk at work!

I thought I wouldn't have to go there (because I am an adult and all) but I think the first thing I will do when I get back home is buy a Pooh in time for WTT.

Oh dear old Mishin, you can't miss a chance to make a jab at Yuzu...
http://www.kommersant.ru/doc/3259927

Yuzu's not balletic, nor can he ever hit a beat in his programmes - he isn't musical. Posture, arms - not balletic. Yuzu's like a panther, but gets too emotional. Mishin can't remember a single competition where Yuzuru didn't fail something (please refer Mishin to NHK+GPF 2015).
Javi is balletic, on the other hand.
And Shoma has four quads already.

Oh Mishin, Mishin...stop being a dinosaur. The world has moved on. Even Prix de Lausanne added a contemporary element to their selection process way back in the 1980s. Ballet is not the only form of artistic movement nor should programs always need to be performed in such a style. This implies a small mindedness in perspective. Yuzu is not completely balletic, it's true. He is better than that. He is not a panther but a leopard, changing his spots to suit his music and his programs. He is balletic when he needs to be, when he wants to be and he always is when he lands his jumps. Mishin, have you seen the way Nureyev lands when he jumps double tours landing in arabesque? See his plie and alignment? Yuzu always lands with such plie and alignment (also helps to prevent injury).

Javi is balletic? Now, I know Mishin, that you do not know much about ballet. His hands...they always look like they are holding castanets whether he is skating Malaguena or not. Proper port de bras requires articulation in the fingers. Jazzy yes, balletic no.
