Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I don't know if his unfortunate comment was intentional, I want to believe it wasn't . But Shoma is very ambitious, I had no doubt about this since last season.

ETA All this rivalry thing makes me very sad, because I have nothing against Shoma. Seeing both of them live interacting at GPF was a real pleasure.

The good thing is Yuzu had a kind soul. He doesn't let the 'drama' affects him. He's so polite, humble and respect other skaters. Sportsmanship at its finest.

I don't think he meant anything more than what he said *shrugs* but I've been called naive before for thinking that not everybody in this world is malicious and devious, so what do I know.

Urgh ... this ridiculous "DRAMA!!!" and "RIVALRY!!!" is such a stain on the beauty that is figure skating...

Count me naive too because things like this never even crossed my mind but after reading the comments made in this thread, I think there's probably too much money/power/etc. at stake for the parties involved (JSF, sponsors, media, etc.) for figure skating to remain pure of these darker sides...

*SIGH*

I mean I'm not so naive to think there's nothing negative about sport (doping and all sorts of nasty things comes to mind), but I didn't realize that there would be so many power struggles and money issues with it too. Guess we all learn something new every day...

It is very difficult but not too difficult for him. Today it could have been his best LGC perfomance, but it didn't happen just because it was the wrong day. He almost get it at GPF, I don't care much about the 4lo landing.

It is just my wishful thinking but I want something like Etude for next season SP. Dramatic and romantic, it suits him so well.

Agree! Such a delicate and refined classical piece makes his splended musicality, light and fine skating skils, airly jumps stand out more and more. What's more, we can expect elegant costume, which makes his long legs and arms look better.

OMG THIS EVERYTHING!!! :agree:

This is why I love Yuzu so much! Not only is he talented and hard working, he is so respectful and humble and polite! He is a true champion! He's gracious when he wins, and also gracious even if he doesn't win! THIS is what true sportsmanship is about!

Sometimes it's a really pain to read this thread :disapp:

...is it because people post very quickly and many pages are updated quickly?

...or is it because of something else...?

I agree! (I'm still in awe of how absolutely BEAUTIFUL Notte Stellata and Hope & Legacy are. They are PERFECT for Yuzu and his costumes are just PERFECT )

Same. I just can't see Shoma the way he appears on the outside since a while. I feel like he actually enjoys the " unnecessary drama". Then again, we never know. :/

This my opinion, so sorry for Shoma fans.. He's too obsessed with yuzu only isn't a good thing IMO. He needs to know that his rival isn't yuzu only. Someday, new strong youngsters with quads may come. In the other hand, yuzu is the smartest. He always thinking so far about the new quad, the new rivalry but he never forget the present. He's aware about everything.

OK this is kind of late but ...

When I first saw his face during the 6min warmup I was like?? He looks so intense... And then I didn't know whether that was a good or bad thing. Because it could mean superb-amazing-ON-[insert more superlatives!!]helsinki-worlds-performance!!!!! or....:slink: So I was wondering when he would start to switch on his "Prince" mode.

And uhhh :sad21:

I just wish he could have performed this last [for this season at least] LGC with a smile on his face? Like in GPF where he had that slight error on the quad loop landing but then he was smiling and kind of going "ahaha that was close!". Or in Parisienne Walkways where he smirks a lot and executes everything with that spark and you can visibly seeing him enjoy his performance.

But that's a thing of the past. I can hope that whatever performance he puts out there tomorrow will be one without regrets. I want him to wrap up this season with a sense of fulfillment, completion and less kuyashii. (is kuyashii a noun or a verb?) :ghug::ghug::ghug::ghug:

In the end, whatever he does, he's amazing :luv17:

I stopped believing the innocent little lamb act a while ago. But we'll agree to disagree :agree2:

I think it's just the engrained cultural habit to be humble... This situation is kind of like when you bomb a test and then you see someone else who got much higher wishing they did better? Like they mean it in context of themselves, and although it can be really jarring towards people who didn't do well, it's not meant to be a snide remark...

I find it rude and disrespectful when users start to speculate negative things about other skaters, it's really annoying tbh. I'm not saying you can't speculate but here? In a fanfest? In a thread that it's supposed to be focused on the skater. I just don't like how negative things can get here.
seriously, can't we just keep this thread away from negative comments about other skaters? Is it that hard? :rolleye:

Shoma may respect Yuzu, but Yuzu occupies the spots he wants for himself and he has never said otherwise. He doesn't train everyday to come in anywhere but first, same as Yuzu. If there was tension and a lack of respect between the two, we'd know it in their body language. So I don't really see what trying to paint him as a bad guy is going to achieve here.

I personally don't want to paint Shoma as a bad guy. He clearly wants to be Japan's Number One. He did lots of competitions this season to get mileage for his jumps, he got 4lo quickly. He is ambitious and this is not bad, it is kind of necesary for any sport. I just want fair treatment for both Shoma and Yuzuru from JSF and Japanese media.

Yes please. Let's be smarter than the media and respect Yuzu's respect for his rivals please :)

I'd really rather believe he didn't mean it and it just slipped. I'm not a fan, so I haven't watched many interviews with him, but in the few I've seen he always says humble things like this... well, who knows. Even if he meant it, he'd be neither the first, nor the last to be mean towards Yuzu.

He's been saying he didn't want to bring the team down since the introduction of the team. Highly doubtful he meant it in a mean way, he seems really friendly with Yuzu to say this as a mean thing towards him. Besides, this event is a team thing and they've all been emphazising this.

So sorry to post something unnecessary and unhealthy.. :palmf: let's forget everything.. And focused on yuzu and tomorrow fs.. :agree2:

You can tone police other fans all you want, but if I had to endure that kind of relentless media manipulation by someone else's team on my favourite skater I don't see why I'm not allowed have a few snide comments here and there.

Sorry but for me that doesn't justifies getting all "conspirancy here and there" and comment disrespectful things about other skaters.

Aww don't worry you didn't mean anything bad by it...
I think everyone was just emotional after the WTT event...
But yes, best wishes to Yuzu and all the athletes for the FS tomorrow!
Let's hope everyone can finish their season with no regrets and then have a nice relaxing break
So that they come back for next season at their best :)
(And it's the Olympics so let's hope everyone is ready...)

Now I feel bad for mentioning the Shoma thing... I thought it was just bad timing on his part and hoped to, in fact, dispel possible wrong interpretations of his words, but maybe it would have actually gone unnoticed... :shock2: :( Sorry!

For tomorrow fs, I think it's good to experiment the new quad  I mean, if he had enough energy he can try 5 quad.. Ermm not bad.. I think :dev3:

Well, I think is time for everybody to take a deep breath and remember that we are here to cheer on Yuzu, please , don't fight is so unpleasant! :noshake:
