Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I don't think he will change his layout for the Olympic season, at maximum change the place of a triple of anything similar. As far as i'm concerned he didn't change it much for Sochi compared to 2012-2013. I need to check it but please spare me from watching NDP, thanks. The biggest reason for him to include 4Lo this season, as someone said, was to gain mileage with it and have a layout for the Olympics which he's confident with.

The change he made was his 3 jump combo, he changed it from a Triple Lutz-Double Toe-Double Toe to a Triple Lutz-Half Loop-Triple Salchow.

LMFAO Somehow people are so sensitive to pre rotation, or any issue related to rotation though, I'm having Mao UR flashbacks  The backlash feels like it's one of IJS 7 sins

He changed it a bit. 3lz2t2t to 3lzlo3S. But in terms of quads, he did not change it simply because he has yet to master the 4S?
This time it is a bit different because he has mastered the 4-quad layout + the 4Lo, and there are "threats" from younger skaters who would just put their base value on steroids. I think he will train the 4Lz seriously at the off-season that is for sure, and 70% likely put it in a program. He could always remove it if it doesn't stabilize by the time of the olympics anyway.

I'd love to see a landed 4Lz at WTT. It'd be a great way to end the season and scare the rivals

And to be honest after this season and the quad craze, he probably feels like he at least has to try it, even if it doesn't end up in his Olympic layout

I read your post right after posting x) I completely agree

He should add 4lz and stablize it soon. Actually from the latest interview it seems that he will upgrade his layout next season.

He should really add it for WTT. It doesn't actually count towards anything in the scores and all, so he could land it just like Shoma did last year with his Quad Flip, plus if he does it, that means Team Japan will be landing all the Quads (apart from the legendary Quad Axel), if Shoma lands his Quad Flip (which he most likely will).

Just imagine the headlines in Japan, *Team Japan lands all the Quads in 2017 WTT! Will the Quad Axel be next?!*

What if he tries to do it in the gala:slink:

Also, probably incredibly late but as i work i downloaded videos of Yuzu's interviews to listen to them and omg, the Asaichi one is pure gold :laugh2:

:agree: Where is it that Kurt analyzed Shoma's technique? I think it is a big deal that he mentioned it.

He mentioned during Shoma's FP while the replays were showing I think, but he just mentioned, he didn't make a big critique on it. You can find it at the CBC site but you will need VPN, i'll try to find the link.

I admit I will be suprised if he does, especially since we didn't even see a clean 4Lz recorded till now, we had a rotated one I think though. Of course we have reports that he's landing it. But I would wait for the summer if he will mention it again in a definitive manner or drop a 4Lz at an ice shows just like he did with the 4Lo. He seemed much more enthusiastic with the 4Lo before implementing it than with the 4lz now.

When 3.2 rotation on air is called 4 rotations and get the same credit, it is a joke but I guess some people are just too biased to think it is wrong.

Of course it's wrong technique, but I just think it's funny how people get so heated with it, just like with edge issues. It doesn't make anything right though, It's just that people are very vocal about it, I understand it to some extent. I think that an important note is that every skater has a degree of pre rotation, including Yuzuru. It's when it is above the limit accepted that it becomes an issue. However, I've seen some Boyang 4Lzs that have almost zero pre rotation though :handw: Boyangman is jump royality when it comes to rotation.

He could always remove it if it doesn't stabilize by the time of the olympics anyway.

If he decides to include I don't think he will remove it at all. He just never removes anything, it's almost against his nature. But who knows.

Well probably Yuzuru is already a grandfather in skating at age 22. He needs one whole season to perfect the 4Lo.
Shoma the teenager at age 19 takes only quarter of a season.

It's because Yuzu insists on performing all jumps with difficult entries and exits. His requirement to add the 4Lo into his programs was the spread eagle sandwich. I don't think anyone else can do any quads with such difficulty.

Yes, there wasn't much need to change anything for Sochi, but now with youngsters doing multiple quads it is inevitable. I do think 4Lz is necesary.
The point now is he should add 4lz as soon as possible. But I am not sure it will be at WTT. It is also a political game there.
I don't expect it at WTT either, at least in competition. It doesn't make much sense really. But at gala practice or quad battle...maybe.

Do you have the videos of his Quad Lutz attempts? I know I've seen it before but can't remember where.

Also does anyone have the video of Hanyu landing the Quad Loop Triple Toe? I don't remember where I saw it, but I know I did for sure.

But don't forget the fact that a competition is so much different than training or a gala, even a quad battle, the feeling so different you can't really explain it in words, I would know as I have been in that position, and probable would for the coming years (if I am allowed to go and compete that is, tho I am not actually good enough for world level).

Here.

Hate to link TSL but it's the first google result so It'll do.

Agreed :laugh2:

But I am just saying there is always a choice that if he really never lands it he could always remove it :p

Anyway, to be honest 4lz and 4F is not really that special nowadays, anyway. Unlike last season. Everybody is doing it. Kolyada had one, Aliev had one, nam doing a 4F, Vincent is going to do both 4Lz and 4F. etc etc. I know Samohin can do it too. And all these guys are going to add it in their layout.

This is the reason why I think Yuzu won't do it in a gala/quad battle, because it is nothing unique? back then with the 4Lo people barely land them and he is the "only" one doing it in galas. We probably would see him doing something only he can do, like that 4-lo-4 or 3A3A3A to infinity

Of course it's wrong technique, but I just think it's funny how people get so heated with it, just like with edge issues.
Because some people get punished harshly on it but some do not get punished at all? People would mind less if Zhenia and Osmond get rightful calls for their flutz. The issue is they don't get called at all makes many people find it wrong and the judging is not trusthy.

 It doesn't make anything right though, It's just that people are very vocal about it, I understand it to some extent
We don't need the judges to change their placement. We need them to treat the technique correctly as it is. For example Zhenia and Osmond might not lose their medals if their flutz are called. But they should be called no matter what. Judges can always pump up Satoko's PCS to give her enough medals, but her TES should be punished. We DEMAND a clearance in the technique judging. That's all.

However, I've seen some Boyang 4Lzs that have almost zero pre rotation though :handw: Boyangman is jump royality when it comes to rotation.
With edge jumps, they're allowed to have pre-rotation to some degree. With toe jumps like Flip and Luzt, there should be none. How about I send you slow motion and see that Yuzuru and Boyang, and Patrick have the least and almost none pre-rotation in Toe Jumps? Heck, US men are the same. Jason Brown (with all the critic against his jumps) does not have pre-rotation in toe jumps as well. I am fed up with people saying "just over the limit a bit". IT IS NOT. When someone like Jason who is punished for his UR jumps still does not have pre-rotation, you should be fair to the rest.

If he decides to include I don't think he will remove it at all. He just never removes anything, it's almost against his nature. But who knows.
Yes, if he put something new in his program, he will not remove it. I think one reason why he did not do 4lz in LP yet is because he had that crazy 4S3T mental against him. He wants 4S3T in 2nd half and stabilize it no matter what. That means he might possibly do 2 high risk quads in the first half. One is 4lo, 2nd might be 4lz.

That's why he did a Quad-Quad combination at the end of Worlds gala this year.

What about 3A-3A in competition? Is it advantageous?

Who is responsible for that? :confused:I do not think Yuzuru is.

Well, in a sense, I do think he was somewhat responsible for it. He has plenty of pre-skating rituals and probably he miscalculated a bit how long it might take.

What about 3A-3A in competition? Is it advantageous?

Not at all. Maybe a bit in the 6.0 system it would get him high technical mark but in IJS it really carries no benefit.
