Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

But would 230 have been enough to catch Javi? I mean, they gave Javi a +3 for his first jump and with nearly the same content as Seimei I have a feeling they'd have given him Yuzu's free skating record (Though Yuzu would have won it right back if he skated how he did, but Javi probably would have had the overall record).
Yes judges were willing to give Javi and Shoma all the +3 they could. But they could not. This is practically 6.0 judging. That's why Yuzuru's win this time is more impressive.

I'm sorry if it already has been posted. But is there a Brian cam for World's 2017, SP or FS or both?

Regarding 4S3T:
"With Yuzu, there's no going back, there's no safety net."
Brian also asked Yuzu to take out the 4lo at first, but Yuzu felt that he had to make the quad his normal jump. And Brain fully supported his decision.

Brian also said he got angry when he read negative posts on Yuzu and/or Javi.

I remembered this after Yuzu landed on his knee twice at SC. But now Yuzu won Worlds by the skin of the 4Lo teeth. Without the 4Lo, Yuzu would have lost to Shoma since the 4Lo replaces 3Lo (12.0-5.1) which is a difference of BV 6.9.

BV at Worlds 2017 103.43
BV at GPF 15/16 95.19

Shoma lost to Yuzu by 2.28 points (3.28 if you don't factor the silly -1 deduction in SP).

Yuzu had a premonition from the beginning of the season that the 4Lo is not just an extra but a mandatory requirement to win.

Things like scoring and the scoring of other skaters especially can be discussed in the competition threads and threads on the Edge. ;)

They gave Javi's LP at Boston higher score than Yuzuru at NHK 2015 :rolleye: judges don't care. This is the same as 6.0 lol

Yeah, I am aware. But I would like to think they are still somewhat sober enough to know that Seimei was better skated (spins, steps, jumps and program component-wise). He got higher score than NHK yes but his TES was lower than both NHK+GPF. I meant they are still somewhat sober enough not to give him Chopin's record for SP so I have my hopes :p

Yuzuru's Seimei record with that kind of spin from Javi? :noshake:

Based on the GOE of the two it was just a .2 difference which could be made up in PCS somewhere and GOE on other jumps. And then I wouldn't count it out since Javi did put in 2 4 sals to Yuzu's 2 4 toes.

If not for SP mistake there would be more difference with Shoma overall score. And judges were more willing to give points to Shoma, since he wasn't the first to skate.

You can't deny that Javi did a great program, but IMO his score shouldn't have been higher than Yuzu's score.
The point is the programs don't matter. Bad programs, good programs, the judges love it or not don't matter.

Many people (even Yuna's fans) now say they don't like Yuna's LP at Vancouver as much as other programs of her like Homage to Korea or Les Mis etc, does it matter?

I think people hung up on those numbers too much. Those numbers do not matter. They are purely for PR. Judges want new WR to promote their favourites for Olympic seasons. The higher the scores are, the more impressive they sound to the casual audience.

Do you think the quality or the thing they call "artistry" should be equal to the scores? No... lol absolutely no. Numbers can not tell you how great a choreography is.

Yeah but a Sal's difference is only 0.3 in the score sheets, plus Yuzu did all his combinations in the 2nd half which would give him more points, whereas Javi did 2 of his in the first half. Doesn't exactly make sense, plus the fact that he did trip near the end (after his Triple Flip-Half Loop-Triple Salchow combination). I still don't get how he got 0.34 points more than Hanyu. Even with the 2 +3 in his quads.

The magic number is 330, which Yuzu could have achieved with his previous year's layout, or something close to it. Maybe if he had a 4toe/3toe instead of a 4Sal/3toe he would have skated cleaner in the short, got around what Javi got, and then did the same in the free to near the 330.

The SP was not even bad. He had a foot down and doubled the toe. A less stricter panel might even have not counted it as +COMBO* and just counted it as 4S2T. Some made it seem like he fell on his butt on the SP or something :p He should not be so hard on himself (or kuyashii about it) in the short, I think it was pretty great

He got 330 at GPF was because he got 324 at NHK. He had the momentum from that event. Judges are human, and they're affected by that momentum too. Simple as that. Had Yuzuru did not score 324 at NHK, but just 310 or so, he would just score 320 at GPF 2015.

That's why I said, don't pay much attention to the numbers. They're all the results of various factors. And you can not repeat various factors in the same way.

I think that Brian's initial plan was to add the 4Lo later this season, when the success rate in training would have been higher, because at the beginning of the season he felt that Yuzu'performances suffered from the 4Lo and that Yuzu spent too much time working on the 4Lo. But Yuzu insisted on adding it right from the beginning to gather more experience about it in competition and "do the mistakes now", and Brian understood. (ie Yuzu took the grand prix series as a training and knew perfectly well that his performance would suffer from it, and accepted it, because he knew that in the long term it was the best approach - which was pretty brave and clever).
So in any case Yuzu would have had the 4Lo at worlds, I think. Especially with Shoma and Nathan adding new quads in their programs every month or almost ;)

But yes Yuzu was totally right to insist, because he indeed gathered a lot of experience with the 4Lo and it is now a very reliable jump for him (and how beautiful ! :luv17:)
