Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

If he decides not to keep LGC he will let Jeffrey Buttle basically decide the music (like he's done before), which he stated a couple pf weeks ago he was planning to do. Given Buttle's record with music for Yuzuru I'm optimistic it will not be cliché :)

Japanese music is not a problem. But the repetition could be a problem. Some people could tell again that he's "not enough versatile".

Well, japanese music can come in as many different styles and beats as western music so... ?
There's not much in common between H&L and Seimei, and I haven't seen anybody say he did the same this season as last season. So I really don't think it would be an issue.

The "political" reason with Corea might be more troublesome though, sadly... But idk ? He's well loved in Corea and there was no problems in 4CC.

I would love for him to keep LGC (though I agree with costume change) but if he doesn't I hope he has a program which is fun and rocky, different from all the more classical or serious programs. I feel like he really pulls those off well and it shows a different side of FS for casual viewers during the Olympics.

Japanese music would be a bad idea in Korea and this year the judges didn't seem to like H&L that much either but whatever he chooses I'm happy with it as long as it's not warhorse (I also HATE Carmina with a passion)

He won't use Japanese music simply because the Olympics will be held in Korea.

I think it's fine as long as Yuzu not wear a costume with rising sun flag pattern on it, as far as I know korean comentator likes or even adore Seimei so much, so Japanese music is not a problem.

and Yuzu is smart tho, he knew how JPN-Kor relathionship in general, thats why he tried to greet the local people with Hangul at 4CC last time to win the public heart. (well he always did it for every country he competing tho :p )

it can be worse post Olympic tbh, if Javi decide to retire after PC and Yuzu choose to stay for more a couple of season, make him and Jun to be Orser main pupils in the men field, and If one of JSF or Korean Federation find Orser prefer the one over the other sure it'll turn not so well in the end

Even if he has fans in Korea, the general public will be paying more attention to the olympics than they did 4cc and H&L was a lot more subtle than seimei in it's japaneseness, but if he did something that is quite obviously Japanese it would not go down well. Anything celebrating Japan will leave a bitter taste in Korean people's mouths. Especially if he won...
Also Hangul is the Korean writing system not the Korean language...

I'm not sure if Yuzuru will do 4Lz in SP. That seems like such a big risk and the plan for this season seems to have been to master the 4Lo so he could feel secure with it. He might have a good percentage on 4Lz but he haven't done it in competition.

However... Am I wrong to say that Yuzuru is someone who prefers outside-edge jumps over all else? Think I read it somewhere. I think they are his most consistent jumps: 3A and 3L (before 4Lo, which now is quite consistent). After that the outside-toe jumps are 4T and 3Lz (very consistent, he makes mistakes on the 3Lz because he puts it last and he's tired) and then that would make the inside-edge Salchow and the inside-toe Flip his least favorite jumps (since he does still love the Salchow ). So perhaps 4Lz would be "easier" for him to master then the 4S was, also thanks to the fact that doing one quad helps learning other quads? Of course though 4Lz technique is supposed to be very difficult. Couldn't it be that the reason 4S-combo became such a problem was partly because it is not one of his most comfortable kind of jumps? Though his 4S single jumps have been great. I'm probably reading too much into it  I'm pretty sure it was mainly mental, remember reading that the he found it difficult when doing the 4T-combo in the second-half in the beginning as well, so is probably more related to that kind of mental block

Also since we are talking jump layouts again. I had been wondering if 3A3Lo could ever be a possibility for Yuzuru and I found on twitter another skater doing it who posted it on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BSgJGV1FhF9/ if anyone wants to take a look. It looks pretty good to me actually. 3A3Lo together with a 4x-Lo-3S could bring in a lot of points (risky though)

It's too bad that my first language is french. I can't express myself very well. What i wanted to say is that even if seimei and H&L are not exactly in the same style, it's first of all japanese music. It's like spanish music for example. So if he use it again it would be like he's shout up in a kind of music. 2 times is acceptable, but three......
More, i don't know if it's true, but i have the feeling that japanese music is not very popular.

Nah, he won't do CB.

Regarding today, I thought his shorter hair looked good and his suit fit him nicely. It was a brown this time, right? Nice change from black. And the monuments weren't statues, thank goodness, which can so often go very, very, wrong.

At this point I really just trust Yuzu and his team on music choice. Last two programs for both short and free were good. And I believe whatever he will choose he will grow well into it. And the Yuzu that considered Carmina is not the current Yuzu anymore, these past two seasons will have taught him alot, so I don't worry much about music choice. I am all anticipation if anything.

As for the Korea-Japan discussion... From the Korean people I personally know, ones that are vocal about their dislike of (current and past) Japanese politics, don't seem to reflect that on Yuzu. But the only ones I talked to about Yuzu were FS fans (from the Yuna era) so they might not reflect the general public.
I personally think the olympics being in Korea shouldn't matter in music choice but maybe I'm just being naive. Idk.

Doctors have just decided that I will take surgery tomorrow. I will dream well for him.
I am not sure I will recover enough for WTT though.
But I wish him a great competition.

Ganbatte! My best wishes, and I hope you get well soon.

Can I just say THANK GOD they didn't go with statues because I was seriously dreading this event because I was so afraid of statues  and after seeing those, ehm, "special" TV dolls, I think I was double afraid.

All the wishes for you to get well soon. Waiting for having enthusiastic talks with you here soon after WTT !

Japanese composers are very versatile, more than probably you imagine. I don't think it would sound repetitious so much even if Yuzuru uses Japanese composer's music.

Actually, which do you call more Japanese?

Political reasons? I don't know. TBH, such thing should not be there in Olympic games.

EDIT: I added one more by Kenji Kawai.

You are right, politics should not be in the Olympics... sadly, however, it is probably the MOST political thing in the world.
