Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I don't wanna be doom-and-gloomy but it's pretty clear to me that the European judges will favor Shoma next season (although the jury is still out on Russia). His style suits them more I think.

And I want a movie-score for his FS! His skating is big enough to handle it
I love Piano music, so I want piano music for the SP

Depends on his programs too, If he chooses something easily understandable to judges like POTO (which had much lesser choreo and tr) or Seimei he might have their love back. Tangos warhorses and classics are easier to understand. Even if you look through LGC record throughout season youll see that it got much better attitude than H&L. He got pretty great PCS even at SCAC and SC for a pretty flawed skate . Even RJ2 somehow got more love from judges than H&L (funny tho) So we shall see. I think classic is always a safer bet . Look at Chen btw,he has well known warhorses, even he literally does nothing there despite jumps and arm choreo it still works. So Yuzu, it is time to pick smth safer. Same attitude from judges goes to Chiddy's LP as well . Even if the choreo is great and complex he was still lowballed compared to Javier LP and Shoma LP because you know, Eric is no Piazzolla... that is the clear indication to me.

I think "balletic" is just a word people like to throw out without actually knowing what it means. If they like someone's posture, the way he has control over his body and his movements, then that's balletic, because ballet dancers are seen as elegant, precise and in control. If they don't like all that about a skater = not balletic. It's just a word that sounds cool and some people think it makes them look like they know what they're talking about.

Same, same! Yuzu's and Chiddy's LPs are miles better for me than any other men. I thought I could change my mind about Shoma after seeing that program in Helsinki but alas, it was even more disappointing for me live. Honorable mention to Jason's LP really pleasant to see.

The thing is, to European ears, that woman wailing is perfectly acceptable, both artistically and culturally. We all know euro-trash. Weird and oddly-shaped music tends to not be as negatively seen here as in other continents. There is that mentality that edgy = great.

I have read a recent interview, I don't know where. He is well aware that H&L got much lesser appreciation from judges and audience than seimei, also elements weren't working out well. He was even thinking to change it, but they were limited in time. (If anyone has the link of this quote please share it, thank you ).

It was this interview. H&L was an experimentation for him. He wanted to try something new for him. It was actually an ultimately successful experiment, if you consider Worlds. One might think PCS wise it was worse than Seimei, but Seimei also got lower PCS when he did mistakes, though probably not as low as the high 80s as he got in ACI and SC with H&L. Then again, those particular times he did a fair share of costly blunders. Comparatively, Seimei had 2 occasions where it was skated clean and his PCS shot up sky high comparatively, but it's really weird to think it was that significantly less liked in terms of scores. He did get a 97 at Worlds and a 94 at 4CC.

I don't think he will do warhorse. We know through David Wilson that it's Yuzuru who insisted on doing R&J and POTO, but that he thought that Yuzuru should have chosen something more personal to make a statement. And I'm pretty sure Brian, Jeff and Shae-lynn think the same. And these last two years, he's chosen very original programs, and I think everybody would agree that it was a good thing (POTO is one of my favourite programs but I hate the music, sadly)
I'd love something jazzy or something like modern music with japanese instrument. Somethink cool, modern and unique, like Seimei was. Just like him

Agreed. That kind of easy listening/jazz pop doesn't suit Yuzu's style at all, it would be a better choice for Javier imo.

I could imagine something really experimental and avantgarde for him but not in the Olympic season

I have no idea what kind of music he will choose for SP next season, but I'd be happy too if he kept LGC - judges and the audience love it, the choreo is brilliant and he can perform it perfectly, which are key factors of success.

At first I was like huh? This translation is totally different from what I translated earlier, but then I watched the video and apparently eurosport found Yuzuru's LP so good, that they have two different commentaries: one of the live skate (the one I originally translated) and one of the replay (this one now)

They always do that, though; commentaries for the replay programs are different. That's why I'm sort of kind of a tiny bit glad there was no live SP, because that would have added another transcription to the list, lol.
In fact, there is the men's free (live), and then the men's free (replay)... And then sometimes I believe they even have a different one for the two-hour complete review program that airs during the week. Ugh.

Indeed, SEIMEI had a great impact and it was amazing (tends to be a warhorse itself because of Yuzu ) but I just hope he will choose something with more powerfull than H&L (although I, for once, liked it a lot, it's so Yuzu like). I think Yuzu would do a great tango if he would choose to. His gaze is made for a tango!!! He would do a great everything IMO!!!
I love Shoma's tango too!!!

No, please, no tango !
First, I'm not sure at all he would make a great tango... Tango needs upper body choregraphy and "jolting" mouvements (sorry, not sure it's the right word), while Yuzuru's strength is in the unique flow of his performances and his footwork, which is quite the opposite of a tango in my mind.
And too many skaters have already made a great tango. There's nothing unique in doing a tango.

But I agree that something more powerful than H&L would be more catchy for olympic season. Something easier to like and to understand, with a clear dramatic progression and a climax.

While yuzuru's intense switched-on eyes would indeed be very appropriate for a tango, no more tangos Team Japan please! I mean Japanese nationals was... and did everyone forget Keiji did one too?

I confess I had a dream that yuzuru did Turandot for olympics for symbolism reasons (it was not a good dream )
