I thought he said he would never drop any of his 3As? I'd like it if he tried the 5quad layout at WTT, as long as he lands 4S3T

Oh I am sure Max has the correct information, Miki after all also said she'd seen it. But we have no idea what that means, everything else but rotated and landed is pure speculation. It could have been just the once, or maybe twice, which simply gives him the knowledge that yes, he can do it.
I just don't get the feeling that he has been steadily working on it, he seems to be working on the 4Lz from all we know.
The 4Lz is actually already pretty intimidating on its own if you ask me. If he can land that baby in practice (or gala), he is showing that the highest value quad after the 4A is ready for use.
Frankly, when it comes to the 4A, I would let them wonder. That has power of its own.

He planned to do 4T-1lo-3S in place of 2nd 3A combo. I think this may be the most realistic plan for next season, to have 5th quad as replacement just in case

I think there will be 5 quads from the start, not as back up. I am afraid he will probably have to, there's no way Shoma won't show up with a 5 quad FS (and Nathan is of course already there) and I expect by next season Boyang will up it to 5 too.
And then replace the 3Lz with a 3A? That'd make sense I guess.
But I don't remember reading anything about a specific layout- just that he was planning on doing 5 quads. Have I missed an interview?
Plus 4CC gave him all the confidence he needed.

No. He would have done 4Lo, 4S, 3F // 4S-3T, 4T, 3A-2T, 4T-Lo-3S, 3Lz
I imagine since he figured the situation post-SP was difficult, dropping the 3A was all right if it would gain him around 2 points.

I think he meant he was going to replace a 3A-1Lo-3S with a 4T-1Lo-3S, but I didn't think that was necessary at all. His YOLO 4T wouldn't have gotten as much GOE as his 3A, I think.

I mean, he would. I don't think he has much of a sense of limits. And it would one up everybody front loading them.
I'm happy for him to keep up with the field, to lead the field. However, I see some truth in what Patrick Chan says, that the program loses out. Ah well. I will follow his passions. I never cared too much about technical content before I became a Yuzu fan. I would tend to like PCS skaters. He has definitely made me appreciate and understand the technical side better. (I would still rather watch Jason Brown than Nathan Chen.)
